Wendy's new "Dave's Hot'N Juicy" Burgers

Another attempt to update a signature menu item. I had one today and found little difference from the old ones. Don't waste your money (if you saw the publicity that went out over the Associated Press wire today) by buying this burger just to try it out. My bun was not toasted. There must be a mini-revolt by some franchisees over this "New Coke". A lawsuit has been filed against franchisees not buying the new toasters:

I stopped at Wendy's last Saturday and had a single. Honestly don't know if it was the "new" style or not. Tasted the same to me.

Wendy's has been bad for years. A double with cheese meal costs the same as a Fire Mountain or Chinese lunch buffet. No wonder they're in the tank. Taking 1/4lb of beef, and just changing the dimensions to make it appear bigger doesn't make it better. And why do they need bun toasters? Just hire a kid to throw the bun on the grill and tell him to not burn them.

Someone posted a video on Youtube taken inside a Wendy's yesterday who was trying to get the new "Dave's Hot'N Juicy" burger. This person apparently saw the Associated Press article. I saw earlier reports that they were only supposed to roll out this burger nationwide in October. Did Wendy's new bossman Nelson Peltz tell Wendy's management to walk the plank if they didn't raise revenues/profits right away?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnYZX8tkcpI

ADDENDUM: I should summarize the video for you. The video shows an order taker telling the person who shot this video that the new toasters will arrive in October, 2011. The order taker was not aware that publicity from September 19th or so was claiming the new cheeseburgers with toasted buns were in all stores already.

I frequent another food website that gave this burger a less than stellar review. I was looking forward to a thick Wendy's burger. I remember gettting a burger from Wendys and you could see the juice or grease soaking the paper it was wrapped in. All about qaulity control I guess.

I had the "new" burger today for lunch...I don't know why I keep falling for this marketing crap....it sucked.

The "buttered" and "toasted" bun tasted of chemicals.....no way that was butter...the only good thing I can say is that the burger was hot, other then that it sucked.

I'm still trying to figure out why the burger is square and the bun is round. Did you ever see God make a square pickle or tomato, That should have been a hint to the natural order of things..............

Dave Thomas has to be rolling in his grave. I guess I don't understand this "keeping up with the times" thing as far as particular foods are concerned... if you do something well, why on earth would you want to change it? They're losing money and customers because they started cutting corners and changed the food, not because they didn't keep up with the times. They already lost me as a customer when they came out with those god-awful fries last year.

I guess I'm the only one among the online foodie crowd who still enthusiastically endorses Wendy's burgers (not to mention their chicken sandwiches).  As far as the chain fast food places in my neck o' the woods with a drive through window are concerned (in other words, throw Five Guys and Smashburger out the window, and there are, dang it, no In 'N' Out Burgers 'round these parts), Wendy's stands head and shoulders above the rest.  (Well, okay, along with White Castle, which is, of course, a unique creation all its own, they stand head and shoulders above their more or less equivalent competition.)  Burger King?  They're not too bad for what they are, but I could certainly do without the chemically enhanced "chargrilled" flavor; and they pale in comparison to a double or triple Baconator.  Rally's?  Meh.  Totally characterless utility burger.  McDonald's?  Puh-leeze.  But Wendy's, for what they are, are pretty well totally awesome, and awesomely delectable (again, think: Double or Triple Baconator).

And it turns out that no less a culinary heavyweight than David Burke agrees with me:  http://www.esquire.com/th...-food-restaurants-0909

OK I tried one the other day.  Had a double "baconator" w/cheese add everything.  I liked it.  It was def. "hot & juicy" but that supposedly is what Wendy's is/was all about.  Oh yeah & BTW, this was 1st Wendy's burger that I had since ummmmm, 2007ish or so.

when Wendys first started the burgers were ALWAYS square.
they asked if you wanted a single, double ,or triple.the topping choices were; ketchup, mustard, pickles, mayo, tomato,&lettuce

The last really good Wendy's burger I ate was from the store on the corner of Riverside Drive and Dublin/Granville Rd across the street from Wendy's hq in Dublin, OH in 1999. If they were all still like that, I'd still be a fan.

I once asked Dave Thomas why he was sort of imitating White Castle. He said square burgers were decided upon for two reasons: better utilization of the flattop (which is why White Castle went to square patties) and, more important, because a square patty and a round bun means every bite includes meat.

My first was from the original store on West Broad, downtown in 1971. My second was from a Wendy's on Sullivant Avenue on the West Side, also in 1971. My last was about 20 years ago.

I hit a lot of them in and around Columbus... I worked right in Dublin (lived way out in Richwood), and had to drive all over the city for part of my job at the time. There were/are so many Wendy's in the area it was convenient, and consistently good.

I saw today that Wendy's is going to resurrect the "where's the beef" ad campaign.  Gee, can we smell the sweat dripping off those desparate decision-maker's at Wendy's?  And into their burgers?

Really? Ummm, just make a round beef patty the same size as the bun, and guess what? Beef in every bite! What a concept!

Well, the comments have been pretty much as I expected.  For me, the only way to assess the goodness (or lack of) of any fast food burger is to go in and sit down and eat it.  Going through the drive-thru and taking it home or to the office will most certainly result in a loss of quality.

After reading the early comments here, I stopped at my local Wendy's yesterday and ordered a #1 (Dave's Hot n Juicy single) with everything but ketchup, and a medium lemonade.  The burger was very good and surprisingly the tomato tasted like a tomato.  The bun was nice and fresh and, to me, had a good taste.   I'd give it a solid B for a FF burger.  It would probably drop to a C- if I had taken it home to eat.

In our town, if you want a fast food burger, you're limited to Wendy's, McD's, Sonic, or BK.  For me, any of them are acceptable, if you eat inside.  If I'm going through the drive thru, I stick with a chicken sandwich because it seems to hold up better on the trip home.

When traveling through Rochester, In I had a double Dave's Deluxe.  Never again.  I like Wendy's regular burgers, but Daves Deluxe is not worth the extra $'s.  Bun-not special, not toasted at all, burger-no larger than regular Wendy's burger, fixings:  only difference I could see was red onion.  Really disappointed.

wendy's new burger is great! didn't like it all before, too salty, too greasy, bad quality.  now there's no salt(which a lot of people probably don't like), almost no grease, and meat tastes better quality. the roll is too small though and wasn't very good.

Had my first one tonight, and yeah, it was fairly greasy.  Otherwise nicely done, actually.
