What kind of change Wed, 07/30/08 8:02 PM (permalink)
Can someone please tell me how much and what kind of change to start with at the beginning of the day. I am about to start up my cart, and do not known
how much or what denominations to have. Hear is my price list.
Hot dogs 1.50
chips .50
Soda .75
how many 10's,5's,1's and quarters
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance
Pete

Take some fives,a bunch of ones, and a bunch of Quarters and you'll be fine. Always break the change issue down to the lowest common denominator. In your case it's Quarters. After a few days, balance it out. You'll have people give you Ten's & Twenty's so you'll have them for later customers. DON'T TAKE ANYTHING LARGER THAN A TWENTY!! Better to give away a hot dog than to get stiffed with a bogus big bill!

                              Pete,

dont worry about it, most every topic ends up going totally off topic like this.

I would take at least 30 in quarters, 50 in $1, 70 in $5 total $150 to start and adjust up or down from there as business dictates.

                              best of luck to you.

At $100 per day in sales, I bank $190. $40 in twenties, $50 in tens, $50 in fives, and $50 in singles....Quarters I try to keep about $10+ a day and I buy extras each night to keep the till at a proper level. The high powered guys may keep more but at that level I only have to stop at the bank once a week to make adjustments.

i start with $100 per day. $10 in quarters, about $50 in 5's and rest in dollars.

then @ end of day, i will pull out $100 and the rest is my sales pretty much. quite simple.

With my business I like to keep things simple and convenient. That being said all my prices end in even amounts. My highest cost item is $3.00 and my lowest cost is $1.00. When I start the day I bring $40 in fives, $20 in toonies (a toonie is a two-dollar coin in Canada), and $10 in dollars. That totals $70 in float and has worked for me since I started business.
