I wear an aid but it mainly masks the tinnitus, it doesn't improve my ability to distinguish speech and other noises much. It's especially tough in crowded situations or with a lot of background noise. I've perfected the art of nodding and smiling as though I've heard everything... when in fact I have NO idea what's goin on. So y'all aren't alone!

Now the main topic's question: I graduated in 2005 with my B.S. in biology. Started graduate school last August. So currently I'm a graduate student and "research assistant" in a toxicology lab. I love the lab but hate the classwork! haha Previously, I spent 5 years working for a catering & banquet hall, doing weddings and business meetings and all sorts of events. I was hired before the building was even completed, so I feel like the place is part of my blood. I LOVED it! Then I did a summer stint as a nurse extern at a hospital (was a nursing major before changing over to biology), which was very educational. I also worked a summer for an upscale hotel, doing banquets. Throw in a couple of undergrad years working for the college food service, in the cafeteria and student grill and doing banquets... and at the same time, assisting in the cadaver and microbiology labs on campus. And most recently, I've been working as a tech for a pathology lab in an area hospital. I've learned so much and gotten to do so much there! I'm sad that I had to cut back to temp-ing when I started back in school. Wow, that was long-winded. Apologies.

quote:Originally posted by boyardee65 Well, right now I am a bartender at my local American Legion. I have worked in about 50-60 restaurants in many different positions in the last 25 years, in spite of a degree in Architecture. I really like the dynamics of working with new people, new situations, and crisis. No two days are ever the same! I also spend some of time as the coordinator for our van service to Veterans to get to the local V.A. hospital for appointments. I also volunteer twice per month to cook on Friday Night Fish Fry. I don't ask for pay to do this as it is my gift back to our veterans!! David O. Thank you, from a VFW and American Legion member.

I currently burn hot dogs on a Denver street corner. I've done a lot of different service type jobs, from Limo Chauffeur, bartender, stage hand, hotel auditor, to television production. I moved to Colorado from Alaska to get a degree in Journalism, while doing that I repo'd cars part time. It was fun and the money was good...so I did that for the next 18 years. Probably about 5 too long. I am having a ball selling hot dogs...what guy doesn't like hanging around a grill, chatterboxing with friends and getting paid?

quote:Originally posted by roossy90I cant back into my original field of work, as I am too old. Whooo hoooooooo a whole 51 years of age is too old. (according to most employers)-- Did you think about going into business for yourself? Here's where an education could come in handy. quote:Originally posted by roossy90nor do I regret not going to school. It's not too late for that. I'm 48 and back, learning graphic arts. I'd love to get back into the print field. I first started enjoying it when I could point out stuff that I helped make to people browsing at newsstands, and liked being ahead of the curve compared to other readers, but was downsized a few years back. Now I'm a security guard at a sausage plant. Any of you who slum to Mickey D's or Barfer King can blame me and mine for the sausages you have for breakfast, as can Wally World aficionados. It's not a bad job, because it's flexible enough for me to go to school and deliver newspapers on Wednesday Mornings. Unless I work first shift, I can catch up on my reading, too, unless it's school stuff that would take too much attention from the actual security business. Of course, the major benefit of working at Fair Oaks Farms is I can buy Wally World branded sausage at a discount and experiment with it. Southern style makes a not-bad bowl of chili. Teriyaki has my imagination going bonkers, too. Original is too salty and not enough other spices for me, though.
