I was in a mood. First one is a Bailey's cake, second is a peanut butter cake. And I also ate some salad, so it was healthy.

OK. It's off to Crabill's, and then to Henry's to see whether they have any pie left. Eat your hearts out Cliff, Greg, Dale, Danny and Ed.

I had lunch with Spider-Man. He knew I was sad being away from <<<Hoboken>>> so he insisted. I agreed...when I realized he wasn't giving me the horns...

Spider-Man didn't want dessert (this is why my super powers are much stronger than his super powers)....

McFlurry Toblerone...

& a McEspresso that had strong super powers as well...

We did a company cook out/potluck for lunch today... hamburgers and Italian sausage on the grill (I cooked all that and now I smell like grease... oh well), lots of Mexican dishes for Cinco de Mayo, I made an 8 pound braised pork shoulder, lots of side dishes and desserts. Everything was excellent, and lots of leftovers for tomorrow!

7 tacos...some with green taco sauce, some with bbq sauce, all had hamburger, cilantro, & red onion (You'll never find sour cream on my taco's, and rarely any cheese of any kind)...hand fried corn tortillas for the shells, fried 'til semi firm/still flexible in 50% canola oil, 50% bacon grease...

Yummy...

I like Toblerone, but not sure about a white chocolate version. I suppose I'd take a bite, though.

BackRhodes - the 50-50 frying grease sounds very yummy indeed!

When in McSwitzerland you gotta have a McFlurry Toblerone. I'm not crazy about white chocolate alone but the addition of caramel makes this McFlurry truly delightful...

In McUruguay the McFlurry of choice includes Lapataia (a dulce de leche "confection") that makes the long journey so worth the trip...

In McColumbia the McFlurry Tres Leches is a winner as well...

Lunch today included transforming my jelly cake into a pie...

Mission accomplished. A few tweaks & it'll be puuurfect.

Since I had yet another appointment with the orthopedic surgeon this morning, we stopped at http://redhotgr.com/ (it's right around the corner). This time I got the Country Skillet. "Skillet" is a stretch, and their sausage gravy is...ok...I guess. Kind of. It's brown gravy, and the "sausage" was more like chopped up leftover salisbury steak. From here on out I'll stick with a burger or the Super Breakfast. They do some pretty darn fine cafeteria/diner food, they just don't do sausage gravy well. Live and learn.

Edit:
Huh. Photobucket appears to not want to play today. It's there...

CC - A little caramel could fix many things! That Uruguay one looks interesting.  And your pie looks like a definite winner.

Felix - that doesn't look like sausage or salisbury steak to me! Almost looks like ground/chopped hot dog. " />

Felix, how's your foot doing?

I finally made it to The Griddle on Sunset Boulevard.
I had an outstanding sandwich which was so big I only ate half.  Grilled shrimp BLT and it was full of grilled shrimp!  Outstanding sandwich!  I opted for the cinnamon apples instead of fries.  The apples were fresh but the goo was.... well goo.  But tasty.

I was impressed by the way they served their coffee.  I found it a bit pricey but you had your choice of mild, medium or bold.  It was served in a French Press which gave me at least 4 of the small mugs of coffee.
I really like The Griddle.  Even their paper napkins impressed me.

Mar, that's crazy! It didn't make the news here, either, but now I'm gonna have to look it up. Wow!

The foot is getting there, thanks! I'll be doing PT twice a week for a couple of months, and see the surgeon again mid-July. It's crazy for me that I broke it December 5 and it'll be August before I'm released back to work. On the other hand, now that the weather is finally cooperating I should have a fabulous container herb garden.

Lunch today I treated myself to a breakfast biscuit since I had some leftover Grands. Fried egg, bacon and cheese. I also had a banana and some yogurt.

I heard it was mass anchovicide!

Actually, I heard someone spilled Kool-aid in the harbor.

I was surprised though, usually this is caused here from Red Tide, but in this case, it sounds like they just went in and wound up in a real "dead zone". Just be glad you're not living on a boat, Mar!

Greg, it's not the photo.  Those are the beans.  They tasted right, they just looked a bit pale.  I would have like more mole but it was very good.

Re:What's For LUNCH...??? 2014/05/22 13:02:10 (permalink)
Ed, the restaurant itself amazed me.  HUGE describes it well.  There are many large dining areas.  We chose to sit in the covered outdoor area with a view of the ocean.

The place is highly decorated in lots of dark browns.  I loved the look. This photo was taken in one of the rooms that didn't have guests in it.  There were several rooms!

Something is good about the place as it was packed except for that one room.

Tequila was showcased as we entered so I'm thinking it's a place to go for "sampling."

As for the food, Javier's has been touted to my by my neighbor for a good six years.  I finally agreed to go there with her.  She always told me it's expensive which I found odd because I feel if the food is great, I wouldn't mind paying a little more for it, and...  how much could Mexican food be?

My enchiladas were good.  Were they outstanding?  I really don't think so.  They were good but they needed more mole.  The rice and beans were okay.  I think my plate was $12 or $14.  Maybe a couple dollars more than at another place.  They also used nice dishes and silverware.

But...  They also serve steak and seafood options.  On the Lunch menu these sold for $20 - $50!  I didn't see a dinner menu.

The wait staff at Javier's was very attentive without being obtrusive which was nice.

Would I go back?  Yes, if in the area.  I wouldn't make a special trip from where I live.

They also have locations in Irvine Center and the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas.

I think Javier's is more about the atmosphere but I also might have ordered the wrong item. Maybe it's a place where you take someone.

The shopping center also houses a Williams Sonoma and a Trader Joe's.

Well, it sounds like a great place to take an out-of-town visitor then, if you want Mexican with a view. I am still looking for a place to come close to these mole enchiladas, from Gaby's in Puerto Vallarta.

I tried the place in Bell that was on Bobby Flay's Throwdown, La Casita Mexicana, that has a reputation for mole but it was average. I need to find a great mole here in the L.A. area!

Ed, I think I'd kill for those!

I love the dark mole sauce.  Used to buy it by the quart a couple times a year in Tijuana but I can't go there anymore.  Scary place!

I've even tried Guelaguetza on Olympic and didn't like it as much as I had hoped. and moles are their specialty.
