 I would have made the 250 mile trip to the Washington Coast with a Beefsteak tomato. The only thing I'm not sure of is, would you have shared this sandwich ????????????  Looks great Craig........................

Lamb Burgers grilled, topped with Feta covered with melted Provolone ! Summer tomatoes sliced, topped with a drizzel of Italian dressing and sliced Mozzarella.

Dinner was leftover bacon-wrapped chicken, baked balsamic sweet onions, and some cottage cheese.

I went to the Los Angeles County Fair and had a bowl of gumbo from Harold and Belle's.  This is the first time I ever saw the Harold and Belle's truck.  It was great, made with a dark roux and loaded with smoked sausage, large shrimp and chicken wings.
 
I don't need dinner.
 
 

I ate very little today so when I arrived home I was scanning the freezer and pantry for something just right...  defrosted and grilled a NY Strip, boiled some Gulf Shrimp and stuffed a baked potato.  Just finishing the Cabernet that went with it.  It's hump day after all.....
 
Two more days - or 20 hours of work in hell - as I count down to the weekend which I'm going to thoroughly enjoy.  Lots of college football, adult beverages and great food.
 

Tonight I did a steak stir-fry over brown rice. I should remember to change my amounts when I open a new container of spices or herbs...the ginger was a bit overwhelming this time around, but whatever.

Tomorrow night is Lawry's.

Dinner last night was magnificent. lleechef pan fried a couple of small beef filets, then made a Bordelaise sauce by deglazing the pan with a terrific zinfandel, adding finely-diced shallots and mounted the sauce with butter. She then napped the medium rare filets with the sauce and served the beef with crab Imperial and a caprese salad.
 
Dinner tonight will probably be some hot dogs at the high school football game.

I would love to know her recipe, or at least her ideas, for the Crab Imperial.

I would gladly eat hot dogs the day after being able to have a dinner like that - just the description of the filets made my eyebrows arch and the Mmmmm thing get going.
Tonight we have hot wings on the grill and I'm about to make some shrimp quesadillas with roasted red onions & tomatoes and pepperjack cheese.

I had leftover bbq chicken and just finished a bowl of corn flakes with frozen blueberries for dessert.

I made some Asian-ish roasted chicken thighs with French green beans and sliced beets. But Photobucket has decided I don't want to upload the pictures.

In a bowl put 1 lb. lump or jumbo lump crabmeat.  To this add 1/2 red pepper, VERY finely diced, 1 T chopped flat-leaf parsley and a small handful of fresh breadcrumbs.  In another bowl combine 1 egg, 1 spoonful of mayo, 1-2 tsp. Old Bay, 2 dashes worcestershire, 2 dashes Tabasco.  Add to the crabmeat and combine very carefully so as not to break up the crabmeat.  Let rest in the refrigerator at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
I use this for crabcakes, shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and the other night I just put some into scallop shells and baked until browned.

Thanks for the recipe, Lisa.  Crab is one of my favorite things.  I'll definitely give your recipe a try, probably in scallop shells... because I have them.
 
We went to a family dinner last night at Lawry's.
 
Started out with the Lawry's Spun Salad:
 

 
And then had my choice of The Lawry Cut served with half and half creamed spinach and creamed corn.
 

 
The Lawry Prime Rib is always served with mashed potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding.  Some at the table opted for a baked potato and other shared braised mushrooms or asparagus served with Hollandaise Sauce.
 
Sharon who has always said that she didn't like prime rib changed her mind last night. 
 
Lawry's just does it right.
 
I love the mixture of thickly whipped cream, mixed with freshly shaved horseradish slathered over mine.
 
It was a wonderful evening of about 30 family members getting together because 2 from Florida were visiting. 
 
When dessert came there was no time for picture taking.  We shared a CC Brown's Hot Fudge Sunday.  It was not picture worthy although by the time I thought about it, it had already been eaten.  The vanilla ice cream was as soft as the whipped cream covering it.  The hot fudge was in a separate little (plastic) pitcher and it was the consistency of Hershey's Syrup.  Not what I remembered, but still quite tasty.
 
I think Lawry's holds the distinction of being the class act restaurant in the  Los Angeles / Beverly Hills area.
 

It's been a lot of years since I ate at Lawry's, but I sure remember their prime rib. Lucious! That looks wonderful.

Here was dinner tonight.................  Boneless pork ribs, Bratwurst and white rice.
 

Top sirloin was on sale today for $4.98 lb. - I had two cut 2" thick and put one in the freezer and marinated the other one in Stubb's beef marinade for about 8 hours.  Almost ready to come off the grill now - baked potato, salad and Cabernet waiting on it.

We had a neighborhood street fair today and I ate enough to not really want (or need) dinner.
 
Although, the idea of oatmeal has been running around my head.

I sure agree on the bloody prime rib -- never saw the allure of all that blood and raw meat.  But our local grocery store has it in their deli case for about 12.50 a pound, but on Sunday they have it on their hot bar, where everything is 5.49 per pound.  So that's where I am every Sunday, picking up a couple pounds.  Then home, and a little time in the frying pan, and it is some really good meat.

By rhe way, not blood. Lawrys serves a fine au jus.........

Exactly, Ann!  No blood on my plate and the meat wasn't as red as it looks in the picture.  It was hardly pink.
 
The Au Jus was wonderful and I loved soaking it up with the Yorkshire Pudding.

You guys don't know what your missing. That is a beautiful specimen of a prime rib dinner.

Mr. Hoffman-people obviously didnt "get" that the juice over the prime rib was au jus. Assumed it was a bloody piece of meat. How silly, huh?

Yes, very silly.

Very silly indeed, ann! Even I, who love rare steak (and especially rare prime rib), would blanch at a plate swimming with blood before I'd even cut into the meat.
 
Tonight I did leftover steak stir-fry. I cannot be bothered with cooking when there is football on!

I didn't just start visiting restaurants yesterday, and I've seen prime rib laying in  a pool of red, bloody something that looks unattractive in the extreme.  That's not au jus!  I don't mind if people want to eat raw meat -- I'll have mine well done, thanks.
 
 

I agree, but I know Mar.  She doesn't want the cow mooing at her when she cuts into it. lol  I believe hers was at least medium... nowhere near rare.

Well, from all the descriptions I would sure give the Lawry's version a try -- and request a piece off the end. 

Lunch yesterday was at the Vernon County(WI) Fair in the county seat of Viroqua.  That's the next county south of La Crosse, and is extremely rural, total county population 29 thousand something, and its only stoplights are in the county seat.  Big Amish population, clippety-clacking down the country roads, and some award winning small cheesemakers and butcher shops. And lefse! 
 
It was like stepping back in time; pretty good size carnival with the usual good stuff for kids, some interesting antique exhibits, and watch out for the cow flop outside the cow barn! 
 
It was great to see all the farm kids enjoying themselves.  You can always tell the farm kids by their work boots and attire, and also their capable and confident manner.  Farm kids learn hands-on about animals and tools from their toddler days.  This was the next generation, and it made us feel good to see them.
 
We watched a dog obedience judging with a bunch of kids showing off their pooches.  There wasn't so much obedience, but there was plenty of affection, and the kids were bashful and proud and self-conscious all at once.
 
Lunch was midwestern style sloppy joes at the 4-H tent, served up the kids, and dished up by the dads in the back.  We kind of went there for these, as you can't hardly find them on a menu, but they are always to be found at these events.  This was a real good, mom-type, version.  For some reason people up here call them barbecues, which of course they are not.  You have to ask, or maybe get surprised.

For dinner last night lleechef did stuffed eggplant with a filling of tomatoes, onions, garlic, basil, flat leaf parsley and ground lamb, all topped with mozzarella cheese and baked. Oh, and she made a caprese salad, too. (Gotta keep eating those till the good tomatoes run out.) Marvelous meal.

Tonight it's going to be one of his favorites: braised short ribs, mashed potatoes, sauteed zucchini.  AND I just bought a Panini Press!  Should be here in 2 days.

Usually I make this with asparagus or green pepper so it's not so overwhelmingly sunshine colours, but I didn't have any. So be it.
 

It wasnt blood, my friends! Lawrys serves excellent au jus-it wasnt blood.Their prime rib is awesome, and bloodless, as most good prime rib is served.
 

I got to cook for just me, so all restrictions were off! Totally forgot to take the bacon out of the freezer, but whatever. Accompanied by a glass of cranberry juice mixed with a bit of 7-Up. The eggs are made with sour cream, chives and cheddar, and the pancakes are from scratch.

I would argue that statement!  I have NEVER seen prime rib that was cooked bloodless unless it was totally scorched to death!

I TOTALLY cheated! Made them one at a time in a professional-grade nonstick skillet.

Dinner for us the last two nights has been not so good - Sunday night we decided we were tired of grilled meat and salad so we made Jambalaya - green onion sausage, chicken and shrimp -  it was soso - I'm not a big fan of it anyway but this was less than a little bit exciting. 
 
Last night we finally got the rain we've been waiting for and rather than fire up the grill we fixed double stuffed tacos.  They were okay but there was just something lacking there - perhaps I'm too critical because I can usually scarf down ANY kind of taco - but not last night. 
 
Tonight I decided to simplify things - a real oven baked potato with butter, sour cream and a small bit of bacon and sharp Cheddar cheese and a Caesar Salad.  And of course a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.
 
I'm - along with the spouse and the faithful puppy of almost 6 years now -  ready for bed. 

My hunger continued so I just prepared a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.  I ate half of it.

Thanks Mar - we're back on track now - tonight is Sante Fe grilled Pork chops, slow fried potatoes and a salad.  Tomorrow night is beef kabobs.

Last night was a recipe from one of my Weber cookbooks: grilled pork t-bones with a garlic & herb marinade.  Since I was cooking for myself I didn't bother with any side dishes.

Yesterday morning I found out a long-time friend died in his sleep. So dinner was comfort food at it's finest, followed by entirely too much alcohol. You'll have that. Shrimp and crab au gratin, steamed frozen peas on the side.
 

My condolences on the loss of your friend, Felix.  Was this one of his favorite meals?

Mr. or Mrs Hoffman-I have a great new caprese salad recipe made with fried artickokes. Interested? or anyone for that matter? Be glad to post it, or send it to anyone that is interested. It is awesome!
