Steamed cheeseburgers for Connecticut? That's a one-town thing, and outside of that town practically no one in Connecticut has ever heard of the thing.

For Delaware I'll suggest the sausage sandwich from Helen's Famous Sausage House.  They use local Kirby and Holloway sausages.  I wouldn't say the sausage sandwich is a widespread Delaware thing but Helen's does have some renown and in a small state like Delaware, isn't that far from anywhere else.

barely hints at how juicy and flavorful this sandwich is.

I had to go to a waste of time meeting in Dover and the only redeeming value was a stop at Helen's on the way back.  I included a photo of one in my weekly management report.

As a western Pennsylvanian, it pains me to admit this, but cheesesteak should be the choice for Pennsylvania.  I enjoy a Primanti's style sandwich as much as the next yinzer, but it's not in the same class as a top notch Philly cheesesteak in taste or popularity.

It pains me to say that the Pastrami on Rye has not been the definitive sandwich of "eastern NY" in decades. I agree at one point many moons ago it was but that's no longer the case...
The Banh Mi or Torta is probably more contemporarily accurate.

The only problem with the dynamite is that no one outside of Woonsocket knows what it is. If there is one for Rhode Island at all it would likely have to be the Italian Grinder-

You are right it is unique- but I'd have to put it in the same category as the Connecticut Steamed Cheeseburger as both are relegated to a small corner of the state.

Dale you are probably right about being more contemporarily accurate, however you ask almost anyone on the streets outside of NY and ask them this question and most of them will talk about the NY Delis.

Well, when I go to New York, I look for a great deli sandwich.  My children, who are younger than you, love NY deli sandwiches!

I agree the tourists still do.....the locals haven't done so in decades...
They look for  Banh mi and tortas.... That's why there are only like 3 or 4  jewish deli's left in NY versus several hundred, decades ago.

I'm a NY native, you think I would know about where I grew up , lived and regularly visit....
 
Finding Jewish Deli in NYC is no different than seeking hotdish and swedish meatballs in Minneapolis- St Paul.... (or baked beans- brown bread and cod cakes in Boston)
I'm all for regional food (contemporary or old school)
I've been playing devils advocate on these points for year- you know that!
BTW this one's for you.

What you don't understand about hotdish and Swedish meatballs in Minnesota is that it is not tradition carrying on but a humorous inside joke partaken by a generation running those restaurants and food trucks that grew up on and knew nothing but chain and fast food. They are still rarer than your Jewish deli sandwich in New York and there are probably more places in the Twin Cities that serves a Jewish deli sandwich than hotdish. I just crossed northern Minnesota from Voyageurs National Park to Ely to Duluth and saw not a single tater tot in four restaurants. But I did have a great local caught fresh baked Herring sandwich in Knife River.
 
I say all that and guess what? A new restaurant is going to open up in our town of Excelsior and look what is on the menu.  Tater Tots!
 
And to think, Tater Tots date back only to 1952 created by an Oregon company.
