What's For DINNER ...???

Felix, where are you vacationing?  I love a hot dog roasted on a stick over an open flame.  It's been years.

Did you get the "gargantuan" size?  How were they?  The description is quite appealing.

I'm doing breakfast for dinner tonight. Home fries with onion and peppers, bacon, toast, and maybe a couple pancakes.

Brad, my brother did the ordering after we chose our dish.
 
He did order gargantuan which was a salad bowl size of pasta. 
 
I'm not a fan of family style dining (trough) but this seemed to work out well.  There were ten of us and 4 gargantuan bowls of pasta were ordered along with two large salads.  There was still food left in all of the bowls when we were finished.
 
My choice was quite delicious.  Large minced clams (not out of a can) as well as clams in their shell.  The others ordered Spaghetti Bolognese, Fettuccine Alfredo and the penne pasta of the day which was also seafood with an Arabiata sauce.
 
All were very good.
 
The problem of the night was the parking.  This restaurant is located at the beach where parking is difficult on a good day.  If you could find a meter you'd pay $2 for an hour.  Of course they're not to be found.
 
Reservations were for 6:00PM.  My brother and his brood got there early and chose the restaurant valet parking.  He saw me driving up at five minutes to six and called me to tell me to just use the beach parking which was the same price and a larger lot.  It took me ten minutes to drive the maybe fifty feet to the parking.
 
I paid $6 to park which took another fifteen minutes of finding an empty space.
 
When we finally arrived at the restaurant my brother said... can you believe they're getting $15 to park?
 
WHAT?  I said that I only paid $6. 
 
After he checked it out it kind of ruined his dining experience.  Seems that before 6PM the parking is $15 and after it's $6.
 
Next time we eat at 6:15PM!                                                                   
 
 

Heck, I paid $25 to park at a Pirates ball game.

My favorite butcher shop had ground round for $2.98 lb. this week so I loaded up.  Tonight was hamburger steaks, crash potatoes and a salad.

Friends were talking about Arby's and not having one near here we sought out the closest.
 
Ordered the #9 which was Angus Philly Steak Sandwiches served with curly fries.
 
On the sandwich was meat that looked and tasted like meat, white cheese (provalone?) grilled peppers and onions. 
 
It probably tasted good as is but I loaded it up with Horsey sauce and Arby's sauce.
 
The curly fries were also good.  Coated with something and perfectly crisp.  I took turns dipping in their honey mustard, spicy sauce and eating them as is.
 
Is it wrong that I really liked it?
 
 

Hell, no, Mar. When I am tired of cooking, give me some Arby's.

It's wonderful, Mar! I'm definitely coming back.
 
Tonight we kinda let the kids win. Cheesy hashbrown Hamburger Helper, with red and green grapes on the side. It's been off and on raining, so a fire wasn't practical.

Sharon dislikes Denny's and we both dislike Carroll's or whatever that other place is where you eat.

We eat there at least once every 2 weeks!  Food is well prepared, hot, fresh and you get a big portion for your money!
Never once in all the years of eating there have we had a bad meal!  The place we will NEVER, EVER go back to is Applebees!  Absoultely one of the worst places EVER!

I think they're kind of the same.  We tried Coco's and it was just awful.  Could have been what we ordered, but it was so bad it doesn't get another visit from us.
 
Instead of dinner tonight we bought a kayak.

I threw together dinner tonight, and it came out pretty darn tasty! Some zucchini, some summer squash, all four colours of bell peppers, and a couple of pounds of smoked sausage. Add in some packaged rice, and we were happy.

We're going to float around the Marina and Lake Arrowhead.  Maybe at my Mom's fake lake in Rancho Mirage.

Last night lleechef made lamb couscous, a dish she'd not made since leaving France nearly 30 years ago. I cannot begin to tell you how glad I am that she decided to make it again. It was magnificent.
 
The stew is made with chunks of browned lamb shoulder, peppers, carrots, eggplant, turnips, zucchini and chickpeas. It is seasoned with a Moroccan spice called ras el hanout, harissa and tomato paste.
 
The stew is served with steamed couscous and merguez, which is a Moroccan lamb sausage. With dinner we had a rose' from Provence.
 
I can't wait for her to make it again, and she'd better not wait another 30 years.

We had Albondigas that I made earlier today.
Doesn't matter the weather, I always love a good bowl of soup.

I wasn't very hungry tonight, so I had just some popcorn and a peach. 

OK, so it was yesterday. But we stopped at this fabulous little diner in Bear Lake, MI on our way home from the cabin and had breakfast for dinner. Could NOT have been more Roadfood-ish! We ended up sitting with two complete strangers (a woman and her mother) because the place was packed, our plates were equally packed, the food was definitely amazing, and the coffee didn't stop coming until I physically prevented our waitress from refilling my cup. Pancakes, eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, ham, American fries (or hash browns) and biscuits and gravy (homemade gravy). We had to waddle out the door, and it was fabulous.

I had more soup.

I'm home from work this afternoon, so there will be time between doing office and paperwork to do some slow grilling.  Tonight's supper is St Louis style pork steaks, slow cooked over charcoal, corn on the cob, and marinated cucumbers and tomatoes.  Dessert is watermelon.  Good summer eats!

Sounds good, grillman. :)  Chili dogs and homemade vanilla cream pie here.

Chicken tenders marinated overnight in spices and Soy sauce, Spanish rice and Re-fried beans!  Oh yeahhhhhh
 

I read on Facebook about a place not far from home that I've driven past for at least 30 years... without ever stopping.
 
I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak from a place called Submariners.
 
Not typical with lettuce and tomato added, but it sure was good:
 

I had a couple pounds of razor clams in the freezer, made chowder, corn on the cob & a NY steak on the grill.

I threw together a cheesy crab casserole with peas.
 

Creamy balsamic chicken breasts, green beans with almonds, and frozen peas and carrots.

I'll be going back and the next time I'm probably going to order the spaghetti and meatballs.  I saw an order and it looked fabulous.

Broasted chicken from the Moose Lodge!

As it is Bob and my 33rd anniversary, we ordered from our favorite pizza place- cracker thin crust pepperoni pizza, an order of their lasagna( very different from others-just noodles, sauce, and cheese with Italian sausage stuffed in between) and garlic bread.......then he left me to go draft his fantasy football team with his cousins. Whew, now I can relax and quit being sweet.

Went shopping and spotted a new, unheard of Mexican restaurant.
 
Mole is not supposed to have cilantro over it.  I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas and asked if it had any cilantro on it.  I was told no.
 
It was inside.

I dont know what they are.........  they are just called Spicy fries and are awesomely good!

I doctored up a cheap frozen pizza, because it's the first time I used the new oven and I didn't want to waste a bunch of time and money if something went horribly awry. Came out pretty darn good, for a dollar.

I love the word awry!
 
I just got home from the Culver City La Ballona Carnival.  Watched the Culver City cheerleaders do their thing, listened to live music and ate 3 pretty good carne asada tacos.
 
Then I had a cup of Lappert's Maui Pie Ice Cream.  Hawaiian Ice Cream has come to Culver City!
 
It's excellent ice cream;  both rich in flavor and very creamy. 
 
The last time I had Lappert's was in Oahu.

My mouth just started uncontrollably watering. Last time I had Lappert's I was in Honolulu. 

We had a really good but hot and spicy dinner tonight!
Cut up some white potatoes into small cubes.....  fry them up with some chorizo, onions and jalapenos and then add cut up pieces of Hot Italian sausage, simmer and then serve with melted shredded cheddar!!  OMG is was SO good!
 

That needed a couple of eggs on top.

Went to the fish monger, got 4 Dungeness Crabs to go with the Corn on the cob, potato salad, green salad & sourdough baguette.  I'm full.

Chef, I want what you had.  Love Dungeness Crab.
 
Greg... Chorizo AND Italian Sausage?  I'm getting heartburn thinking about it.
 
 

On one of the recent Man vs Food shows Adam visited a place where one of the challenges was to eat a 4lb. plate of the same and of coarse he did.
The recipe looked So inviting I had to try it!  
It was HOT and it was SPICY but it sure tasted good!  

Well it had great ingredients.  I used to love Chorizo, but the last couple of times I didn't like it much.  My tastes are a changing.

Roasted thick-cut boneless pork chops (with Rustic Tuscan seasoning), baby red potatoes with garlic and parsley, and cauliflower with cheese sauce.
 

 
I think the new oven and I are going to become great friends. 

Sometimes you gamble and win, other times you gamble and lose. Tried a new recipe for cod, and it was perfectly horrible. At least I had plenty of leftover potatoes!
 

Perfectly horrible?  What about it didn't you like?
 
I have no plans, yet.  I have to stop thinking about food!
