What's For LUNCH...???

The food looks great!

My friend makes a Filipino dish called Lumpia around the holidays. So good!
Gotta grab them early (and trip my Sister).They are beloved....and she only makes them once a year. Boooo!

There was an entire tray of lumpia.  They served them with the sweet chili sauce and they were delicious!

There's a parade today (it starts in front of my house) and I did not know...until I heard music & whips cracking. So...maybe olive loaf.

Funny!  There's a triathlon going on around here somewhere.  I saw the sawhorses out yesterday.  I'm skipping lunch.  Maybe dinner as well as the scale showed an additional 3 pounds!
 
I went back for another lumpia yesterday.
 
I was in error about the dessert being jackfruit.  It was cassava and delicious.  The jackfruit was one of the main dishes cooked in a coconut milk preparation.  (So-so)

Beverly Hills Affaire In The Gardens Art Show

I somehow forgot my camera so no pictures were taken.
 
I was looking for a truck that I saw there last year after we had already had lunch at a brick and mortar place.
 
It was there! 
 
Ironically they had been featured on the television show The Sharks the night before so I had to wait in a line that took thirty minutes to inch up to the window...
 
Cousins Maine Lobster
 
When they were financed on The Shark show where they wanted money for another truck I said to Sharon...  I bet the now get a store front restaurant.
 
So...  the choices for Lobster Rolls were Maine that was served cold with a drizzling of butter and mayonnaise or Connecticut which was served warm just drizzled with butter.  I chose the Connecticut.
 
The rolls and lobster are flown in daily from Maine to be authentic.  The spit top rolls were grilled in butter and nicely stuffed with lobster pieces.
 
This was my first ever lobster roll.  I don't know what I was expecting.  I really liked it, but I wasn't WOWed by it.
 
They were advertising East Coast prices for California.  The lobster rolls were $12.50 each.
 
The only problem with mine is a personal problem.  The roll on the outside was greasy and I don't like touching greasy food.
 
I needed more napkins.
 
I washed it down with a Maine Root Soda.
 
Took several sips and passed on the rest of the bottle as it was a full sugared drink.  Not supposed to drink those but always want a taste!
 
I'll eat them again. 
 
The other thing is I was right.  There were cards on the table advertising their restaurant in Old Town Pasadena.
 

 
 

That was a good deal. A lobster roll at the Red Hook Lobster Pound truck in NYC is $16.

I can't believe how expensive cheese is...in California. Those happy cows are rich. I bet they have homes in Beverly Hills.

They sold much more that just lobster rolls.
 
The show I was referring to was Shark Tank... not The Shark.
 
 

Last week when at Costco I had this stupid idea that I'd eat the bag of minced Kale, Cabbage and other unknown green things. 
 
It was marketed as a complete salad which included a bag of dried cranberries, some sort of nuts and poppy seed dressing.
 
It just sat in my refrigerator staring at me. 
 
Maybe I'm avoiding it because it's supposed to be healthy.  Maybe just because it's mostly kale.
 
So, instead of wasting whatever it cost me I sauteed a couple cups of the green stuff with some garlic and white pepper. 
 
It still didn't look inviting so I beat up a few eggs with salt and pepper and made a frittata. 
 
It wasn't bad.  Not great, either but at least I didn't waste it. 
 
Now I'm thinking about making some soup.

Lunch was just a super bbq cheeseburger (half pound of 80/20) grilled with toasted seeded bun...

I had a roast pork sub with swiss cheese, bacon, and Italian tomatoes (diced tomatoes and red onion in oil, vinegar, basil and oregano). Just finished it all and now I need a nap.

Mar, I can't remember what TV show I saw it on but you could pan-roast the kale in the oven until it's crunchy.

Nachos, meatballs, a hot dog, deli, and potato chips.  And beer.  Hey--it was a football party. :)

I usually bring leftovers but as there were none I brought Fairway Market's chicken salad(really good) and pea soup from their fresh food section. Both were delicious.

I made stuffed shells yesterday and used a very meaty Bolognese sauce on them along with a generous sprinkling of mozzarella. I divided it into containers and brought one for lunch and froze the others. So good! Everyone who walked by me commented on how good it smelled and looked.

I adore stuffed shells and will be making some for a party next weekend, too.

Just split a pizza from local chain Glass Nickel with a coworker.  Alfredo sauce, sausage, mushrooms, and black olives make for a tasty combination.

We microwaved some White Castle cheeseburgers.  A side of Tostitos with salsa.  Snapple lemon tea.

Just finished off a twix candy bar and 12 fruit and vanilla flavored tootsie rolls.
 
you take a vanilla tootsie roll and an orange one and eat them together it is like you are eating a dreamsicle.

Don, you know how to eat Tootsie Rolls!  Try the regular chocolate with the orange.  Great combo.

As part of my daughter Katie's birthday gift we had lunch today at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater, NJ. We can never get enough of the ramen soup from the food court along with a tasty side of pork cheeks.

Did I mention the pork cheeks?

Pork cheeks?

Yes, slices of jowl they braise until melt in your mouth tender then they put a very subtle, light soy sauce glaze on them. You can eat them as is or dip them in your soup (which is what we do). They are little slices of heaven! 

Italians call pork cheeks guanciale.

It was a delicious pie, but once I smelled the truffle oil on the mushroom pizza at the table next to me, I kinda wanted to trade.

Little cheeseburgers at Five Guys in Rio Grande NJ with Ms OC.  Boy were they good!  The fries were great also (with malt vinegar)  But there was 3x the amount we could eat.

I love love love the fries at Five Guys!

Interesting, my wife and I were up near there today and although we had been there about maybe 10 years ago, we couldn't remember the name of it. Or did it used to be called something else? Mitsuwa doesn't sound familiar, although looking at the picture on thier website, I'm sure that's where we had been.

The Dosai are easy. Gits makes fantastic mixes (the Kulfi mix is soooo good) . I just forgot to stop for eggplant...and it's so hard to make eggplant curry without it.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Finally, after months of craving, we made it to Skyline for lunch today. lleechef doesn't care for such things as three-ways, four-ways or five-ways, so she had a plain coney with mustard and the  Cincinnati-style chili, plus a Pepsi. I ordered a large four-way with onions, and some sweet tea. I was disappointed because somehow the four-way didn't taste as I remembered. There was just something a little off. I'll go back again, figuring that it was me not the food.

Mmmmm... I so want to try Skyline!  I've been making copycat recipes for years and love it, but the real thing is on my bucket list.
 
I ended up in the Mission District of SF today and did some damage.  I was meeting a friend for pizza, but got there very early so I went to Bi-Rite Creamery and got a scoop of salted caramel ice cream.  I also stopped at Tartine Bakery and picked up some baked goods, which I still haven't tried yet.  I'll post them on the dessert page when I do.  But for lunch we went to Pizzeria Delfina, well loved in this city, and it was easy to see why.  We got meatballs and a margherita pizza.  Please forgive me--I snagged these two pics off Yelp (my bad), but they look exactly like what we got.  If this isn't kosher for me to do, someone please tell me, and I'll delete them.

J's Place is an outstanding Soul Food/BBQ restaurant in Bakersfield California....with great servers that are very fun. It's a busy place...

Cool that your niece found something healthy there!  It's not quite their specialty at J's Place.

She loved the chicken salad....and adores the caramel cake as well.

Our waitress told us that the peach cobbler is also quite divine.

Those neck bones look great, exactly what I'd like to have for lunch today. No place close by to get them though, so I'm getting some ribs and half a smoked chicken with chili and collard greens instead. If I can refrain from eating the whole thing at lunch, it'll be dinner as well!

We're close to water.  The kayak weighs 65 pounds.  Getting it from the SUV to the water which might be 20 yards ruins the moment.
