My preference is Kirkland signature brand coloumbia supremo bean coffee from Cosco; comes in a 3lb. can. Very bitter taste at first try, several experimental pots later, I found out I was using too much. Now after several dozen cans, over a few years, I always get a good cup of coffee as needed.

I always buy Kroger's Spotlight brand. The whole beans when they got'em (it also comes ground). According to a kroger warehouse guy I knew, the Spotlight brand has a decent percentage of Arabica beans. It does taste good and at 6 bucks and change for a 39oz bag it's a decent deal.

Red package Eight O'clock used ot be a favorite, but there is no longer an A&P near me. Chock Full o' Nuts columbian or New York is the standard at home now. For Christmas my wife and I put packages of Dunkin' Donuts coffee in each other stockings, then the first one up makes the coffee. When we have to do a quick pickup at CVS it's Maxwell House, but it's not my choice brand.

Costco here in Austin sells several varieties of beans under the Seattle Mountain brand name. I like the Columbian, Sumatra, Costa Rican and as a change I also like Community coffee. There used to be a brand called 8 o'clock but I can't find it any more.

Dunkin for us. We buy the 5lb bags (whole bean) that the franchise locations use direct from Dunkin. Grind fresh as we go. The 1lb bags they sell are not the same bean or roast. Go through a silver 5lb bag every 4 weeks.

My coffee choice is a bit unusual -- I buy Lutheran World Relief Fair Trade Coffee from my church. The money goes to a great cause (sustainable farming), and you have a variety of selections (both whole bean and ground). The Organic Ethiopian coffee tastes like a slightly less bitter form of Starbucks Breakfast Blend. If you can find this coffee, I recommend it. You can also get a variety of tea and instant cocoa.

For an interesting take on Starbuck's, have a look at this old article:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/e/a/1999/08/01/MAGAZINE13027.dtl&hw=Laura+Fraser&sn=008&sc=727
(Note that I am NOT a Starbuck's fan, I am a Peet's fan. This article only tells part of the story, but
the origins of Starbuck's are not with Howard Schultz, as he would generally have you believe, they were in fact originally started by the current Director (formerly Owner) of Peet's. It's truly a long and not-always-so-nice story.)

I don't mean to be a propagandist or anything... my answer I guess ought to be that when I drink it it's usually Peet's (for me coffee is a treat, I used to be addicted and had a lot of pain in withdrawal... seriously).

Dunkin Donuts for us. We used to buy it online but now it's available locally. Seems to be the same product. Sometimes I buy Peets and grind it myself.

Newhall Coffee Roasting Co., Newhall Blend, a medium dark roast.
This is a Southern California firm that micro-roasts in small batches. Once you've had their product, you won't look at Peet's.

Folgers first choice, then Maxwell House French Roast

Loved Louisianne but can't seem to find it any more in the supermarkets. Fell in love with it a long time ago when visiting New Orleans and used it faithfully but it seems to have dropped off the edge of the world up here in the midwest.

Can't stand Starbuck's.

Maxwell House was always cheap bland coffee to me. Now they're claiming to have reformulated with all Arabica beans. Anyone tried the NEW Maxwell House??Any difference???

We drink Yuban as well. My parents discovered it at a restaurant when I was still living at home, some 15 years ago or so. I've tried other stuff a few times, but about a year ago gave up and decided to stick with what I like.

It's Melitta classic for me. It NEVER makes a bad cup of coffee and its vastly superior to Starbucks.

It's really -- and I mean REALLY -- easy to roast your own. Fun, not expensive (in fact, cheaper usually) and really educational. The FreshRoast roaster is available at many places online for under $100, and unroasted beans are available many places online (my favorite is Sweet Maria's (www.sweetmaria.com).

It seems inconvenient to roast your own coffee. And it is, a little. But not much. And once you've had really fresh coffee that's roasted properly, you'll never want to go back.

I have no financial interest in FreshRoast or Sweet Maria's.

Oh, coffee. My jittery lover. I have given up coffee so many times it's not even funny.

If I could only have one kind for the rest of my life? Millstone Chocolate Velvet sprinkled with Penzey's Vietnamese Cinnamon before it's brewed. Topped off with skim milk.

I grew up on Dunkin Donuts coffee it was the best. Moved to the West coast Bellingham WA in 1999. First sip of starsucks literly broke my addiction. Fortunately Canada Tim Horton's right across tho border. Life love and work brought me to China. I have 3 choices starsucks 2 hours away 3-1 instant everythings in a packet milk sugar maybe a coffee bean in it not sure.Learned to bring mass quanities of coffee each trip to US customs love me.
Got back US October 2007 wen't to the grass-roots of my childhood CT and DD. What crap they serve now bought bags and bags as gifts for friends in the NW and for China not one person liked it sadly i didn't know how bad it was till i was back in China.
What's in my cup did bring 2 large Folgers French Roast which i keep perking draining straining trying to re-roast it dry it and re-use it or 3-1. My e-mails to DD (anger) were replied to with a thank you for your faithful loyalty to DD in appreciation here are $1 off coupons and buy 5 bagels get a 6 th free.

I buy whole bean coffee mail order from a place called Baronet's in Hartford, CT. Been in business since the 30s. Super high quality fresh roasted. The have a wide variety of Central & So. America, African, Pacific and others including rare coffees. Their prices for 1 lb bag is often less than the 10 and 12 oz bags all the others sell, including Starbucks, Green Mountain, etc. Plus I think Baronet's is fresher and of higher quality.

On the East Coast, you can't beat this old favorite - Martinson. Deep rich flavor, not at all bitter, brews a wonderful cup. Drink it black or with cream, it always satisfies. This brand has been around since the late 1800's for a reason - it's damn good.

New England Coffee Grinders, bought whole bean at the grocery store. Today it's a mix of Columbian Decaf and Hazelnut. When we're flush we get a sampler pack from Old Bisbee Coffee Roasters. Never been disappointed by them. I'd love to try the Mello Joy. Wonder if I could find it online?
