Crackers in soup is always a must for myself or sometimes I eat them with just mustard. My father however, crushes up saltines and puts them in his milk and eats it like that. He also does that with cornbread too.

I like dipping saltines into Campbell's mushroom soup or Wendy's chili. I, too, have a thing for smoked oysters or smoked mussels on saltines.

Blohatchi, you reminded me fo something from years ago! When I was about 9, I was eating saltines dipped in ice cream (Neopolitan as I remember) I had a loose tooth at the time, and managed to swallow it while eating that combination! I know I cried for quite a while because the tooth fairy wouldn't come since I had swallowed my tooth. I haven't done that combination since! (But do dip french fries in chocolate milk shakes...) And I did receive compensation for my trauma from the tooth fairy (I'm sure my folks didn't want to try and FIND the tooth)

Saltines: Homemade potato salad is perfect.
Saltines: Piemento cheese.

On Sunday afternoons cream cheese and jelly. I also like cream cheese and jelly to top on graham crackers.

Rusty246, smoked canned oysters are like canned asparagus... not at all like the fresh version, but good as their own separate catagory.
In the deep South, cracker means the square white ones with a little salt. If we mean some other kind, we name them.
Best cracker snack is crackers with Kumbak dressing.

Papa Joe, Nutella is a chocolate and hazelnut flavored spread about the consistency of peanut butter. Kumback sauce is a condiment made famous by the Sweet Potato Queens, but I can't put my hands on the recipe at the moment.

All these foods mentioned are great with saltines. I never met a food I didn't like on a saltine (or a Ritz). But my favorite is Potted Meat or Vienna Sausage. Am I the only one? I'm surprised no one out there has mentioned it. Even PB with Marshmellow creme on a saltine or Ritz.

Thanks Diva and Tasty! Diva, I have heard of the Chili Queens but not the Sweet Potato Queens.

Lots of great snack ideas here, thanks all!

You remind of something my mom used to eat.
When she couldnt sleep, she would crumble saltines up into a glass of milk and spoon it out, and then I guess it would make her tired. I would see it by her bedside in the AM, and it was hell to clean out of the glass.
(Thanks for giving me a fond memory of my mom!)

Hello All,
Dayi, I, too, forgot about potted ham. I liked them on crackers and bread. But then
I started hearing about what potted ham was made of. I crave eating them, but...
the ingredients.
Take Care,

Seriously, Andrea? That's a mighty high-falutin' spread to put on a lowly saltine. Maybe you should save that for some fancy water crackers! It almost seems like an insult to the brie!

Sounds absolutely d'licious, though.

My dad used to make something he called "cracker soup." He'd heat up milk, butter, salt, and LOTS of black pepper, then crumble up saltines in it. Sort of like oyster stew without the oysters. It was good.

My sweety has milk and crackers about once a week. I think it's an old time dish. I think her granny tought er to eat that. Hmm, and she eats a frech galiic cheese that comes in a tub, but w/ Club crackers. The tub is in the fridge but the package is gone, and I can't remember the name, good though. She lets me have a bite now and then.

Papa, Alouette makes a killer garlic cheese spread, and there is usually one in my house.
In addition to putting it on crackers-(which I also love the Club ones),, I also toast some bread and use it as a spread for a rockin' fresh sliced tomato sandwich.

Yah, seriously! The melted brie and crunch of the saltine and slivered almonds go very well together, for me! But I also like saltines with melted cheddar and dipped in tomato soup!

So you raise the lowly cracker to the level of the brie. Hmmmm (heehee).

Cheddar with tomato soup sounds good too.

I like the philly cream cheese blends with onion and chives on saltines, or triscuits.

I used to love saltines with peanut butter on them or even just plain butter. My favorite now is pickled bologna alone on them or sometimes with a piece of cheddar cheese. What a great snack!

PapaJoe8, Kumbak is a regional sauce/dressing used on salad, shrimp and many other things. It can best be described as thousand island on steroids. It is a mixture of mayo, cocktail sauce, ketchup, onions garlic, black pepper, lemon and some other seasonings. I have never seen it produced commercially, but many restaurants have a version as their "house" dressing.

Allouette is great on garlic bagel chips. I guess those could qualify as a type of cracker.
