What to get at Ruby Tuesdays Thu, 09/27/07 6:32 PM (permalink)
I will be staying near the Philly Airport and the only restaurant near my hotel is a Ruby Tuesday. Aside from bellying up to the bar for drinks, does anyone have some suggestions as to what I should order? The burgers used to be good. Is that still true? Any other options (this will be late at night, so I don't think the salad bar will be an option)

thanks!

I stopped at RT's this evening with the son and daughter while on the run around town. My son swears by the prime burger..cooked medium. I ordered the fresh guacamole and pico off the apps menu. Decent guac..not great but it was fresh. Needed some heat and a few beers to be great. Daughter ordered the buffalo chicken burger. Said the buffalo sauce wasn't spicy enough for her.

RT's is really hit or miss but this particular location always seems to be pretty good.

Scorereader, if you have't previously tried their mini-burgers, I think they're a pretty credible effort. They load them up well w/ toppings (including an onion ring on each) and you can add mustard or ketchup depending on which camp you're in. And, yes, the salad bar is usually above average at the ones I've been to (if as you say it isn't too late at night). They are currently running a apecial where you get the salad bar thrown in for free w/ the triple prime burger.
Let us all know how it works out for you.

I wish I was. I'm not able to drive into Philly for a cheesesteak
I'm there for a marchign band contest in Jersey. I'll be done about 10pm and it's 35-40 mionutes back to the hotel. So, late dinner within walking distance of my hotel is a requirement. I want a few drinks and I refuse to drive after a couple.

The Burgers will be your best bet. They sell the best in my opinion.

Their burgers are super but pricey. The salad bar is super.

We were just at our local Ruby Tuesdays last nite. We had a self-admitted new server. I ordered the triple prime w/free salad bar. It's only $9.99. But when the food came, a sirloin with broccoli was placed in front of me and of course I said this is a mistake. Well turns out the server put in the wrong code and I was offered the sirloin for the price of the burger. Great deal since I had a $5 gift card that brought us there anyway. The sirloin regular price was $16.99.

It was a good juicy steak, cooked abit much for me, I had ordered the burger medium and the steak looked to be medium well. Broccoli was fresh and a good sized baked potato.

Their potstickers are really good for a chain.
I also like their Baby Back ribs.....
Also, the Southwestern "eg rolls" are pretty tasty ....

I'm sorry. I didn't make myself clar. I'd say the same thing about any salad bar or buffet, not just Ruby Tuesdays

Salad bars and buffets aren't my favorite either....especially after I saw a kid put some dressing on his salad, put the spoon in his mouth to lick it off and then place it back into the dressing for the next victim.

thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately, my hotel was switched last minute and I was no where near the Ruby Tuesdays, which made me nervous since the only place within walking distance of my hotel was a couple local townie bars that only served fried pub grub. Luckily, the boosters of the host school where I was working provided us with a nice home-made dinner and it was very nice. I did end up having a few cocktails at the townie bar before hitting the sack.

You won't go near a salad bar - don't you think that even in the kitchen that what you might have ordered had been snotted on, dropped on the floor, picked up and resused or handled by unclean hands? At least at a salad bar you can see the servers pouring bags of food into the containers.

If we stopped and thought about what really goes on in some restaurant kitchens we would never eat out.

I do not eat from pig troughs, be they the cold variety called salad bars or the hot variety known mostly as buffets.

The quality of Ruby's seems to vary widely from place to place. There is one near us which is uniformly horrible, yet I have been to others where they are much better. My wife's parents live near one in Florida, and when we visit, they like to go there. At that particular one, everything is pretty good.

There is one near us which is uniformly horrible, yet I have been to others where they are much better. My wife's parents live near one in Florida, and when we visit, they like to go there. I think you're right on the money. Have stopped at RT's in both Savannah and Atlanta areas and found their service and menus very substandard to the ones we have near here. I suspect that's due to the differing standards of their franchisees in different parts of the country.
Seemingly, you take any good/successful restaurant concept and franchise it and it will go downhill over a quick period of time--unless the original owner personally travels around to the units the way Harlan Sanders used to do in the early days of KFC.
