Weight of Step Van? Tue, 03/26/13 8:20 AM (permalink)
I bought a step van and need it shipped to Houston.  I need to enter the weight of the step van to get an accurate estimate.  Any body have an idea of how much this thing ways?  It is an 1988 International Diesel with a Utilimaster aluminum body.  18' and empty on the inside.

Thanks

Look at the vehicle tag at the door post (?).   It will give the max. gross wt and I think the empty wt or max. load.  Info varies per each manufacture, but max. gross road weight must be stated.

You can also verify the max. wt  by the number of axles, tires, and tire size.   The link to those max. legal road weights is posted in another tread. Use the search to find.

        Have the seller weigh it.

Just have him take it to a city dump where you weigh in and weigh out.

We settled at between 10000-12000 lbs.  I have a guy that will transport it to Houston for $800.  The trip is 527 miles.  There is a company down there that will build it for me, I just do not have the time.  On a side note, when I log in to this forum.  It changes from the way it normally looks (orange) to blue and different.  Its not set up as well.  Does this happen to any one else?
