We're getting a Sonic

It was announced today in our local paper that we will be getting Chicagoland's first Sonic after having their TV ads broadcast here for over a year. It will be built about 3 miles from my house at the corner of Butterfield Road and Kirk Road on the north edge of the Aurora-Batavia border. Should I bother fighting the traffic when it's open? It's being built on the edge of a new Super Wal-Mart and near an upscale outlet mall so there is a lot of traffic. Anything worthy?

I am not a fan of the sandwiches..However when the craving hits for a Burger at 9 AM it is one place where you can get all menu items at any time. The BLT is not a bad choice either.

I hit the Sonics for the Beverages. Their Fruit Aides and Slushes are very good. My Fav is the Cherry-Lime Aide or Slush with the Lemon-Berry close second choice.. If purchased between 2 and 4 PM daily they are half-price! The Hiway 44 size (Xtra-Large) is a real bargain!

The onion rings are pretty good. Need some salt...

QFan agrees that it's nice to be able to get a good burger at any hour of the day. Their burgers are pretty decent; just remember that they always come w/ mustard unless you tell them specifically to leave it off. Of course, their drink choices are legendary. The other thing that you might want to try (wayyy better than Mickey D's new McSkillet) is their breakfast steak, egg & onions burrito!

I think there's a big difference when eating one of their burgers or sandwiches at the curb and taking it home. Those foil bags keep the food hot, but it also tends to homogenize the flavors by the time you get it home.

Oh nooooo. My dad lives in Kenosha. I will never see him again. With the new kidney he can eat whatever he wants.

They have been playing commercials for Sonic for the last 4-6 years, and we have never had one close enough. He was planning on doing a road trip with me to Davenport, IA, sleeping in the parking lot & just eating all 3 meals there for 2 days straight. I only half think he was kidding.

So what is the one thing to order? Like if you had to finish this sentence...

I can't believe you went to a Sonic & didn't try the __________.

Can you keep a secret? Sonic will be coming to Wisconsin in the very near future. Until they arrive, try Five Guys Burgers. They recently opened two stores in Wisconsin: State Street in Madison and I94 & HWY 83 in Delafield. I was at the Madison store last Saturday. The cheeseburgers were very good and the fries were great.

Al, I'm a Culver's cheeseburger eater for years. However, the Five Guys cheeseburger is one tasty piece and the jury is still out until I make a second visit. My first impression was very favorable.

SD, the first Wisconsin Sonic will be in the Dells area. I'll post where and when as information is made available.

I wouldn't go out of my way for Sonic and if I had to choose between Sonic and McDonald's I'd go for the McDonald's value menu double cheeseburger. I do find their slushes very good though.

We got one two years ago in Holly Hill, FL. During the first 3-4 months, you could not get into the place it was so busy. Today, it's settled down. I enjoy their drinks very much...Especially the Lime Rickey

In our area, they ask if you want mustard or mayo. I agree about their breakfast burritos. they're head and shoulders above the dreck that McD's calls their McSkillet Burrito.

We got a Sonic several months ago and it was busy as heck for the first month.I tried it 2 times to give it a fair trial. I was not impressed. It was ok, but wouldn't make a special trip for it haha
The drinks were ok though.

The drinks are good. I've always liked their Grilled Ham and Cheese - it's not on the menu anymore, but if you ask for it they'll still make it. Ham, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo on Texas toast. Their burgers are okay. The mozz sticks and jalapeno cheese things are pretty good for an afternoon (or late night) snack. And I really enjoy their breakfast sandwiches on ciabatta - the bacon, egg and cheese is my favorite. But... having said all that, I have to be in the mood for Sonic to eat there.

The ones here don't wear skates period.

sonic arrived in south florida about a year ago. it was mobbed withthe uniqueness of the roller skated car hops. food is passable. i tend to stick with the coney dogs and an off menu item called frito pie. Its chili with fritos on top.

I seem to be in the minority here but I enjoy Sonic's food as well as their tasty drinks. Now I know it is fast food-but I would certainly pick it over McDonalds, BK, or really any other fast food joint.

We are getting a NEW one---or at least a major remodel---every business in little old Checotah Oklahoma is growing-----seems that Carrie Underwoods---"one stop light town"---is now longer----Walmart just built a super store---added a second stop light and every bisness in town is sprucing up in hopews of keeping the old customers and gaining new one from the folks that come up from all the cottages around Lake Eufalla to shop. I guess for fast food--Sonic is ok--but it really shines for drinks---Happy Hours every afternoon!!-and a mean raspberry lime slush!

I've only been to Sonic on two occasions and swore never to return. I will have to reconsider and try one of those slushes.

ellen4641, you've got to come to Daytona. theres a bunch of places here you'd like.

We too are finally getting 1 close to us, about 15 miles away. It too is in conjunction with a new super WM. See a pattern here?

Anyways I like their food, not great but passable.

It looks like the whole world is getting Sonics. There are now 3 in the Naples/Ft Myers area and they are opening a 4th (under construction) in Bonita Springs. These have all sprung up over the past 18 months.
