chewingthefat I miss the America we had when Howdy Doody was on TV. I am extremely happy that the "AmeriKKKa" that existed during the time of Howdy Doody is gone, at that time my immediate and extended family along with others like us were not allowed to vote, had to sit in the back of the bus, use different facilities, drink from a seperate drinking fountain and dozens of other indignities in the land of the "free"

I miss Christmas Eve feasts at my grandmother's house, or my Auntie Gene's, with loads of homemade Polish food; i.e. borscht with dried mushrooms from Poland, pierogies with all manner of fillings, sauerkraut, cherry, blueberry, prune, etc. (The fruit-filled ones were my favorites.) The fried smelts with tartar sauce, and all sort of tasty things, all of it made by hand from scratch. My Catholic elementary school in Springfield, where no matter how crowded the classrooms were (and they were very), you learned and got all the attention that you needed, whenever you needed it. Playing outside until the streetlights turned on, without having to worry about perverts prowling around.

At the minute it is British Cadbury's chocolate, fish and chips from a good ole Northern Irish chippy and my mother's stuffed pork fillet and Sunday roasts.

Well, I miss my mom. And my dad. And my grandparents. Food-wise, my mom's London Broil. She marinated it in Milani 1890 French dressing. Why I could never duplicate this is beyond me. I miss my grandmother's poppy-seed (Mun) cookies. She also used orange juice in them. Forget about even trying to duplicate the flavor and have it come out anything like she did. I'm a very good cook and baker, but forget trying to duplicate either of these two recipes. Believe it or not, I also miss my grandmother's boiled chicken! Non-food: miss my collie who died at the age of 15 in 1983. My grandmother died the same year. I was living in California at that time, and married that year. I kind of miss certain things about my marriage, which ended in '93. I don't miss my ex-husband (I have the best boyfriend in this world), although he and my daughter get together for lunch. That's fine with me!I miss my daughter being an infant and going to sleep instead of staying up all night on AIM, Facebook, myspace, etc.! I still look in on her when she's sleeping, and she still has that look of peace she had as an infant. Just beautiful! I miss so many of my relatives who've passed away. All the aunts and uncles. I miss talking to my brothers, who are 6 and 8 years older than me. They're still around, but they're just not...around HERE. I miss not being able to travel or go on long weekends, because I have two jobs, and one is 365 days a year..but that's going to end on December 31! Many other things I miss, but I ramble.

badbyron722 Der Weinerscnitzel,Duffs,Palmetto Grill,The Laxy B,Red Barons, Hmmm Der Weinerschnitzel? I guess you must've lived in the western or southwestern US in the past and used to be a customer because they are still going strong, as the TV ads used to say back in the day, "just look for the big red roof" Check this http://www.wienerschnitzel.com/locations.php

I miss my Father. It's six years now and seems like yesterday. I miss my Mochi who was the best part of my life for 11 years. She was a gorgeous Siamese Cat who thought she was a dog. I miss the Spanish Omelets that Jack in the Box had when I was going to college. That was in the 70's. They were incredibly good. I miss my thinner self.

mar52 I miss the Spanish Omelets that Jack in the Box had when I was going to college. That was in the 70's. They were incredibly good. I agree I used to enjoy those Spanish omelettes too, they were very good indeed. Back then during the first incarnation of Jack in the Box, when they still had actual Jack in the Boxes towering over each location and Rodney Allen Rippy doing their tv ads, Rodney was seen in Blazing Saddles-the black child on the wagon train crossing the prarie with his parents. Those Jack in the Box TV ads along with Cal Worthington & his dog Spot, Ralph Williams and Pizza Man-he delivers 'til 3 in the morning were among the best local Los Angeles TV ads in the 70s which reminds me I miss Thrifty Drug Stores and their cylinder shaped nickel a scoop cones with their award-winning ice cream, even though Rite Aid which bought them out continues to seel Thrifty ice cream in their So Cal stores it is not the same

Jonjax, you are so right! Cal Worthington and his dog Spot! Do you remember Cal riding the hippo? Ralph Williams I believe ended up in jail. Funny business with the loans. I always liked Sav-On's 10¢ scoop better than Thrify's along with their 3 for a dime candy bars. How about Don't cook tonight.... Call Chicken Delight! or The Colonel's Got Ribs. That one didn't last long.
