For dinner tonight lleechef made panini with grilled eggplant, grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil. It was light, but filling, and delicious.

I had intentions of doing a BBQ meatloaf on the grill and doing some scalloped potatoes and a salad but the deer were out in the backyard eating corn and I decided not to disturb them by firing up the grill.   I think their food sources are getting scarce and they're visiting every night eating the 50 lbs of corn we're putting out there.

We had potted shrimp with flatbreads, and some Cheddar cheese, olives and grape tomatoes - and a glass of white wine - perfect for tonight.

The grill will be fired up tomorrow night though.

Somewhere in the middle of baking just over 15 dozen cookies and two loaves of bread, I managed to microwave the last of the chicken stir-fry with peas from t'other night.

I had another Usinger's Ring Bologna sandwich this time with a slice of American Cheese and a bunch of Cheese Crisps (Cheddar and Asiago) that I purchased at Costco.

Great crunch and a terrific sandwich.

Washed down with a Stewart's Key Lime Soda.

Noodles and meatballs.  Brown the meatballs and into the pressure cooker with stock.  Later add the egg noodles.  Yum!  My mom has been cooking this dinner for the family 50+ years.

Brought home beef teriyaki and rice from a place nearby because I'm having a Board meeting as I write.

It was cancelled.  Awful dinner.

I would have preferred meatballs and noodles.

At 12:45am, I finally found time to eat for the first time since lunch at 1:30. Handful of deli pastrami with a hunk of extra-sharp cheddar. And then I remembered I bought moon pies today, so I had one each chocolate and banana. Because I could.

Thanks to the snow I'm spending the day at home, so dinner will be some chicken drumsticks or a strip steak...or maybe both.  Shoveling builds up an appetite.

I'm 45 miles west of Chicago and we have just had rain and 50 degrees all day. But it's been dark and gloomy for about 5 days so I'm making chili to give us some comfort. Maybe jalapeno cornbread?

Apparently I am surrounded by a blizzard of epic proportions...schools are closed, churches have cancelled programs, we're being warned to stay off the roads...yet I look at my thermometer and it reads 45F, and it finally stopped raining about an hour ago. I can only assume the blizzard is everywhere but at my house.

Dinner was thrown together: smoked sausage, onions, red bell pepper strips, mushrooms, and black beans. Seasoned simply with a bit of garlic powder and some Olde Thompson's Orange and Lemon Pepper Seasoning.

Felix Navidad....Sounds great!  Stay warm and stay safe!

Greg...  Kraft Macaroni and Cheese

Regular or Deluxe?  I don't know.  They came shrink wrapped 6 together at Costco.

Delicious eaten as hot as can be, a little liquidy with a good sprinkling of cayenne.

It's one of my favorite meals.

The Deluxe comes with a packet of cheese sauce and doesn't require added milk or butter as opposed the Regular with the packet of cheese powder.

I watched the weather at 11:00 with bated breath...and learned that while many parts of the country and even parts of Michigan are getting hit with a huge ugly snowstorm, we're expecting a maximum of 1-3 inches overnight, and some wind. I'm not fussed.

Thank you for the information.  I made the powdered variety which I love just as is.

We get storm alerts and then maybe if we're lucky get 1/2 inch.

It was one of those days.  I had dessert first--homemade cookies and persimmon bread--then never bothered cooking.

I'm envious of all you folks who get snow!  I never see it in the SF Bay Area and miss it.

1/2 inch of what?  Rain?

We got about a foot or so of snow yesterday and shoveled the driveway twice, so I just phoned it in on the strip steaks...certainly not one of my better efforts but the bread machine gave us a fresh loaf of Dijon-thyme bread so supper was quite acceptable.  The drumsticks will be a late breakfast or early lunch tomorrow.

1/2 inch of rain.  They try to scare everyone with their Storm Alerts.

Tonight for a cold evening I made Chili with Rotini.

Looks good, but what exactly constitutes a "cold evening" in Marina del Rey?

LOL Screaming.  I don't know about SoCal, but it's been in the 30s at night in the SF Bay Area.  With the latest series of storms I'm making meatballs and tomato sauce.

Mar, that chili dish looks fantastic!

Thanks!  It needed salt.

It was in the 40s here this morning.  My condo wasn't built for the cold or the heat.  Either was I.

I'm waiting for the TV man so I'm not sure what dinner will be.

Mrs. Chicken will be pretty beat when she gets home after a day on the retail floor, so there's soup simmering on the stove and a bottle of wine in the fridge.  I did use a prepackaged soup mix (Bear Creek brand) but I added a couple of soup bones, a pound of stew meat, and an 8 oz. package of sliced mushrooms.

This stuff is great.  I bought it a couple of years ago in Solvang and never opened it.  It's in a tube like toothpaste.

I'm out of my Tobasco mustard and I thought the sandwich needed a kick.

Nailed it.

We stopped at Steak & Shake on our way from work to driving around looking at Christmas lights. Never get a bacon cheeseburger with everything on it if you're going to try to eat in the car in the dark.

Today was Christmas at my house, which we do potluck because it's mean to make one household cook for all of us. Baked ham, sour cream potato casserole, shrimp salad, stuffed mushrooms, bacon-wrapped shrimp, various cheeses with crackers, whitefish pate with crackers, relish tray (sweet and dill pickles, black and green olives, pepperoni and beef sticks), olive/carrot penguins, homemade candy tray (peanut butter fudge, my maternal grandma's caramels, chocolate-covered peanut butter balls, chocolate-covered cashews, butterscotch fudge), cookie tray (pumpkin spice with white chocolate chips, cream cheese walnut, old-fashioned molasses spice), Oreo truffles, cherry pie filling bread, my great-grandma's gingerbread, holiday punch (cranberry, pineapple, ginger ale...good with rum!), lemon meringue pie, and cherry pie.

They are! And my sister assured me they're ridiculously easy to make, too, which makes them even better.

I realized as I collapsed into my chair after everyone left that I took not one food picture today. Weird.

We also made the penguins for tomorrow nights appetizer Christmas Eve - we shaped a cheese ball into a skating rink and are going to put the penguins on and around it - (for the kids)

Then we're doing bacon wrapped asparagus - pork crostini -  mini phyllo shells with crab and artichokes - Gazpacho shooters with shrimp - mini Beef Wellingtons -  cheese, olive and marinated tomato skewers - mini crab cakes with Remoulade.  Roasted pecans and Amaretto cookies - Baklava and eggnog with spirits.

This year we're not doing the traditional turkey and dressing with all the trimmings for Christmas Day - instead it's going to be Bloody Marys and  brunch about 2pm - omelettes, bacon, hashbrowns, pancakes, fruit.

Christmas night -  Prime Rib - Duchess Potatoes - Salad - Merlot.

The weather is supposed to be frightful the day after Christmas so I'm thinking a pot of Chicken & Dumplings or Beef Stew would be good.

A skating rink!

I think I will make them. I have Laughing Cow triangles. Maybe a snowman or a snowball fight...if the snowman does not cooperate.

So they have to wear scarves...not tuxedos.

I'll try to make a green olive Grinch...with a pimento heart.

Tonight we're having the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes. Except, in an effort to cut down our national debt we're restricting it to one fish -- a humongous number of king crab legs.
