Soused Raisins If Grandma wont approve I will!

Todays lunch was left over fried red potatoes and onions, and a Oklahoma inspired onion smash burger made with local raised 4H beef.

Grandma would be fine with that, although she would suggest brandy over rum.

Lunch for me today was a bowl of Reese's peanut butter crunch cereal. It's one of those days.

Lunch was a Birthday celebration for my nephew....

City Slickers (Jack Palance owned a ranch here for a long time)...

Not another biscuit. I'm still full from this morning...

Yikes...

Here's my share. A fried pickle...

Pot roast sandwich & potato chips...

It was sliced pot roast (I'm not used to that) but it was very good (sans bread)

C'mon wish for some Red Sox gear...

Cough cough cough...

Pot roast sandwich looks pretty good.

What about that cake???

I saw Jack Palance in a very dirty movie one time--I was staying at a hotel and they didn't filter their movies.  Didn't watch the whole thing--incredibly baaaad.  Anyway, I've never been able to think of him in quite the same way since.

My mother had lunch with Jack Palance...years ago. Yikes.

It's like bow chicka wow wow central on television after the sun goes down...in Montreal. I had to explain the term bow chicka wow wow when I mentioned that at a hotel...years ago. I tried to just say ...ya know. Didn't work. That was fun.

Here's the cake...

The chocolate topping was really delicious!

My attention shifted to these when they arrived at the table...

Jack Palance was in a commercial that I was working on, during lunch he dropped and started doing one armed push ups.

I have been in a leftover mood the last couple of days and have pretty well cleaned out all the leftovers, so today was decision day which half box of cereal to finish first.

The cinnamon roll capn crunch wasnt bad, not too cinnamonny, and had a light texture, the others are ALWAYS on the shelf

I tried that cinnamon roll capn crunch, and I can't say I was a fan. I ate it, but I probably won't go out of my way to buy it again. Reese's puffs is the best cereal ever.

I made myself some of these:

Added some actual broccoli and a can of chicken, and stirred in some sour cream and salt-free seasoning blend at the end. Meh.

OK, here's the deal. I was curious so yesterday I went to McDonald's -- yes, McDonald's -- and ordered something called a Bacon Habanero Ranch Quarter Pounder. It was good! It really was. It wasn't one of the best burgers I've ever had -- as with all McDonald's burgers it was cooked too much. It wasn't even close to being in the same category as many of the burgers I've enjoyed. But the darned thing was good. Today I thought I'd try another one just to see whether yesterday's was a fluke. It was just as good today. The bacon is nice, the lettuce and tomato were fresh, the white cheddar was fine. The meat was the usual. But the topper, the thing that makes this sandwich, is the habanero ranch sauce. It's spicy, with a bite that you get at the back of your mouth as you would with any good chile. I'm not a McDonald's regular, except for the large coffee I get before the start of a roadtrip, and the blueberry pomegranate smoothie that lleechef likes. But I'll go back for one of these burgers sometime.

felix - I agree the cinnamon roll capn was ok but there are much better flavors of capn crunch out there.

Oops all berries
Peanut butter
Chocolate
Original

Also agree about the reeses, it is always good.  I actually had a bowl of reeses and a bowl of cinnamon to finish off the boxes.

I was a little nervous about the world ending as I drove home yesterday. Anyway, they have three different ones of these new quarter pounders, and I was thinking I might just have to try one of the other two.

Well I might take my mother to lunch tomorrow!

We always end every meal, anywhere with a McDonald's sundae.  Last time she bought 4... one to eat and 3 to freeze.

CajunKing - You could always try what my grandchildren do. They live in town during the week due to activities, sport, friends and school, but they come home for weekends. They just pour all of the partial boxes of cereal into one box, shake it up, and go from there. They don't much care for Grandpas Shredded Wheat nor oatmeal with brown sugar, fresh cream and butter. However they will eat great grammas home apple fritters any day of the week.

Here's the recipe...

1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups Cap’n Crunch cereal

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a mixing bowl combine butter and brown sugar, beat in egg and vanilla. Add flour and baking soda, beat until well combined. Fold in Cap’n crunch.

Scoop onto a lined or greased baking sheet about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges start to brown.

Remove to a wire rack to cool.

I don't eat raw cookie dough because eggs make me sneeze for like an hour...and that's beggin' for a terrible headache.

Join the club...

If it's any consolation...you're the nicest heathen I know....and heathens have more fun!

You could eat the tops of the pretzel loops and have a delicious pretzel pitchfork. Careful with the butter...

The mushrooms...

I used onions & celery for the stuffing.

Onions celery a little butter & oil (I use grapeseed oil) salt. Let them go low & slow for a bit. Instead of sugar I added some Mexican Coke. It gives it a nice hint of sweetness (not too much) and helps develop a very nice deep rich color....without bitter bits that can happen when onions caramelize in sugar for an extended period of time. Nice caramelized oniony bits with Mexican Coke.

I also added beef stock (borrowed from a good Steakhouse) Worchestershire sauce...dry vermouth ...a little dry mustard..black pepper...thyme & sage.

Very low & slow...adding more stock as the vegetables softened (without being mushy). Towards the end...I added the diced mushroom stems and...

some nice croutons that got a beatin'...to stuffin' it up.

I tossed the mushrooms in butter for a few minutes.... & lined the bottom of each mushroom with some of the croutons. Stuffing...topped with a little Romano cheese & 2 little slices of Swiss cheese (from a block) on an angle like a roof of a house (for a nice little cheese skirt).

Sprinkled with a little paprika...in the oven @ 325 degrees for 10 minutes....then the broiler for about 3 minutes.

That tequila cocktail reminds me of this tequila cocktail in Las Vegas...

The cocktail before the cocktails...that gave me the Chilaquiles.

I found key limes so I have to make key lime something-or-other tomorrow...

Ha!  I tried fooling with key limes once--I will always buy the bottled juice now.

My cocktail had coconut water, lime, agave nectar and pineapple tequila.  Very refreshing.  What was in yours, CC?

I remember a few ice cubes...and there was a straw. After that...it was a blur.

The little limes will yield or else...

I think I'll make some key lime baby pies with pretzel crusts. Pretzels know the drill.

I'm making the sweetened condensed milk from scratch...as well.

I guess it won't be that pretty shade of glowing green...

Pizza project (and pizza) for lunch today.

Transformed a puffy (with excellent flavor) pizza in the high desert...

To an authentic textbook NYC pizza by-the-slice type of pizza (with too much pepperoni)....

Mission accomplished! <<<Hoboken>>> handshake...

I celebrated with a chocolate brownie and Pretzel M&M's...

Why make sweetened condensed milk from scratch??

You can make those pies as green as you want them.

How'd you "transform" the pizza??

Because I love to be fresh...and this ain't home. I gotta do something to keep me busy.

This house is so immaculate I figure the cleaning lady will be happy to juice limes...tomorrow.

If the pies can't be crazy green (Shamrock Shake!)...they're gonna be crisp white with authentic green specks! I might make Mexican crema instead of sweetened condensed milk.

The pizza...

New flour...different formula...tossing & spinning class. It's not just for show (not that there's anything wrong with some show...as well) . It makes a difference vs. rolling pizza dough.

Happy Birthday to the Birthday boy!

I'm practicing with the M&M's...

Pizza & exercise would make it a sold out spin class in <<<Hoboken>>>. Security would be busy because those girls are soooo dramatic.

Fried in bacon grease and seasoned with Cajun and garlic salt with parsley. I also shook on quite a bit of Cajun Power spicy garlic pepper sauce.
