What is the best chain buffet?

When I live/and went to school in Dover DE, we used to eat at Golden Coral Steak and Buffet. Great food, fresh baked goods. Every time we go down for homecoming/or a frat function we always meet up at this place. Some of the guys even get some of the baked goods to take home (pies/cookies/cinn.buns)

Whether you think that the word best can be used along with the words chain buffet is of little importance. There are an awful lot of people who are happy with the fare offered at these places. Go into one and you'll see lots of families enjoying their meals. Isn't that what it's all about? They may not be able to afford a 4 or 5 star restaurant or maybe even a 3 star, but they can eat at one of these chains and enjoy what they get. I don't usually go to buffets of any type, but occasionally my 90 year old mother wants to go to Golden Corral, so that's where we take her. I don't have any complaints.

Or is that a no no? I have seen a few reviews where the store has had a buffet (bbq/soul food. I realize that that is not the soul purpose of that restaurant, but a buffet none the less. I would not eat at a buffet that was not busy(fast turn over in the food). But a good buffet will not have there items sitting under a heat lamp all day either.(some items will-non popular ones-but don't eat those)

There is a real good Golden Corral thread here somewhere. I like the salad bar and the peel and eat shrimp. The have an upscaled Pancho's that is REAL good IMHO. t has a sub name but I forgot it, daa. Pancho's are just in a few states though. I think the francise owners have allot to say about the quility of the food, almost like a roadfood chain. The owner is almost always behind the counter talking to folks. The green chili stew over rice, the Tex Mex tacos, those rolled crispy things youin sour cream, fresh guacamole, several kinds of salsas, just about everything was good. The enchiladas were my least fav. but they tasted the same as they always have. They even had some good stuffed bell peppers on two trips. It is near Town East Mall in Mesquite Texas. Joe

Usually, though, when required to be at a place with a buffet I just order a cup of coffee -- of course if there are no people to take an order I don't have anything at all..

Oh, maybe kind of a chain, the Horseshoe Casino in Bosier City, La. has a great Bufett. The salids, oriental food, home cookin kinda stuff, fish and shrimp, everything is real good, And, some of the best bread pudding I have ever had. I think it may have some Bourbon in it. This is always a two hour meal for me. Joe

Many people have issues with buffets, but what about cafeteria style places? A lot of meat and three places, steak houses, some BBQ places, and of course traditional family style places have a cafeteria format. Let's face it a cafeteria line can be alot like a buffet, only the cafeteria line doesn't encourage repeat trips. Yes, some cafeterias have someone serving the food, but many do not. And all cafeterias have many help yourself parts, like desserts, fruits, cold dishes, drinks, bread, etc...

I like cafeterias. I do not like so-called family-style places.

The Golden Corral grills steaks to order on a flame grill, and I love the way they come out real hot! The combination of the hot meat, along with the tasty seasonings, makes me give the Golden Corral MY vote. (the meat is actually tender, too, somehow) I don't like most buffets because of the lukewarm food. I also like their yeast rolls, and the hamburgers they broil to order for lunch. And their barbecued 1/4 chicken has a real nice flavor to me. Try it, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised! There is just one location in NJ now, (by Camden), which I went to last month. Supposed to be a few more coming. Been to the one in Boynton Beach, FL, too. Since the one in NJ is so new, though, it's still too busy, and I don't like feeling like part of a cattle stampede.

There a small buffet chain in the Pacific Northwest called The Royal Fork. I've never had a bad meal there. The baked fish is excellent.

MikeZ629, the NJ Golden Corral location is in Audubon, which is between Camden and Cherry Hill... right next to the new Wal-Mart strip shopping center, (where there is also a Fat Jacks BBQ, and a 5 Guys Burger.) It's in the "good" part of Audubon, oxymoron. I was messing around last night on www.deadmalls.com to plan ahead for my Texas trip, and I stumbled across the link to my local mall, , one mile away, the Shore Mall, in Egg Harbor Township. And , would'nt you know, of all things, it said "Coming soon, 2008 , Golden Corral". (new contruction supposed to begin shortly)
