hatteras
We got them at the Market District Giant Eagle in Upper Arlington.  One weekend last August they were roasting whole Hatch chiles outside and selling them in 1 lb. packages.  We came home, seeded and peeled them and I made packages that would be enough for 2 burgers.  I came up with about 10 pkgs.  We decided that would never get us through a whole year so we went back the next weekend for another pound!

Tonight was one of our ultimate comfort meals at our house....meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, soft yeast rolls.  Dessert?  homemade cherry pie, of course; my son's favorite.  Man, winter meals don't get much better than that.

Sorry, forgot to take pics.  Too busy eating.

My original intent was to heat up something from the freezer. Then I realized how many fresh vegetables I had that were gonna die if I didn't use them, so I defrosted some steak and we ended up with stir-fry. I didn't make rice because I had already made *way* more effort than I planned on. Broccoli, cauliflower, celery, red onion, white onion, red bell pepper.

By the way, this is an amazing sauce! If you can find some, I highly recommend it. I either use it as-is, or sometimes add more teriyaki or soy sauce, but usually as-is. I haven't tried their other sauces, but based on the Spicy Garlic Plus I'm assuming they're equally tasty.

Tonight I went all out. Pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, baked beans with brisket and collard greens. I know. I know. Lots of work. But I was up to it. I'd have taken pictures, but lleechef won't show me how to use her camera. I thought maybe the folks at City Barbeque would take pictures for me, but they said they just make it and sell it, so I should just grab the bag and take it home to eat it.

No, Campbell's has'nt started making it again.  I found a recipe that is very good.  The only change I made was to use less barley.  I cooked one cup, but added a bit at a time until it looked right.
It really tasted like the Scotch Broth I remember from the can.

I know! I got mine at Overland Meats when I was in Tahoe. Where luckily I go every year and can get more, but they don't sell it anywhere near here. Next year I'm buying three bottles, maybe more.

Chicken and rice casserole, a revamped recipe from the first cookbook I ever owned when I was a kid. And because it's kid food...frozen peas and carrots and corn. The chicken isn't burned, that's onion soup mix sprinkled over the top. It forms almost a glaze while it bakes.

No problem, mar.  It was also tossed with Parmigiana Reggiano.  You'll be happy to know those green flecks are parsley!!!    Hope your tooth stops hurting.

I spent an hour and a half at the dentist today, and I'm going back again tomorrow for another painful session. My whole face hurts!

Pass the linguini and the gelato please!

Gelato scares me at the moment.
So far, no pain but I haven't eaten anything.
That will change.

Lisa, had those been cilantro flecks I would have tilted my head and said... Are you kidding me?  There are some places it should never go.  I know you know better.

I hate/love to see the beautiful sandwiches, sub and otherwise, that seem to pour out of the East, coast and inland.

When it comes to that kind of great food, I live in the land of puny portions and careless assembly.

It was a day of pouring rain here in CA (I know, hard to believe!) so I couldn't go with Plan A, grilling some mahi mahi outside. Plan B was putting it in the broiler after coating with olive oil and seasonings. Here it is, with steamed Brussels sprouts and some leftover bacon mac and cheese from last night's dinner.

Dear pnwchef,

I was disappointed to learn from your post that an American culinary graduate and alleged longtime chef would not know that the fish Hawaiians call mahi mahi, and that Latin Americans call dorado is actually a dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus). Harding High would be spinning in its grave, if it had a grave. For that matter, so too would Porky and Central.

Occasionally we'll see opah or ono, but not very often. I mainly see those in restaurants. Thanks----I am enjoying the rain----we need it!
