I had Knorr Pasta Sides Chicken Broccoli doctored up with a 5 oz. can of Hormel chunk white & dark chicken, some frozen chopped broccoli, a little frozen pepper & onion, and a little shredded swiss cheese.  I also cooked some fresh parsnips that Wally World had.  (In case you are wondering, I normally eat just one meal a day.  I live alone, and splitting it up and eating more than one meal results in a refrigerator full of leftovers.)

Last night was Balsamic Roast Chicken http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/healthy-recipes/NU00366 (I also put a couple of shallots inside with the rosemary) with baby carrots (roasted with butter and Italian-Romano seasoning) and rice with peas and some of the drippings mixed in.

Tonight I'm pressed for time because I got out of work late, so we're having it again.

Tonight it will be two or three really awful hot dogs at the Gahanna Lincoln High School football game against Lancaster. The dogs will be worse than usual because the rain will make them even more soggy than is standard. But the hot chocolate, chalky as ever, will more than make up for everything. lleechef is in for a treat.

It's football tonight - grilling some Buffalo Shrimp & ABT's and whipping up some guacamole.  And that's it.
A roast is in the crock pot for lunch tomorrow.

The show fed us: prime rib, corn, green beans, Yorkshire pudding, and some kinda goofy stuffing muffin-type things with cranberries and walnuts.

It was way overdue...

My taste buds were severely out of calibration...

So I drove down to Willits (CA) and ate at Taquaria Bravo last night...

I always tip them, and they know what I want as soon as I walk through the door...

Their fresh fried chips are always thin and crunchy...the salsa rojas is dominated by jalapeno & cumino, and the guacamole based salsa verde is something I really look forward to...

My plate of 3 carne asada soft tacos was served muy rapido...I was the only person there when I walked in...and as usual the meat was hot, juicy, and flavorful (just like a good girlfriend)...washed down with Mexican Cokes...

The place was half full when I left...

It's a 68 mile round trip, but I'd gladly do it every day IF it was financially feasable...

As it is I try to eat there several times a month...

Or whenever my tastebuds need calibration...

Yummy...

Dinner tonight will be a super burger on the grill with Kinders bbq sauce...

Grill is almost ready - Petit Sirloins - finally cooled down enough outside to fire up the gas oven inside for real baked potatoes.  Steamed some Gulf Shrimp I found at the market today and made a mixed green salad.  A bottle of Merlot is waiting...

I made the goofiest beef stew of my life. No potatoes, double meat, carrots, celery, onions and leeks. It didn't suck, but it was way weird without potatoes. There are days I hate this stupid carbohydrate restriction.

I'm making Kraft spaghetti out of a box, side of canned early June peas and cottage cheese. It's allergy hell season, I don't feel like cooking, and I can't breathe so it doesn't matter what I make since I can't taste it anyway.

I'm making Kraft spaghetti out of a box,

Interesting.  I have never heard of Kraft spaghetti in a box.  Must be a regional thing, but a product locator at the Kraft website tells me it is available at a Dollar General not too far away.
I wonder how many products we think of as common are unknown in other parts of the country.

I actually use the Kraft spaghetti in the box often. It comes with a spice packet, noodles and a package of parmesan cheese. You add either tomato paste w/water or tomato sauce. Kinda salty, so I throw a bit of extra water in, along with about a 1/2 lb of ground beef and mushrooms. Perfect for Bob and I!.

When I was a kid, we would have it as a special treat. Now it's my "I'm too lazy to bother" meal. It's really not bad.

Tonight, since I had to work at 6am and got pretty beat up while I was there, and I still feel like crap, I'm making Campbell's tomato soup with tuna sandwiches. Eventually I'll get back to actually cooking, but that day is not today.

Tonight I'll be cooking INDOORS...(damnit!)

A Golden Grain box of Garlic Alfredo with added chunks of bbq chicken thigh from my freezer...

I also planned on some sourdough garlic bread (comes from SF) but it had funny green spots on it (damnit!)...

Mexican Cocacola...

Horehound drops for dessert...

Just a Evergood Cajun Hot Link, split and the outside had crosshatch scoring...on an Oroweat wheat bun (they started in North Hollywood, CA) and topped while still on the grill with Kinders Mild bbq sauce, and bottle of Mexican Coke...

Simple but good...

Tonight is Lasagna

I am making a chicken, mushroom and spinach lasagna, garlic bread, salad, and for dessert fresh apple crisp made with the apples I got at the orchard today (along with 2 gallons of one of the best ciders I have tasted in a while, this season made perfect apple cider)  I got some breyers old fashioned vanilla bean ice cream to top the warm apple crisp.

It's the home opener for our AHL team, which means I have to be there three hours before the game. Luckily, it's also dollar beer and dollar dog night. Not that I can have a beer, but dinner will be a couple of hot dogs and some onion straws.

It's been very hot here the last couple of days.

So, although I boiled some water I didn't heat up the kitchen much.

Tuna salad with Green Goddess Dressing, lots of black pepper and I added some spice with some citrus barbecue rub.  Rubs have lots of interesting spices in them.   (Yes, including salt)

Kraft has brought back Green Goddess.  It's pretty good.  I found it first at Walmart and now our Ralph's (Krogers) has it.

I used to buy Bernstein's back in probably the '70s.

Crab-stuffed chicken breast with mixed vegetables and a salad. I omit the breading from the recipe and no one ever notices. I also bake the chicken at 400F for about 25 minutes, because I'm lazy and hate standing over the stove frying. Not that it isn't good fried, I just don't do it. It's healthier my way.

We just got back from a wake for a friend who lived in Scotland.

In his honor we had scones, clotted cream, seedless raspberry jam, assorted English pastries, diced melon to keep it healthy and hot tea to wash it down.

I'm not sure I want anything else.  It was rich!

Reheated Lasagna, fresh green beans from the garden (not mine) and garlic bread.

I've been working 70 plus hours a week since the beginning of August and finally got a break this weekend.  Put a Boston Butt on the grill at 11am and took it off at 8 tonight - it was fantastic - had some BBQ beans and slaw with it.

Having a glass of Merlot right now - life is very good.

Evergood cajun hot link on a Oroweat wheat bun, split and cross hatched on the outside...late dinner after 9:oo PM tonight...thousands of stars out tonight (I'm WAY out in the mountain boonies with zero "light pollution")...

Dinner was late because I had a late lunch...an old friend from Calistoga was up at the ranch today to help me, and I cooked him a super-burger topped with La Victoria green taco sauce...I didn't have enough large Oroweat hamburger buns, so I fashioned my hamburger meat into a "Longhorn" style that would fit on an Oroweat wheat hotdog / hoagie bun, also topped with L.V. green taco sauce...both had Kinders bbq sauce cooked in while grilling, the the green taco sauce went on just before serving...  and we ate lunch while overlooking the canyon, the fog, and looking towards the ocean (I can see it 17 miles to the west through a gap in the mountains of me)...

The traditional standby, the dish that every cook is judged by, or at least should be, so easy yet so many people screw up, a simple, yet elegant baked chicken

Tonight I added a can of corn and different spices to last night's soup.

I was cold, and cranky, and tired, and lazy. So I had a huge bowl of Lucky Charms and an even bigger glass of milk. Sometimes, that is exactly what I need.

CCJPO

The traditional standby, the dish that every cook is judged by, or at least should be, so easy yet so many people screw up, a simple, yet elegant baked chicken

Both chicken and eggs have 1 thing in common (besides the obvious):  They're easy to screw up, usually by too many / too much spice(s)

Ah...one of my favorites:  Tri Tip

With the left and right burners ON, and the middle burner OFF, on my gas grill, it takes about an hour for this 1.7 pound hunk-o-meat...

I was wondering what to do with the rest of the bottle of spikey haired Guy (Fierri) bbq sauce...so why not dump it on the Tri Tip just before taking it off the grill...

YUMMY...!!!  Still a hint of pink inside, lots of juice, tender, and pulls like an accordian...

With the burners on low it cooked at 275* for 50 minutes, and then I turned the burners up on high for a bit less than 10 minutes at 400*...sauce went on about 4 to 5 minutes to go...internal temp 165*...let it rest 15 minutes...

I must confess that having the burners on low was a mistake...purely unintentional...but I "let it ride" after looking at the built in grill thermometer and seeing it was 275*...& it worked out to be one of the best Tri-Tips I've cooked in a while. The meat was frozen, but slow thawed before cooking...

There were NO leftovers...
