Wendy's used to have a hot chili oil - essentially hot oil with lots of cumin. It was pretty good in the Chili and on the burgers. Has anyone seen this recently? It's been at least 15 years since I have.

Wendy's chili, give me a break. I submit there is no fast food chain that can make a proper chili. I love chili but would never order it from a fast food place. True chili is not a simple dish and requires talent and experience from those attempting to make it. In my experience pimply faced kids do not know how to cook anything let alone chili. Enough of the editorial, however. The question at hand is what one does when served watery "chili" at Wendy's. The solution: 1. Use the drive through window. 2. Be sure to order a beverage with a straw. 3. Open the "chili," if it is watery open the straw. 4. Fill the straw with the watery "chili." 5. Purse you lips, take careful aim and blow. 6. Hit the gas and get out of there before they can get your plate number. Another fast food problem solved.

There is a pan of water (about 1/3 full) at the back of the grill. When a burger breaks, or no one buys it, or it gets burnt, it gets thrown in there & chopped up. When it's full, it goes into the Walk-In cooler & when they are ready to make chili, they use it. I've said it before, I will say it again, my dog could make Wendy's chili: Meat cans of beans cans of sauce spice packet 2 bags frozen green pepper/onion/celery mix It goes on the drive thru window's grill, at the back, stirred often. And yes, the leftover chili is scooped onto the Taco Salads. But if you've never had a Wendy's Taco Salad, you're really missing out. They are quite good. They still have the chili oil, you have to ask for it. It's really good on their baked potatoes & also on their spicy chicken sandwiches.

Your "recipe" for Wendy's chili as made in the store is overly simplified and not quite correct.

Hello All, The Ajudicator KNOWS. Wendy's chili is not as simple as it tastes, although it's tastes seems simple, but good. The fact that it tastes good and simple is it's secret. (I have had one to many, sorry) It is soo good, but as with anything good, it's is not simple. I once tried to recreate the chili by thinking I could use Campbells tomato soup. Wrong!!! Keep trying as do I, but ultimately, when at work and I want a good chili quickly, I go to Wendy's for their chili and a side order of fries, which tastes great together. Take Care, Fieldthistle

Wendy's Chili is our favorite. I don't like celery, but I think its the celery in the recipe that makes it. Also, sometimes I brown 1lb pork and 1lb ground round instead of 2 lbs ground round. The recipe on the internet which I use does not include any additional herbs or garlic but it cooks for a long time. We love it.

I have lost my original scanned images of the chili prep., et.al. from my Wendy's OP. Manual. Looks like I will have to re-scan & post same here.

I just tried a spoonful of the Wendy's chili the other day when my friend was eating it in front of me. Overall, I have to say I was impressed given that it comes from Wendy's. (I consider that to be at the bottom of my hamburger fast food chains, right under Jack in the Box) I would never buy it cuz I can only eat the beanless chili but it wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't too watery. Pretty good stuff for something that comes off the cheapo part of their menu. Annabel Lee

I used to work for Wendy's. This is how the chili is made; take all the burger patties that did not sell during rushes or by closing, drain off grease, put in bag, date it and put it in the cooler. Next morning look for oldest bag, take to stove in back, open bag, rinse meat in hot water, put meat in large pot of water, boil till it becomes granules, drain and cool, add a can of premade chili sauce from the warehouse, add to to chili already in front and serve, Repeat next day and never empty chili pot in front. Instant death.
