What do you crave?

I've been dieting, see, and all I've been thinking about all morning is this snack we used to make when we were kids where you take a slice of sandwich bread and cover it with slabs of Monterey Jack cheese and you put it under the broiler until it gets brown and bubbly.

Dang. Guess I'll have another celery stick.

Chocolate chip cookies.
Another helping from the salad bar at Chuck Wagon House.
A 1/3 pound Hardee's Thickburger
Cherry Slush from Sonic (did that on Tuesday!)
The New York Steamer Sub from Firehouse Subs

rmcielwain - Care to elaborate? Chocolate chip cookies means what exactly to you? Warm out of the oven? The recipe on the back of the Nestle's package?

And what exactly is the Chuck Wagon House? And what do they serve on this salad bar that has you Jonesing?

Ermo, any kind of chocolate chip cookies will do, although my all-time
favorites, going back to college in the mid-80's, were the Duncan Hines
cookies which are unfortunately not produced anymore

Chuck Wagon House is our local spot for "roadfood" (Southern cooking, catfish,
shrimp, etc.) They have a lunch buffet, and you get pie for dessert - last week,
the pies weren't ready yet, so I filled the extra take-out container with
the salad bar. It was just a combination of many ingredients, and when I got
home, I made quick work of it in 20 minutes (I might be going back in about
an hour!)

Firehouse Subs is a regional "chain" (mainly Alabama, Georgia, Florida) of
about 100 stores...the nearest one to me is 25 miles down the interstate, so
when I get a chance to go over there, I'll get a NY Steamer (pastrami, corned
beef & the works, all steamed) to go - here where I'm at, a nice deli sub
doesn't exist & it leaves Subway in the dust!

6star - Dang. And these Firehouse Subs are good, you say?

rmcielwain - So I need to put the Chuck Wagon House on my to-do list next time I'm in ... where? ... Florida?

When dieting, I crave a big ol' steak, mushroom, onion and cheese sub, with hot pepper relish..
Man, I could go for one now!

I'm starting to question the wisdom of starting this thread. All this stuff sounds pretty good.

The one thing I'm NOT craving is more celery sticks.

I used to do that with american cheese.. Wow...I can taste one now.. well, time to go to the fridge!

My mother used to do instant pizza. Toast the bread, some tomato paste, spice it with oregano and garlic powder or whatever, maybe some olives, the cheese, brown it, and go. I do it in the microwave now, for cooking the cheese. A quick snack that does wonders for ya'.

Deep dish Chicago pizza

Warm chocolate chip cookies

Prime N.Y. Strip steak

Thai food (curries and coconut soup)
Pizza or Italian cold cuts
Pastrami Sandwich and chili fires
Big juicy medium cooked cheeseburger

I'm not dieting (should be watching my carbs more closely though, I've gained about 8lbs since quitting smoking a month ago!) but I tend to crave regional foods I can't get here. Since "here" is rural western Texas and I've lived in the South as well as up and down the East coast, it's a LONG list! The things I miss the most are great hotdogs (I'm a CT Hummel kind of gal), pizza, softshell crabs, steamers, oysters on the half shell... I could go on.

But I'll never want for good chicken fried steak or tamales.

Hey, txtwister, the grass is always greener. Enjoy your CFS and tamales. I bet you get good pie too, right? And Mexican breakfasts?

Mmmm-hmmmm! But there are times I know I'd swear off breakfast burritos forever for just one good pizza. LOL

PASTA!!! Bring on the red sauce and mozzarella. Favorite thing is Italian casserole, accompanied by garlic bread and a mixed salad covered with shredded mozzarella.

A Cheeseburger with Everything, Grilled Onions, not raw. If someone would invent a calorie-free chewing gum in that flavor, I'd make them rich!

An italian beef sandwich at Mr Beef on Orleans in Chicago - a 4 to 5 hour drive away - which I have only had once in my entire life

It occurs to me that far and away people crave savory foods over sweets.

The one food that I really crave on occasion is steamed clams. Then again about once a year it's chocolate covered cherries and I don't care for sweets that much. Chow Jim

Tonight after a successful trip to Tallahassee and now I am in Augusta. I will go to T-Bonz for a steak. They were voted best steak place in Augusta for 8 years.

I posted on another thread that this was my intentions. Unless I hear otherwise, I am going there for a Porterhouse, salad and a nice glass of red.

Ermo, I have been munching most of today on one of those New York Steamer Subs
described earlier (got it yesterday without having to play Frogger across the Wal-
Mart parking lot!)....still have one section to go!

The food in the catering biz makes me crazy.........too much king crab, shrimp, scallops, smoked salmon, lobster tails, filet mignon, on and on, so not too much turns me on food-wise. Well, except the following:

I crave BBQ at Dreamland.
Fried calamari at The Daily Catch.
A John G. with Debris (Mother's in NOLA).
Crispy fried clams from The Clam Box in Ipswich.
A boiled lobster from Woodman's. 3-pounder please.
