I agree completely. I found that it wasn't really that spicy at all

Spicy is such a relative term. In New England it means they actually use black pepper but in a Chinese restaurant it can mean true pain for a round eye.

True dar,V960,although I think I'm a moderate on the issue - then there's degrees of spiciness...

I haven't had the 4 Alarm yet, those ingredients Pigiron posted didn't look too appetizing. I've seen the ads but have heard that they're not all that spicy in any event.

V960, us New Englanders (at least in the populated sections) have made great strides in the past 25 years, but that was absolutely true when I was growing up. Italian spaghetti sauce was considered "hot and spicy." (Nowadays the salsa trucks are busting through the frontier on a daily basis and dens of Szechaun cooking operate openly without police interference.)

New England's not the only part of the country where spice is a new and often mistrusted concept and for that reason, alone, I can't imagine a national chain rolling out anything that is anywhere near "4 Alarm."

Besides, with all those other ingredients, where'd they find the room for any flavor?

Yeah, I'm probably weird, and someone out there will probably cut me down, but I just cannot understand why folks patronize "fast food" joints.

The “stuff” they put in those sandwiches, burgers, fries, etc. is unbelievable (to me). Then all the stories that I read about sanitation issues, rodents, insects, and workers with attitudes (probably can’t blame the under-paid, over-worked workers for that, though) . . . I just cannot go into ANY of the “fast food” places.

It’s been at least 20 years since I have been into a “burger joint” . . . with one exception. And that is Red Robin, which is more of a professional “restaurant” to me. Of course, that’s just my opinion, and RR may not be any better than Wendy’s, but I feel that it is.

Ronald MacDonald and Little Wendy probably aren't losing any sleep over my absence, though.

I think Wendy's sandwich creator is capsacian intolerant, I wouldn't even rate it a 2 alarm sammie.

I had some errands to take care of at lunch time yesterday, with very little time for lunch, so I stopped in at Wendy's for the first time in years. After seeing the commercials, I did try the 4 Alarm Chicken sandwich and it just wasn't that hot or good. And I admittedly don't have a high tolerance for spicy food. 1 Alarm sounds just about right.

I gave it a try just so I could laugh at the commercials, I don't know how they do it but even the jalapenos IMO where bland but then Ive been accused of having an asbestos tongue

I tried this today, not very good, very messy and not spicy at all.

                                Hello All,
                                I tried it tonight.
                                I liked the bread.
The cheese, why did they bother?
At first, I didn't think it was hot, but it
seemed to get hotter as I ate it. But it was
not a 4-alarm hot and not a good tasty hot.
I don't eat hot, spicy food just for the heat,
but for how it blends and compliments the dish
it is on. The sauce and jalepeno peppers did
nothing for or with the chicken.
Their hot and spicey chicken sandwich is much better
                                than this in my opinion.
Still, I'm glad they are trying something new, but
at $3.99, I won't be ordering it again.
                                Take Care,
                                Fieldthistle

Thank you Pigiron, for that long list of "ingredients". Very helpful.

I did try one of these creations today. It was not awful, but it was not spicy either ...at all. Four Alarm should mean something. I think if Dave were still alive he would take Wendy right out to the woodshed for an attitude adjustment regarding telling lies to her valued customers. Perhaps a better remedy would be Wendy's valued customers taking her to the courthouse for her obvious fraud.

Having said that I did somewhat enjoy the sandwich. The "artisan bread" was not bad at all, the single lettuce leaf was only half wilted, tomato was OK, the sauce was insipid and unnecessary and the cheese slice detracted. I counted four small jalapeno peppers that had no character whatsoever. I imagine the four pepper slices account for the four alarm brag.

The chicken was quite good...hot crispy and a rather generous portion for a fast food place. It was the redeeming grace of the sandwich. Overall, I would give the sandwich a medium high rating...good bread, good chicken, just get rid of the sauce, cheese and the fraudulent name. A three year old could eat this with no complaint!

I also had fries with this. They were lightly salted which was a pleasant surprise. They were also hot, but were devoid of the outer crunch and the comforting interior texture associated with an excellent french fry. About standard for fast food fries, I guess.

Cost for this experiment was $6.00 and change without beverage.
