Wendy's 99-cent Sandwiches
Fri, 01/16/09 9:02 PM
( permalink)
The wendy's closest to me has a sign out front that says "Try Our Three New Great Sandwiches for 99 Cents" So I pulled into the drive-through lane and placed my order. I said I wanted the three new sandwiches for 99-cents, and the person manning the order thingee asked which one. I said I want the three that cost just 99 cents. She said they're 99 cents each, and I said that wasn't what they were advertising. I pointed out that their sign said they were offering three sandwiches for 99 cents and that was what I wanted. A person identifying himself as the manager came on and said that I misread the sign. I pointed out that I was quite capable of reading their sign and if they didn't give me the three "New Great Sandwiches"at that 99-cent price I'd file a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General's office. I got the sandwiches. They were lousy. They're not going to get my business in the future.

At least you got what you ordered. Out of the last 3x I've been to Wendys, I have each and every single time gotten the wrong sandwich. Charged for the right one, received the wrong one. That is the single greatest reason why I stopped going to fast food places in northern VA, most of the workers do not speak good enough English to get your order right......and I get tired of having to go up, speak to the manager and get what I ordered, lol.

Hello All, That is a cute little ditty. We should send Mr. Hoffman to Washington where he can torment the truth out of the lobbyist who write the laws for our congress. Take Care, Fieldthistle

Actually, I did not get what I ordered. I said no pickcles, but they were there anyway. That was the first time I'd been to a Wendy's in more than 20 years. I stopped because I could never get what I ordered. I have a neighbor who is a longtime Wendy's employee, and he never goes there, either, and for the same reason. EDIT: I should have said my neighbor who works for Wendy's never uses the drive-throughs at Wendy's because he can't get what he orders. He's a loyal Wendy's customer, but goes inside to order and eat.

The 99-cent sandwiches look great on the Wendy's web site. I don't plan to try them, though. The other month I was cutting through the Wendy's parking lot, hadn't eaten in about twenty hours, and decided to swerve into the empty drive-through lane. I ordered a regular hamburger and a diet cola. I got what I ordered, but it was extremely well-done (overcooked) and dry, dry, dry. It had been about twenty years since I had eaten a Wendy's hamburger, and I remember that they used to boast that they had the juiciest hamburgers around (which Consumer Reports said was because they were the fattiest). I guess that they have switched to the chain fast-food technique of cooking in advance, holding in a heated drawer, and nuking to order.

I have been tempted, as my local McDonalds has completely done away with the dollar menu dble cheeseburger-not even a single piece of cheese-just doesnt have it at all. But based on the comments here, wont be going to Wendys, either. I never eat there anyway....

Having eaten at Wendy's many times, the sandwiches are 99cents each sandwich, and they have three new ones at that price. I don't eat at McDonald's only Wendy and Jack In The Box. Boy i must luck out.The places by me are pretty decent food wise, and everyone here at the drive through speaks english., but seriously, the sign was misleading, because it does make it sound as if you got three sandwiches for that price.

Way to go, Michael! The big fast-food chains have been sticking it to us consumers for decades. It's about time one of them got a taste of their own medicine. Power to the people!!

Ha ha! But, you might have wound up with some "extra unwanted" ingredients on those sandwiches because of that! I've read the forum over at the Bitterwaitress website and some of the stories about what some of them do to the food if you anger them (not just Wendy's, all restaurants).......well, they shall not be repeated here. Andrea

I went to Wendy's last night. Since when does NO lettuce mean ONLY lettuce? Also they were out of baked potatoes.

I wouldnt have been brave enough to eat those sandwiches if I complained long enough to get them all for 99 cents. I'm sure some extras came with them.

Just now reading this thread, but I applaud you, Michael, for calling their attention to their misleading advertising. I wish I had been keeping a scrapbook over the years of signs that are either misleading, spelled incorrectly, or stupid. I could probably get some books published! :)
