What was your Summer vacation this year?

Did you have one?
Mine was 10 days in Palm Desert in August, 108-112 degrees, I love it, as long as I'm next to a pool! 10 days in the Desert followed by 5 in Beverly Hills. I need my California fix, yearly!

We had so much going on this summer we're having to settle for a fall foliage vacation next month - three days in Stowe, VT, three in Montreal and three in Marblehead, MA.  Looking forward to it, I've never been to any of the three.

Nope. No summer vacation here, but since they changed the kids schedule at school we get to go to Hatteras in a couple of weeks! Can't wait to hit the pier for some fishing and the restaurants in Avon for some great food.

Roz and I are flying into Portland ME and driving up to Boothbay ME for some lobstah and other lobstah goodies.  Do some shopping, leaf peeping and some birding and visit a yacht mfg that builds some very very expensive sailboats that are 90 feet plus.  Charles wrote about his stay in Boothbay and got my curiosity in gear.  Leaving in two weeks.  I guess you call that a fall vacay?

Getting my son ready for his freshman year in college took up all of our vacation time & extra cash. We always vacation on NC's Outer Banks and look forward to returning next summer.

I did 15 days (June 26 to July 10) in Tahoe visiting my best friend, including an overnight trip down to Santa Cruz to see a show. I, too, need my yearly California fix!

Paris.  I ate and ate and walked and walked.  Best place in the world for both activities.  The Princess hit the Soldes hard; they only happen twice a year by law and are HUGE by U.S. standards.  What she "saves" there more than pays for the trip.  Next time I'm thinking of bringing back a suitcase full of scarves and neckties and starting an e-bay business.  And, France even returns the tax you paid there while shopping.

We didn't really have a "summer vacation," but I guess we sort of came close. We went to Gettysburg, and then to a barbeque place in Maryland that was mediocre, except for the Jack Daniels Single Barrel Select. On the way back we stopped at the Flight 93 Memorial and had lunch at the Summit Diner in Somerset. From there we went to Pittsburgh and dinner at Wintzell's with Mariton and buffetbuster. The next day we stopped at Wholey's for fish sandwiches with my grandson before heading home.

Our roadtripping has be curtailed a lot this year, but we were able to get in a 3 day Hog Hunt in Missouri at the end of July. That did a lot to fill our new freezer for Fall and winter. Now to get ready for a Bison Hunt in January.  We hope to do a Fall weekend in Ohio's Amish country before the winter slows us down again.

I have a craving for a SoCal fix too, but have to put it on hold til we have the resources for a drive-out.

No real vacation this summer! My one niece got married at the end of June and my nephew is getting married in early October. So finances just wouldn't allow!

My wife and I had a wonderful vacation to Macinac Island, MI in early August that I'm still reflecting on.  What a wonderful place and felt like a true getaway.
1st full week in October we're going to Edisto Island, near Charleston, SC for a week and looking forward to that.
    See ya!

My summer vacation was taken in January when it's cooler.  North Texas.

We experienced 20+º to 60+º rather than the 100º or higher summer weather.

No fleas or mosquitoes that way, either.

Spent a week at a beautiful cabin in the woods here in Pa with my wife and kids and another family. Nice pond for swimming and fishing kept the kids happy. I enjoyed just kickin back and relaxing with family and good friends. Hope to do it again soon.

    What's a summer vacation?

We have been on the road most of the time since March 1. First all over Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana, then all of the Midwest, then Virginia, Gettysburg and an obscure BBQ place in Maryland and now I am writing this in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. Who knows where next.

Indy used to be an annual mandatory vacation when I was a working stiff. Now that I am retired we average over 20,000 miles per year mostly on the two lane blue highways and seldom stay in one place much more than a day or two but just spent four nights in the Capitol Reef National Park Fruita Campground next to a pick your own apple orchard populated by over two dozen mule deer. On this current trip we even overnighted in a Dodge City, Kansas Walmart parking lot. After we break from Bryce Canyon we are going to head up to the Great Salt Lake, Flaming Gorge and the Black Hills heading home weather permitting. It got down to 24 degrees last night and predicted 32 degrees tonight. To me that is great sleeping weather. We don't turn on any heat until we get up. Average camping cost in national parks and forests is under $10 per night.

This morning we got up and headed out before sunrise and stopped at the Kiva Koffeehouse on America's Highway 12 overlooking Staircase Escalante National Monument. This was our fourth visit since 1998. It is a unique earth sheltered building held up with nearly 3 feet in diameter Ponderosa Pine columns and is encased in a rock outcropping. I don't know if wanderingjew even knows about this place.

I didn't visit the coffe house, but we have spent a lot of time on Utah 12 and the Backroads between Capitol Reef NP and Lake Powell and the western side of Canyonlands.  it is a thrilling area to visit and explore. I would love to return to the Utah Scenic Tour, even after many visits and a lot of driving time, we could never get enough of it.

No summer vacation  but I'm getting ready to leave on the second of my semi-annual  Carolina roadtrips for the year ( generally May and October ). Looking forward to meals at the Beacon in SC and the Ridgewood in TN, although visiting the Beacon sure won't be the same anymore without J. C. Strobel there to call out my order.

I live on a barrier island off New Jersey that is the vacation destination for thousands of people.  I am retired.  What more vacation do I need?
None the less Ms. OC and I have spent a few days in Annapolis and a few in Lancaster County.

In August, I spent 5 days in Rochester NY with 1 day allotted for Niagara Falls.  It was wonderful, the weather alone was worth the trip, mild days and cool nights.  We went for a wedding, but some highlights included lunch at Dinosaur BBQ and visits to the George Eastman House, Mt. Hope Cemetery, Rochester Public Market, and yeah -  Wegmann's, another wonder besides Niagara Falls.

No summer vacation for me for the last two years.

I visited with Carolina Bob last year in October; was gone for 48 hours.  Then I saw him again one month later in another part of Indiana.  Was gone about 10 hours.  Since then I haven't left town.  Taking care of aging parents has eaten up all my time of late.  I'll be gone next spring though; I have to promote some books I've written.
