I may be the only person in America who doesn't eat and watch football at the same time.

The Sundancer is not a football fanatic, but I watch all Tennessee games. I have had season tickets for 40 years. I do not go often, but my tickets go to every home game. Daughter and son in law takes care of that.

I tailgate at my dock where I have cable TV.

The bowl games are particularly fun. This is not Tennessee's finest year and they may end up in the toilet bowl. I will not go into the menu for that.

Eat? No - just some fine hops and barley in liquid form

No special snacks for the bowl games, but for the Superbowl (which is going to be here in HOUSTON this year!) the menu is always:

    Muffaletas
    Green onion shrimp dip
    Beer

I buy fresh shrimp, at least a pound, but the more the better! Boil the shrimp with Zatarains shrimp boil and lemons, or boil of your choice. Peel the shrimp and coarsely chop.

I make two packages of the Knorr green onion dip mix ( if I can find it) if not, I will use another brand.

After the dip is made, stir in the shrimp and some finely chopped green onions. Occasionally I will add some Old Bay seasoning to taste, but sometimes not, it is fine without it.

This is best left to sit in the fridge overnight. It is one of those things that once you start eating, you just can't stop!

I would use my own except growing season ain't here now.

I was shopping for vegetables at a local Asian market yesterday and could not help but notice the number of people buying green onions! I actually questioned an elderly couple and their response was that they had eaten green onions all their lives and have never become ill. I asked if they had heard about the Chili's restaurant and the number of people that became ill, they informed me that it was because the onions had not been refrigerated!!!! Oh well, my oyster and artichoke soup for Thanksgiving calls for green onions and I am going to substitute lightly sauteed onions and lots of chopped chives for color.

I don't know Sundancer - that thought had not occurred to me. I will probably throw caution to the wind and use them.

All of the outbreak was confined to that one area wasn't it? I am going to have to check the CDC website and see what they have to say about it.

Well, here is the answer from the CDC - you are supposed to cook them, but I think that would ruin the dip. :(

It's not a bowl game, but Thanksgiving dinner is being held up at our house this Thursday until the Packers-Lions game is over. Who can concentrate on food when we know that they are counting on us to help them win the game with our yelling and cheering?

We don't usually eat during Bowl games either, although I had a breakfast of brats, cheese and beer before the last bowl game that I actually attended.

Actually, it was a Chi-Chi's in PA and not a Chili's where the tainted green onions were.

Sundancer, up here in Pennsylvania, I'm trying to put the worst season in Penn State football history behind me. A 9 loss season has never happened.

Joe Pa has to go, the Knittany Lions are becoming a disgrace, and yes it was a Chi-Chi's at the Beaver County Mall (no jokes anybody) and my mother's neighbor was one of the ones who NEARLY died. She just got released from the hospital. Don't think she'll be eating green onions anytime soon. As with all fruits and vegetables, wash them well and you should have no problems.

Hey, if it weren't for Thanksgiving, the Lions' season might be even worse. They have a way of playing better on Thanksgiving than they do the rest of the season.

Julia, I have to know. Did you post that befroe the Leos stunned the Pack? And if you did, got any hot tips for the weekend?

Well, the game was in session. The Packers tend to come up with the short end of the stick when they play Detroit on Thanksgiving.

My hot tip for the weekend is, don't let leftover dressing sit around too long!

naked Gun 33 1/3 movie....Priscilla Presley is going up a ladder in a skirt when her cohort looks up and says "nice beaver" to which I nearly fell over watching it with my Mom. She comes down the ladder with a beautiful stuffed beaver. You gotta love it. AND have a sense of sick humour!

A couple quick things about "beaver". Penn State's football stadium is: Beaver Stadium. A small college outside of Philadelphia got so tired of beaver jokes that it changed its name from Beaver College to Arcadia University. Oh, and it was an all female college...

I may have mentioned this before, but my Super Bowl Sunday tradition for years has been hot pepperoni sandwiches. They were available everywhere where I grew up, but can't get them in Rochester.

It's similar to a meatball sub. You slice up sticks of pepperoni, them simmer in spaghetti sause (I like tomato basil with small chunks of tomato best)for hours. If you are diet conscious, boil the pepperoni in water for a few minutes to get out the excess fat before adding to the pot of sauce. You can put some crushed red pepper in the water so the pepperoni doesn't lose any flavor.

Serve on good hard rolls, or sections of french bread. Yummy

I know we are waaaaaAAAY off of being topical, but what the hey.

In Northern Kenucky, there are two state parks that are very, very close together, named 'Big Bone Lick" and "Beaverlick".

Serious. I couldn't make stuff like this up.....
