Nancy For my dinner choices I would have the Stuffed Shrimp Appetizer and the 3-Way Combo Basket with Scallops, Oysters, and Flounder. Skip the dessert, and Sweet Tea with a lotta Lemon for Beverage. OK, Here is a local place in the "Mayor's Domain" Joe Huber's Family Farm restaurant is part of a growing business that is changing a large family-owned farm operation into a Vineyard, Dairy/Ice Cream parlor, Restaurant Catering section, U-Pick orchards and veggie fields and a bunch of related operations run by the members (and in-laws) of the Huber Family. We like the restaurant a lot and take our visitors there frequently. For you So-Cal oldtimers, this place reminds me of Knott's Berry farm before the Theme Park invasion. Janet will usually go for the Strawberry/Spinach Salad (w/grilled chicken) And for me, if I can put off the Country Platter Feast, I will do the Chicken Liver and Fried Chicken combo. The fried Biscuits and homemade Apple Butter are "bottomless" thank heavens ! If we have guests during the summer, we will indulge in the Peach version of their large Ice Cream Sundae...All local products anf big enough for 4 or more people. And for you??? http://www.joehubers.com/images/stories/images/menu_restaurant.pdf

Greymo What they call a Fried Biscuit is a yeast roll deep-fried like a do-nut (but without the filling or sweetened 'crust'). Rip it open and slather the homemade Apple Butter on it and it is GREAT ! get them while they are Hot ! That's the Apple Butter in the squirt bottle in the photo. In this photo there are two baskets of the "Biscuits" on the left. Some have Powdered Sugar on them, TTM was busy photographing them. We were busy eating them!

I LOVE good fried chicken livers and would assume this place makes some good ones!! Sides - I'll take mashed potatos and gravy along with chicken and dumplings. Something else I can't resist if done well. Hmmm...I guess I'll have a salad for lunch the next day maybe.

Now, On to Whaley's! Sushi Nachos: Crispy won ton stacked with pan seared ahi grade tuna, asian tomato salsa, wasabi aioli and a ginger soy reduction ... I am a sucker for wasabi... Then: Steamed Pot: Mussels, clams, oysters, crab legs, shrimp, sweet corn and Kielbasa All it lacks for me are scallops, but I couldn't resist!

SHE definitely has the right idea about fantasy lunch league. :) I love that chicken & dumplings is a vegetable at Joe Hubers. I would probably either do that strawberry spinach salad with grilled chicken (yuuuum) or a vegetable plate. Limas, green beans, broccoli salad and I'd get the server to talk me into a fourth, because sometimes it'll surprise you what the thing you shouldn't miss is.

On to Hubers! Oh, DEFINITELY the Fried Green Tomatoes for my app. I bogged down at the rest of the menu until I saw the Blackberry Merlot. A few years ago on vacation in Colorado I tasted a Blackberry Cab that was so awesome I took home a case of it. So I let the Merlot influence the rest of my meal: Black Angus Rib-eye (cooked "Rare Medium Rare") w/the baked sweet potato & fried biscuits (No, the biscuits are not one of the side options, but this IS FantasyLand!) 2 glasses of wine with dinner & for dessert? The Blackberry Peach & Cherry Cobbler with one last glass of that Merlot! I'd finish with an espresso to go with the last bite or two of the cobbler.

Oh, And! The Dal Rae ~~ I had to drive down a side street to find it, and I'm glad I did! For my app, I'd have Steamed Littleneck Clams since they are pretty rare in DullAss. I'd follow with the Baby Mixed Greens & Fried Goat Cheese salad because I can't resist goat cheese & I've never had it FRIED. YUM. For my entree, I'd go with something I would NEVER eat in the Real World (veal) ~~ the Large Veal Chop w/Morel Mushroom Sauce, sided with mashed potatoes (to soak up every last bit of that sauce!) & Sauteed Spinach with Olive Oil & Garlic. CiaoMeOwwwwWOW!

The Dal Rae! I've always wanted to eat there. When I worked in my brother's vacuum shop the owner and her son used to come in. Several years later Loren, her son came in to my BBQ shop and he remembered me. Feel good moment! Very nice people. I'd definitely order the Lobster Thermadore.

Dal Rae: Love artichokes so start with artichoke hearts stuffed with crab For dinner I was trying to find something other than seafood, but if I am being honest, I would devour that lobster thermidor. Quite the extensive dessert menu. I don't normally order dessert, but I might have to do the chocoilate fantasy and split it with my betrothed, or not.

I am a sucker for those 'prepared at your table' things so I'd either have to get them to make me the Caesar or wilted salad, or go for the steak Diane. So this pepper sauce, just a peppercorn reduction thing? The lobster Thermidor looks crazy good but I'm mostly a lobster newbie. Is it really to die for?

Anyone feel like coming back to the Midwest? www.essenhaus.com/files/Dinner_Lunch_Menu.pdf Ok, in my world it is Thursday and I'm starting with the Cauliflower soup. Skip the salad (why in the world would an Amish restaurant offer a taco salad??) straight to the meatball stroganoff with a side of steamed cabbage. My poor wife. Nothing on the dessert menu jumps out at me so I am done.

For dessert, it'll be whatever slice of pie catches my fancy. Maybe I can talk my husband into taking next Wednesday off, so we can fulfill my fantasy. I'll tell him about the beef vegetable soup...

Oh joy! My computer kept going kerflooey when I opened this thread...? All seems well now. I couldn't get past the "Dock" menu! A dozen oysters! Conch fritters! Lobster bisque! And peel&eat shrimp for dessert.

At a diner, any diner, its always a reuben. Everything on it, nothing on the side. Why? Who knows. Thats what I've ordered here in NY for ages.

Ahi - that's a dessert right up my alley. F.O. - you might feel different if you lived your whole life in central Ohio. I do love a good reuben, though.

wow ... I'm surprised at all the prices, that's my biggest menu concern if my restaurant ever becomes a reality. I don't want to charge so much that the seats are empty, but I don't want to charge so little that you can't make a profit. I think a lot of people go out to eat and think they're in the grocery store. When I go out to eat I have 2 objectives - I'm either hungry and just want to eat something on the cheap, or I'm going out with friends and want to enjoy the food with friends in a nice atmosphere that isn't noisy. my favorite is prime rib ...

sk bob Wintemo1, I couldn't order anything at that place because all I got was a blank page. Nancypalooza, theres a lot to piss me off with that menu; pancakes $4or 6 ? french toast $5 0r 7? what the heck is that about? $8.75 for an omelette? it better be the size of a manhole cover. it might be good but not a place I'd eat at. not even the lunch menu looks good to me, although I do have pedestrian tastes in food, I would ask to look at a menu before I sat down and I would bow out. sk bob, You've just have gotten too acclimated to those South FL Early Bird Specials and the 2-fer's. Those prices are fairly normal in the "Outside World" We're not talkin' Denneys 2-4-6-8 Menu.
