We need volunteers at the American Royal Barbecue

Howdy folks,

This is an open invitation to all the Roadfooders who happen to live in Kansas City, or those out of towners who are planning to visit KC during The American Royal Barbecue, October 6th & 7th. The invitation is this:

How would you like to work at the The American Royal Barbecue Sauce Store? What's in it for you, you may ask, besides a warm feeling, knowing that you've helped raise several thousand dollars for numerous local, worthy charities?

1. Free admission to the Royal. Anyone who confirms early enough (in the next week or so) will get a volunteer wristband entitling them to free admission (normally $8 per day, or is it up to $10 now?).

2. By working behind the scenes at the Sauce Store, you'll get first crack at all those amazing Barbecue Sauces donated by manufacturers from all over the country.

3. Access to actual Championship 'Que for lunch! We've got to feed you, and the best way to do that is with the food that is already being prepared by hundreds of talented Pit Masters. Think about it, these guys are preparing whole briskets and pork shoulders for judging. Only a very small portion of the total cut of meat is going into the presentation. What happens to the rest of it? Why, it's served up to the volunteers at the volunteer tent. This is World Class 'Que that the general public never gets to taste.

4. You get to hang out with some of the nicest people you will ever hope to meet in an electric atmosphere of Barbecue Enthusiasm. Maybe even go out to dinner at the end of the day Saturday and stayin' up all night drinkin' and laughin' and playin' Spades.

The Barbecue Sauce Store will be open from 11am to 11pm on Friday October 6th, and from 10am to 4pm on Saturday October 7th. For those interested, please respond here on this thread and I will send you a personal email with further details.
