Weinerschnitzel

I was in Pomona and Ontario, California recently for the NHRA races. While there, my brother and I had a sudden urge for some hotdogs. I know that there are a plethora of opportunities available but the Weinerschnitzel was handy and had an attractive building. We bought several of their small dogs whith their chili sauce. They were OK at the time cause we had a alcohol induced hunger. I am not sure how they would be otherwise. It seemed like they were everywhere and when I returned home, I researched them somewhat and I found that they are the largest hot dog chain available in the USA. Since I had a alcohol induced hunger, my curiosity begged me to inquire the thoughts of others on this forum. I am sure that most hot dog experts will give them a low mark but I guess there is something to being available almost on every block or something like that. As I have no bias, I would appreciate any thoughts. http://www.wienerschnitzel.com/ Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

That's odd. Weinerschnitzel is a breaded veal cutlet dish.

Perhaps odd but that is the name of their establishment. I have no idea how they came up with their name. Their specialty is hot dogs as you can see. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Used to be Der Weinerschnitzel. I have had excellent sausage (Italian, hotlink, polish, etc.), but let's face it: A hot dog is a freakin' hot dog. Weinerschnitzel is fine if you wank junk food. I think they're fries must be still fried in beef tallow, because they are rather good. On route 66 from Monrovia/Azusa on you can find one on every other corner.

"I was in Pomona and Ontario, California recently for the NHRA races..." The original Der Wienerschnitzel chain was one of the first non-automotive sponsors in drag racing, putting their name on the side of Jim Nicoll's fuel dragster in the late '60's.

BillC: Great knowledge you have. I did not know that. We have only been running NHRA for the last ten years and we run super comp and super gas. His league was way beyond my means. Our engine last an entire season and theirs last one run down the track. We run 8.5 seconds in a quarter and top fuels run 4.5 seconds. Their repair cost more in one run than ours do in a entire season. We did Weinerschnitel's because of a alcohol induced hunger if you know what I mean. At the time, I think they were pretty good but the next morning left my memory a blank. They were nice when we stopped and they seemed to be everywhere. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

"Weiner Dude" was the Ad Campaign with several "Carrot-Top" characters doing stupid things in the commercials. The chili-cheese fries were one of the things I did enjoy though. And you are correct I think the Wiener Dude's stands outnumbered the Golden Arches 3 to 1 .

I used to love them as a teen, then the local one went out of business. A few years back I went to one in Las Vegas. It wasn't as good as I remembered, but it was decent, good for Fast Food! I love that greasy meaty glop they call chili. Put that on a hot dog with mustard and onions, and I'd eat one right now!! Love that stuff on hamburgers too! And I know under the influence, they would be real good, real real good!

They have great coupon specials every week, and I'll occasionally stick my snout in their Fontana trough if funds are running low. Like if I've just been to the gas station for instance.
