What do you like your burger on?

There are so many different kinds of rolls. Sometimes I take a patty melt route and have mine on grilled sour dough bread! Pretty tasty!

Yes that's a tasty idea. I'm not too particular about my roll other than it has to hold up to any dressings / condiments that are on the burger. Nothing like a soggy mess of a bun falling to pieces.

The more I have thought about the more I am favoring texas toast for my burgers. Love the thickness and taste of the toasted bread and holds up well with toppings.

I like Texas Toast as well, and I also like certain rolls, if they have been steamed. I also like TGIF's cheeseburger that comes with no bun. I've been eating more than a few of then bun-less, just some good salt and pepper.

Remember Eddie Murphy talking about "house burgers" on plain Wonder Bread? That's what my mother liked. I like just the plain white bread buns with sesame seeds...toasted with butter.

I like mine on Kaiser (grilled), as long as they're 1/3 lb or larger burgers...

Yeah, I agree Route 11. At home I mostly use plain white bread for my burger. Never buy hamburger buns unless I'm cooking for a group.

Here in California, an inordinate number of places that serve burgers feel they have to have some big, dense, gawddawful specialty roll to put it on. I end up using a fork to scoop out half the bread - and make it a point to not go there again.

I also don't care for these 1/2 lb burgers that everyone is serving these days. 1/3 lb is the max size in my book. Preferably two patties of 1/6 lb each to make up the 1/3 lb. Kind of like what the Winstead's place (http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Writeup.aspx?ReviewID=2632&RefID=2641) is serving.

There is a place in Knoxville called Between the Buns that is a neat sports bar that has great pinball and other fun games. They grill the buns and the burger is soft and moist. Their fries are always fresh cooked and I like their style.

The grilled bun is for me although I have mostly left bread alone for about a year and a half due to the Atkins thing.

The holidays have not been kind to me and I picked up five pounds although I lost one of them yesterday and I plan on losing the rest in the next two weeks in preparation for my visit with RickF and Bushie in Austin.

I alway's enjoy a good hard roll. Haven't ever tried a burger on a kimmilwick, just roast beef, but now that I think about it, hmmm, sounds good.

I grew up eating the "house burgers" that Eddie Murphy referrs to and occasionally I want them again - with mustard, Texas Pete, and chipped onions.

When eating out I like the sesame seed or poppy seed hard rolls for a hamburger.

The bun for me is secondary.
    The burger is primary.
I will use a regular standard
hamburger bun; you guys know what
    I mean.
So long as the burger is medium rare,
80 percent ground chuck and seasoned
with S&P, cheese both sides of the bun
with whatever hits you at the time and
    I'm good.
A few days ago, I was at the Fort Lauderdale
    Continental terminal and reallyl hungry.
The choice was Chili's and basically nothing
    else but a coffee place.
The bacon, cheddar cheeseburger on a larger
bun was cooked medium, well and could not be
ordered any other way. It came with tomato, chopped
    letuce, and mayo.
    Guess what.
    It was tastless.

I like the crunch that goes with a toasted bun, but sometimes I like a good ole' steamed bun. How can you steam a bun at your own home without any special appliances?

My mom used to just sprinkle some water in a brown paper bag, throw in the buns and crumple close the bag and put in a medium temp oven for awhile. They came out steamed.

These days, I suppose a similar technique could be developed using a microwave.

Out here in the West, you order a Patty Melt, you get the patty, cheese,
and grilled onions on grilled rye. And that is my answer to your thread question.
