What Deli/Diner Sandwiches Do You Love?

There are 3 sandwiches I judge delis and diners by, and was wondering what everyone else's are.  As much as I'm into reuben's, muffs and philly cheesesteaks, these are the sammies I judge diners and delis by:

The Club:  Something about turkey, ham & bacon with toasted bread, mayo, tomato and lettuce can be magical if done well.  Even better if avocado is added.

The Italian:  Growing up in Groton, CT, I have had a TON of great italian subs/grinders/hoagies.  Anyone who can do one of these well, with great bread, loaded meats, cheese and veggies, and topped with oregano and oil is worthy of marriage:)

The French Dip:  My best so far is the one I make at home, but my first came through Arbys, lol.  I have had a few really good ones, but most of them are made using the overdone roast beef, the idea being the au jus will moisten it.

What are your favorite sandwiches, by which you judge delis and diners, and where are they?  In VA I love a deli called Bozzelli's, where even the simplest tuna salad or blt is fantastic, out here in WA I love the Italian Sub from Noah's Ark Restaurant or the Club from Big Apple Diner.

I grew up eating corned beef on rye. That's still my favorite deli sandwich.

I have not yet tried that one, yes I know, sue me.  I spent my 20's married to a man who does not appreciate sandwiches, so now that I'm in my 30's I am all over trying everything.  Corned beef on rye I will try as soon as I am somewhere who can do it well......out here on the West Coast I may be looking for a while, lol!

Hot Beef, Hot Turkey, Hot Pork.  all with real mashed potatos and extra gravy. gravy being the key. I hate canned gravy.

In Lake Hiawatha NJ,  on N. Beverwyck Rd,  there is a place called "The Spa",  in a strip mall.

    Run by hardworking Greek family....

Chicken Salad on Fresh Pita.....their chix salad is absolutely fresh & delicious,  uncomplicated with simply ingredients, and their Pita is always always fresh !!!!!

This place knows how to make a sandwich.

My favorite at a deli is a corned beef special (w/cole slaw & russian dressing) on rye.  At a diner I would say the hot roast beef sandwich with french fries and plenty of gravy for the sandwich and the fries.  The quality of the gravy makes or breaks the whole dish.

Growing up in NE Connecticut, there was not a Jewish Deli to be found.  So while I LOVE LOVE LOVE a great pastrami on rye with mustard; I can most associate with Italian Delis.

In Torrington, CT there is a place called Salerno Import & Deli.  They offer a choice of grinder roll, hard roll or Milite's Italian bread; which is a very crusty and dense bread.  I think the Italian bread is really what makes the sandwich.

In general, when I walk into and Italian Deli, I want to know what meats come on the "combo."  Ham and Pepperoni are a big NO NO.  The combo should be Capicolla and Sopressata.  If you're in a really good place, they have Prosciutto on there as well.

There's a place here called "The Original Alan's Cubana" that makes a sandwich called "T. J. Belly Buster".  It's roast beef, imported ham, provolone, swiss, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo and their "super sauce".  It's delicious!  I have no idea what's in the "super sauce" but it's pretty super. They make a darn good chicken salad platter also.  2 scoops of chicken(or tuna, crabmeat(processed)) on a bed of lettuce with hard boiled egg, cucumber, tomatoes, pickles, all sliced, add some simple vinegar and oil.  It's a meal you don't want to end.

My favorite is a sandwich from Glorioso's deli on the east side of Milwaukee-proscuitto, hot capicola, mortadella, provolone, lettuce, tomato, olive oil and oregano on fresh baked bread from a bakery across the street. While I absolutely love a French Dip,I dont know any deli's that serve them.Only restaurants.

Rusty-alan's cubana is still open? i remember eating there as a kid/teen in the 80s. great sandwiches as i remember.

i think a better question for me might be what sandwiches do you NOT love. i'm not a big fan of tuna salad-otherwise i love all deli/diner sandwiches. reubens, cubans, phillys, blt, pastrami on rye, patty melt, chicken salad....

    time for lunch

I drove by there yesterday and all the beer lights were lit up so I'm assuming they are still open. They may not open until like say 4p like "Gator City"(the old "Purple Porpoise")does Monday through Thusday then noon on Fridays since it's summer and the student load is lighter.  I haven't been there in awhile, we've been hitting "Copper Monkey" for burgers, french dips, great salads, etc. and "Gator City" for wings and cold beer, and they have a good burger as well.

for a deli (assuming you mean a jewish deli) I'd have to go with a pastrami sandwich or a turkey both on rye (gotta see how fresh the rye is to check the deli)
for a diner I'd say a Hot Turkey Sandwich or a Club maybe a BLT

My all-time greatest deli sandwich goes back to the 70s and Bernie's Delicatessen in St. Louis Park, MN, a Jewish deli. They made a Reuben sandwich to die for with the best onion rings ever. Everything was made on premise as it was also a bakery. That deli is long gone.

As a Louisiana boy, I should say an oyster poboy, or shrimp, or debris....

But I really love a French Dip.  Toasted bread dipped in thin gravy...my shirt ruined...
