Alright, Im spending this week in Tyler TX working & Im not finding any suggestions on places to eat. Im working halfway between Lindale & Tyler & staying in Tyler. Being in TX Im looking for some suggestions on good Beef & Steaks (being from Memphis, its hard for me to call beef BBQ but I'll still eat it!) Plus anything else worth eating while Im here. 7 nights & Im hoping I wont have to venture into a fast food place or a chain any of them but I just cant find any suggestions on the forums! Hopefully someones got something to steer me towards. Theres one thing I hate (not quite as bad as chains) is going into what I think is a local joint & getting served mediocre "chain" food or just all around bad food!

From Tyler head out Hwy 31 toward Kilgore. On the left just after you enter Gregg County will be Country Tavern on the left. Voted best ribs in Texas a few years back. Haven't been there much since they took the dance floor away in favor of more tables. However just driving by they still seem to attract a lot of traffic.

It has been several years since I've been to Tyler, but one thing that surprised me was the great seafood. I didn't realize that since Tyler is in the eastern part of Texas that fresh Gulf seafood would be available. I first time to for raw oysters- I loved them immediately. Also, great Mexican food, my first freshly made sopaipillas. The sopaipillas were still hot from the deep fryer ,light & crispy. My Tyler friends showed met how to make a small hole & drizzle honey on the inside, yummy.

My wife and I had lunch last March in Tyler while enroute to San Antonio. We ate at a place called Fat Catz Louisiana Kitchen. We enjoyed it. While not really a roadfood place, you might like it. For more information: http://www.fatcatzkitchen.com/index.html Have a great day. Mike
