What will you be handing out for Halloween?

What will you be handing out for Halloween?

In the past I have always put those halloween "treat bags" together.

In the bags I'd typically put in one larger item such as wax lips, bubblegum cigar, Razzles, Blow-pop, etc, and then include a few Pixie-Stix, some Bottle-Caps and then fill out the bag with a combination of things like Smarties, Rootbeer Barrels, Bats, miniature boxes of Milk Duds or Good & Plenty or Sugar Babies, etc.
I'd also keep a bunch of popcorn balls as back-up (parents like them as they're waling around too.)

This year I won't be handing out candy that evening ... but I had intended to see if the british candy called Allsorts came in small bags ... particularly the red-licorice Allsorts ... but knew early I wouldn't be home.

In the late 1970's the one time my great aunt decided to observe halloween she handed out unshelled walnuts.
She couldn't understand what we found so humorous about it.
My cousin said that many of the trick-or-treaters reacted rather confused.

MMmmmmm I looooove the red allsorts .. only one of our Brit stores carries it .. in small bags .. but for $2.29. I crave the little bumpy jellied ones (non pareils) ... we use to get huge bags of Bassett's Strawberry Licorice at Albertsons but they quit making it

If you really want to screw with the kids minds put a popcorn ball in their bag. The best was the lady who handed out full size Butter Finger bars, we use to make at least three rounds to that house.
I guess the norm now a day's is the miniature candy bars.

Nothing, unfortunately I live in an apartment block. I wish I could hand out candy though. I like seeing all of the kids in their costumes.

Too funny- we did the same thing at our house! My dad hasn't retired yet though. My mom said it always looked bad if a dentist gives out candy. Sometimes they would give sugarless gum or chips as well as the toothbrush.

I will probably go with the old faithful, tootsie rolls, or smarties. I still remember as a kid getting real carmel apples, oranges, and butterscotch popcorn balls! Homemade stuff. It was fantastic. I love Halloween. I can still remember the smell of popcorn and butterscotch in the neighborhood. Too bad you do not run into that anymore. Everyone terrified of some type of tampering.

    Hello All,
I live in a semi-village/country area, and my house is a distance from the highway,
so we never get trick-or-treaters. But we still buy candy, just in case.
Mini-Baby Ruths, Mini-Milky Ways, and little boxes of Hot Tamales.
What I would like to give out is homemade Red Candied Apples and Pop
    cornballs.
When I was a kid, Halloween was fun, a time to find a costume, be different
and get candy, which usually lasted 3 weeks or more as a treat.
It was a wonderful rite of autumn, full of lore and a blending of sweetness
    and harvest.
Now, my area is in the middle of turning from being rural to being metro.
Trick-or-treating is discouraged, and turned over to malls, city-celebrations,
and local government sponsored events, which truly allows neither tricks or treats. My mind understands it, but my heart is so saddened
that people need their lives so supervised.
Maybe I'll make some popcornballs for the heck of it.
    Take Care,
    Fieldthistle

When they say "Trick or treat.." I will reach into the bag and say "Thanks"

I really don't care to be stuck with leftover Halloween candy. So I don't buy any. Heck, I still have a box of Whitman's chocolates from last Christmas which still remains unopened.

My neighborhood has many kids, so I hope to see plenty of trick and treaters as I do have something that is a safe treat.
I give them my leftover Mardi Gras beads... I have a giant bag from the Zulu parade filled with them.
It befuddles them at first, as it isn't what they expect, but it does provide instant enjoyment and they will put them on immediately and walk off happy.

My husband and I love Halloween.Even though we were never able to have children, we decorate to the hilt. And he insists on giving out FULL SIZE candy bars. His theory on that stems from his childhood-the guy who gives out big candy bars will never get messed with by the neighborhood kids.Kind of a protection.Plus we love seeing all the kids in their costumes.

This year I decided to give out something different than my usual miniature Snickers, Kit Kat, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Nestle Crunch, etc. I found Gummy Bones and Gummy Spiders at Wal-Mart and have added Palmer Creepy Peepers (chocolate coated caramel or peanut butter balls wrapped to look like eyeballs). It will be interesting to see the reaction of the kids (and the parents that come with them).

Every year my girlfriend's neighbor gives out juiceboxes, and from what I understand it is very popular with both parents and kids who are ready for a beverage on their long walk. A neat idea.

In your area...are you allowed to give out any "uncommercial" products? Around here...everyone is told not to eat them. I always loved popcorn balls when I was growing up.

I luv popcorn balls too kaylinda.

It's not against the law in our area but I think most parents won't allow their children to eat things not commercially wrapped.

Some years ago we made homemade peanut brittle to hand out and what we did was put one of those little return address labels that we had printed with "Happy All Hallows Eve" and my street address on each bag.

Popcorn balls are available from stores individually sealed/wrapped ... you might ask if a bulk store can get you a deal on them. (they are kinda expensive from many grocery stores)

We went to Walmart today and hubs spent about 20 bucks on halloween candy. He got themini snickers, reese's cups, butterfingers, paydays, etc. from a display at the front of the store. Then he went over to the regular candy aisle and got a humongous bag of tootsie rolls, which he said was "filler candy," whatever that means. I'm guessing, considering how many kids we usually get, that at least half of all that will be left over, and neither one of us eats commercial candy.

I doubt we'll be handing out anything this year since we are at the in-laws' place in a "gated community" which is technically 55 and over but this place is 75 and over! I don't see any of the seniors dressing up as ghosts and goblins and looking for candy. Maybe WE should dress up and go terrorize THEM!!!

Nothing, as not many kids in my neighborhood, and I am kinda out in the sticks.
However, I will take some mini candy bars to work in the basic plastic pumpkin, and leave them out on the bar for customers to grab.

We always buy all kinds of minitures. An average of 150 candy bars are given out by us on Halloween. It saddens me though when I look up and down the street as each year more of the neighbors turn off their lights and won't answer the door.

Like Fieldthistle we are in a semi-rural area where only a few kids wander around (during daylite hours), with Mom's watching carefully at each stop. We will have a couple of bags of mini-snickers or milky ways just in case, but the odds are that our total count will be zero to two at the most. The children in this area will load into parents mini-vans and head for town and the more densely populated developed areas to plunder, pillage, and loot.

I am afraid the days of home-made goodies wrapped in wax-paper or foil are gone.
