What happened to Gatorade?

They evidently dropped the name on the bottle replaced it with a big G with a lightning bolt, and let no one know. Even the woman at my local Grocery counter checkout wasn't sure if the G bottle I bought was Gatorade. How stupid ir this marketing technique or lack thereof. I don't remember seeing any adds on TV, or anywhere else. Anyone have an answer?

Not that his helps you any but being from the area I remember the Cade family not being real happy with the decision, somewhat disrespectful of Dr. Cade which of course basically invented it, and thinking that sales may go down do to consumers not recognizing the product.

They are running ads that say they have three different levels of thirst quenching. They are calling it the G Series. G1 is to drink before working out. - PRIME G2 is to drink during. - PERFORM G3 is to drink after. - RECOVER

Dr. Pepper could use this marketing gimmick with their 10 2 4.

I have a couple of bottles of G2 at my desk that I use for running. It does say gatorade in four different spots on the bottle, two of which are fairly prominent. Granted, it's not the same as having the name splashed across the bottle. For better or worse, I think they're just trying to keep up with the Joneses of the marketplace.

Interesting. I've seen the G being prominent in commercial, but I didn't realize they'd changed the Logo on the product to include nothing but the G.

They made the change when Pepsi bought them out.

It's because they want fans of other SEC schools and fans of FSU and Miami to buy it.

I guess I didn't have a problem recognizing it as Gatorade. Since they've always had the same font for their name and a lightning bolt when they went to just the G it wasn't a huge deal for me. It's more modern, more universal, an as mentioned they now have three different formulas. Works for me!
