Welcome back Canadian beef!!!

I saw that the first load, post ban, has been delivered. The Canadians got a raw deal when protectionism got mixed up with mad cow. Beef will be cheaper in the USA, Canadian farmers will get to make a living, and USA packing plants near the border will not have to close. Now if we could only fix the sugar problem.......

The US government needs to wake up and smell the prions. The problem was not Canadian beef. It was that we have an ineffective inspection/testing program for all beef and we have feeding laws that aren't enforced (ruminant parts aren't supposed to be in foods fed to other ruminants but who monitors it? Who enforces it? Nobody, that's who). In many other countries, every cow is tested for Mad Cow before its meat is allowed into the food chain and we should be doing that too. But the beef industry would have to pay for it and they won't. They'd rather pay by having periodic bans slapped on US beef exports by other countries and eventually, after there are more mad cow cases, which I confidently predict there will be, by having American consumers begin to reject beef the way European consumers did. Me? I think I'm too old to worry about it. Jacob-Creuzfeldt Disease has a substantial incubation period. I figure something else will get me before it does even if I should eat tainted beef. But the younger folks really should get angry about the governments "cow"-towing to the beef industry and its refusal to protect consumers.

Tmiles- I love the "Raw Deal" line. Another classic play on words! Keep 'em coming!
