And I absolutely totally 100% agree. Which is why I typically hate "best" lists or "top 10" lists because they are completely meaningless other than being one persons personal opinion, which usually do nothing more than start verbal knife fights.

And for the record, while there is some Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine in my fridge, theres two Bud Lites next to them. And after eating lobster nearly every day for a year straight while being a SCUBA instructor in Thailand, I much prefer good shrimp to good lobster. So I myself prove your own point.

Hey Toad
I find that my few bottles of Pilsner Urquort (SP?) tend to migrate to the back of the fridge when a new load of Bud-Lite gets put in...but when I put Shiner's in the Czech Beer seems to intermix with the Texan Bottles. Do you think that is a subliminal snob thing? The Czechs identify with a Czech Brewery in Texas and are culturally hostile to the Budwiser name???

Hey Mr. Mayor - which Shiner?

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/143

For a Texas brewery, they stick pretty firm to all German styles of beer, not far removed from the Czech pilsner. Maybe the Pilner Urquell and Shiner are kissing cousins?

Sierra Nevada Big Foot Barley Wine is one STRONG BREW. imho it is the best brew from Sierra Nev Brewery. 2 Big Feet = 6 pack Bud! In a way it is economical for it's buzz index and great taste.

We have some of the Shiner Honeyweiss and Summer ale now and then, but I do really like the Boch. we can get it now and then in Louisville, but not often. I try to find it when we head South or West on a roadtrip.

Thanks to Al, I visited Shiners in Texas along with many of our roadfood friends. I do not often drink beer as I tend to stick to my normal libation but I have to admit that it was very good. I believe Bushie, Al, WJ, Traveling Man was on that trip. We enjoyed it very much.

The tour of their brewery was very good.

When ever I get up to WI I always pick up some LaCrosse Lager from City Brewery. ( the old G. Heileman brewery in LaCrosse.)

On another note here are the lyrics to a song that applies by Da Yoopers called "Free Beer"

1. SOME GUYS LIKE THAT BOTTLED BEER
SOME LIKE IT IN A CAN
SOME SAY A KEG'S THE BEST BEER
FOR A REAL BEER DRINKING MAN
EVERYONE HAS THEIR FAVORITE
BUT ON ONE THING THEY AGREE
THE GREATEST BEER IN ALL THE WORLD
IS THE ONE YOU DRINK FOR FREE
CHORUS:
FREE BEER FREE BEER
THAT'S MY FAVORITE BRAND
IF I DIDN'T HAVE TO BUY IT
ITS THE BEST BEER IN THE LAND
WARM FLAT FUNKY
IT DON'T MATTER TO ME
THE GREATEST BEER IN THIS WHOLE WORLD
IS THE ONE YOU BUY FOR ME

2. THE BOYS AT THE BAR WERE BETTING
ON WHOSE BEER WAS THE BEST
I DIDN'T HAVE A NICKEL
SO THEY CHOSE ME TO MAKE THE TEST
THOSE FIFTEEN DIFFERENT KINDS OF BEER
WERE WONDERFUL TO ME
EACH ONE WAS MY FAVORITE BREW
THE BEER I DRINK FOR FREE

(REPEAT CHORUS)

3. OUR OLD PAL NUDSIE GOT MARRIED
HE WAS TRYING TO SAVE SOME BUCKS
HE WENT OUT AND BOUGHT THE CHEAPEST BEER
AND BOY IT REALLY SUCKED
BUT AFTER YOU CHOKE THAT FIRST ONE DOWN
THE REST GO EASILY
AS LONG AS YOU REMEMBER THAT
YOU'RE DRINKING THEM ALL FOR FREE

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Years back, was in a Jersey club called Beers International, which educated me enough to realize quality beats quantity. Both its mentor and their key British advisor are sadly both gone, but they taught me to sample with diversity in mind. Boston Beer’s consistently great, but getting pricey even though I’m a stockholder, and now heard even Bud’s going up again. Time to get all the spider-webs off my home-brew equipment. Many of desertdog’s faves are mine too, though I can no longer get Blatz like I did last year. A Lake Michigan fishing trip many year’s ago got me a 32” rainbow trout, and when asked what I caught him on, said “my 4th Hamm’s.” Beer is whatever you find enjoyable at the moment, and just as seafarer john suggests, on trips, try as many different brews as possible, (sure he too uses a designated driver). If I ever hit the Mega Millions, will attend both the annual Munich Octoberfest and Colorado’s extravaganza too, but for now, it’s mostly whatever’s on sale for me.

Presently, five of the six-pack of Coors Light I bought to accompany nachos & cheese for the Dallas-New England game are still in the fridge.

An update as football season is upon us again: only three Silver Bullets now remain and I look forward the nachos, cheese & jalapenos urge coming over me again!

I hope that will happen before the local Cowboys visit my Steelers late in the season. That occasion will require Iron City, or, if I can't find IC in Dallas, Rolling Rock from Latrobe, PA.

I like the New Belgium line. My personal fave is Fat Tire, but i also like their seasonal stuff like Porch Swing and Skinny Dip.
A family friend's home brew is very good as well

When I'm out my order choice is as follows
Fat Tire
Bud
then I pout and order a soda

Though I'm planning on expanding my ordering preferences by trying the World Beer Tour offered by Old Chicago with a friend

I might be big, but was never a big beer drinker yet from my younger days I recall a Norwegian beer called Ringnes that I really liked.
Does anyone else remember that?
For that matter, has anyone seen it lately?
If I recall, it was shipped here in bulk and bottled here.

Aside from Ringnes, I enjoy a Tsing Tao once in awhile

I keep hearing that Rhinegold is once more on the market, but it hasn't reached the Delmarva area. Does anybody know anything about this?

Ringnes was bought out by Carlsberg in the 90s and I haven't seen it since. It was indeed a very good beer.

I also enjoyed Ringnes (I believe it was called Ringnes special) I haven't seen it since the 70's. I did some checking and as far as I can tell it's not available anywhere. I recall being in Denver when I drank it.

While I am certainly going to miss many of the fantastic PacNW beers, I am looking forward to again drinking many of my Midwest favorites in a couple of weeks. Bells, Great Lakes Brewing, Dark Horse, Founders, Three Floyds all leap to mind.

Last weekend I picked up a six pack of Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat. I use to love a cold Leinie when I was in Chicago, but I rarely see it in Central New York.. I have to say this is now officially my favorite wheat beer...nice complex flavors..

For everyday drinking, I usually go with Yuengling. It tastes good, goes well with most food and doesn't look (and taste) like scared water.

Other favorites include the Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout (not bad when smoking a pipe...a tobacco pipe), the Samual Smith Nut Brown Ale, Xingu Black Beer (reminds me of not quite as sweet, alcoholic version of the Cuban drink malta), Tusker (a Kenyan lager), and many more. I'm no beer snob either, I'll pop open a Schlitz (put a little salt on the top of the can before you pop it open; not the malt liquor) or Stroh's in a heartbeat. I can't find Stroh's around here any more though, which stinks.

Leinenkugel just came out with a new brew called Classic Amber, a craft style brew. I bought some and like it very much.
