RE: What are you reading?
Last night I read D*U*C*K*, the new novella from Poppy Z. Brite. It's set in her Liquorverse, which is what she calls the world of her previous three novels, Liquor, Prime, and Soul Kitchen. The books deal with Rickey and G-man, longtime life partners and cooks, and their adventures in opening their own restaurant. The books are terrific. I've read each one in the series at least three times. They're set in New Orleans and as someone who spent several of my formulative years in New Orleans, they really speak to me. They're great foodie books and great roadfoodie books and just great books period.
D*U*C*K* is not quite as strong as the other novels but still good. It deals with Rickey and G-man being hired to cook for a charity and Rickey's hero, Former Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert, the Cajun Cannon.
I challenge anyone to read the Liquor series without getting hungry. It can't be done.
