What do you shave with?

Electric or blade razor?  What brands or models?  I've had a Trac 2 for the past 35 years and it's disappeared so I'll have to buy a new razor.  Curious what everyone uses and likes.

I always used a razor but a while back i bought a Norelco 7340XL rotary shaver. I was always afraid these things didn't work- but just the opposite! It goes places i didn't think it would go and cuts through with ease. Easy to clean,  rechargeable. Pretty nice! I do on occasion use a razor in the shower to get really smooth! I paid $30 at Walmart.

Now that I am post menopausal, I use Bob's electric razor to rid myself of upper lip hair. How unfair that a woman becomes a man after 50.......LOL!!!!

When we started traveling in an RV I switched to an electric shaver. It is just more convenient when on the road especially when water conservation is important. I use a Braun and have to buy a new shaving head about every year. It shaves close enough but not baby butt smooth like a razor.

I use a Norelco 7110X (my second rechargable Norelco).  The first one had a little brush to clean it, while this one you are supposed to wash under running water.  I still use the little brush from the first one to clean this one.  I know it is supposed to be completely sealed, but, to me, electricity and water just shouldn't mix.  I have to recharge it for about 8 hours about once a week.

I think I've tried them all. I've spent as much as $200 on different electric models but never have been quite satisfied. I think I've had most every kind of modern blade razors from the Fusions to the Shick's. I've never been quite satisfied but would to say I probably favor the Gillette Fusions though the cost of blades is outrageous. I do have a crazy beard that grows in several directions so I think that's the problem.
On a side note I noticed my barber uses a  single edge blade which fits into a straight razor frame to do neck trims and I assume shaves. Maybe the barber using a real straight razor in a thing of the past.

My first electric razor was a pink Sunbeam.  Purchased by my mother for me with Blue Chip Stamps.

I use both a Shick 4 trac and a Braun series 5; depends where I am and circumstances. If at home and have time it's the Shick in the shower. If working, the Braun in the car on the way to work.
Blade shaves closer than electric. Those blades have become outrageously expensive.

I'm old skool, I shave with a Merkur double-edge safety razor.   Considering that the blades cost about 20 cents each in bulk, I save a lot of money.  I have a straight blade I use as well, but mostly only for detail work.

I have very sensitive skin and a tough beard, so electrics just tear my face up. I like the refreshing feeling after a regular shave anyhow.

I've been using one of those Mach 3 Power razors (the vibrating one) with great results. The blades are pricey, but I only shave once or twice a week, so they last me a while.
I wish Noxzema still made their menthol shave cream, or if they do, I could get it in my area. Haven't seen it in at least 15 years in any store around here. I use their aloe shave cream now.

I had to use disposable razors while out of town a couple months ago (forgot mine at home), I went through 2 of them, and I must have cut myself 8 times. Never again.

    SeamusD:
The Noxzema Mentholated Shave Cream is no longer made in the U.S., and at least, according to one website, is no longer even made in Italy.  However here is a website that still lists the Italian version.  Scroll about halfway down the page for a 150 ml. tube of Nozxema for $18.  http://www.razorandbrush.com/barberiacreams.html

I'm not sure where you might find the razor but your are more apt to find the blades in a hardware store than a drugstore now since they are still used for paint and glass scrapers.

Does your medicine cabinet have a slot in the back for disposal of old blades?  Had one of those in the family house that was built in 1950.

I always wondered if there was a pile of blades under the house.

What an instant flashback you created! One of the houses we lived in had one of those!
Hadn't ever thought about it until you brought it up!

Because the cost of cartridge razors has risen, I made the decision to purchase an electric razor. I have a Norelco 7810XL. I think it does a good job, but once a week, usually on Mondays, I still use a cartridge razor. I've used the Mach 3 & Mach 3 Turbo. I've also used the Gillette Fusion. I have to say, the Fusion is a very smooth shave.

I really sliced my ankles up good with those single double edged blades.

Oddly, with double and triple blades I don't cut myself at all.

Gillette Venus. It has 5 blades. Skintimate makes a lotion-based shave cream now that I use as well. The replacement blades are expensive, but since I swim, I need to shave or my shins get all prickly in the pool.

I have had it with the self perpetuating innovation in razor technology...5 blades , ten blades...foaming goo strips...yours for only $16.00 for two (maybe three) blades. I was perfectly happy with a single blade Wilkinson Sword cartridge razor...for years..I had a double blade cartridge for a while but then I gave up trying to keep up with the ever more expensive razor 'improvements'.

I now buy generic disposable twin blade razors...$4.00 and I'm good for a year (helps that I have a light beard). I'm a cup shaver too, I've bought maybe two cans of shaving cream in my life (not counting the ones for Halloween in my youth). I alternate between two brands of cup soap, one is from Crabtree and Evelyn (sp?) and the other is some brand I find in Rite Aid...both good creamy soaps.

I finally called Proctor & Gamble & told them to stop putting the coupons in the paper for the razor, and put more money off the damn refills. After 5 years, they do it sometimes in the P&G Brandsaver.
