What's Your Favorite Regional Soda/Pop?

in eastern pa. there is A-Treat from allentown, pa. they make a large variety of flavors but lime,pineapple and grapefruit seem not to be readily available elsewhere. they also do the regulars of grape,cola birch beer,black cherry,blue raspberry,etc.

Barq's is the Coca-Cola of root beers, in fact, I believe it's distributed by Coca-Cola. It's definitely not regional.

I can't vote. I've heard of Moxie but only from this site. We have Stewart's(not in great volume) here but I don't really have a desire to try it.

I don't know of any of these. My favorite soda was Orange Crush in bottles.

Barq's has been owned by Coca Cola since 1995. Before that, the bottles listed Biloxi, MS as location of the company. I was in Bixoli in 1993. Tried looking for the plant. No plant. No listing in the phone book. I wrote them a letter, and received a reply postmarked New Orleans, LA. They must have just bought caller service from the Post Office to have someone pick up the letters and transport them to New Orleans.

The funny thing is that they make a great Cream Soda that is now a defacto regional soda since many of the Coca Cola franchised areas have dropped the product. I have to bring mine in from Philadelphia. Their Root Beer you can get just about anywhere on the east coast.

Pssst, we still have those here in orange, strawberry and grape. They should have put it on the list IMO.....

Barq's Red Creme Soda yummmmm

Is Canfield's still out there, Last time I saw them was in the Chicago area. They made a great creme soda. It was crystal clear and delissssshhh

There is a place here in Portland called the Red Square Cafe. I have been able to sample Moxie, Big Red, and Green River sodas there. Also tried Sun Drop while In Tennesse. Liked Sun Drop and Moxie, did not like Big Red or Green River.

Chips, I picture you (and I did) as a MOXIE kind of guy !! Big Red takes some getting used to, but once hooked it is a real 'habit-maker'. For years my secretary would come in each morning with a 44oz Big Red instead of a coffee. Today the "Red Bull" and "Vault" and other 'booster drinks' have replaced the simple soda in that part of the market. Try taking a nap after drinking a couple of "Vault's"...can't be done!!

Poopy, Thanks for listing "BUBBLE UP". That was the first soda that came out in the tall 16 oz Bottles in SoCal back in the 1950's. As a young person with an definite interest in QUANTITY not Quality, BUBBLE UP became my favorite drink for awhile!

Anything Sprecher (Milwaukee) makes:
Cream Soda
Root Beer
Orange Dream ... like a melted dreamsicle ... mmm.

A side note to whoever makes it to Milwaukee: You MUST tour the Sprecher Brewery. This, in my opinion, is the single best way to soak in the spirit of Milwaukee. And since they make sodas too, parents and children will BOTH have a blast!

Thanks for the tip on the Sprecher's Brewery tour. This is perfect timing, since I will be in Milwaukee this weekend. I am going to do my best to include it into my plans.

Cheerwine in the glass bottle. Made w/ sugar and NOT HFCS. Piedmont NC generally.

If I remember reading the marketing info from Pepsi, (about 10 years ago) your state was part of the Krystal Pepsi testing area. Maybe we ought to study the birth-rate stats to see if it had any real effect???

I solemnly promise that the next trip we take to the Western USA I will deliver samples of Cheerwine, MOXIE, Big Red and Vernor's Ginger Ale directly to you. We can't have you making life-changing decisions for folks without the experiences that these sodas will give you.

Gotta love Blenheim ginger ale, especially the spicy variety.

I stock up on it when I can find it.. which is rarely. It can (sometimes) be found at A Southern Season in Chapel Hill, NC. Great enjoyed by itself or with a splash of bourbon!

Here is Barq's history. I knew it had something to do with Cincinnati, because Barq's was a sponsor on the locally produced children's show "Uncle Al".

It seems the history includes New Orleans, Biloxi, Mobile and Cincinnati.

I'm not sure of my recollection but I think Barq's made an orange soda as well as the grape, creme soda and root beer.
I've only seen the root beer for years. Still big in parts of the south and around here.

Ale 8 one (kinda of a ginger ale) is the only local soda I can think of around here.
There was another called Whistle that came in watermelon (the bomb), peach, grapefruit and other cool flavors. It was bottled in Winchester Ky as is Ale 8 one.
Ale 8 one's label states the use of sugar and or HFCS at this time so I don't drink it anymore but it was pretty good stuff.
Whistle discontinued sometime in the 80's I believe. I still have a bottle of grapefruit I've been packing around for years for some insane reason.

Do you remember the big barq's sign there on river road around sedamsville?? It was going east just past jim & jack's in that big S Curve? there was a little market there and the sign was on the side of the building for MANY MANY years.

We always stopped at that little market on our way home from the city growing up, you could get brown or pink cows!

Sprecher soda made locally here in Miwaukee.Darn good root beer and cream soda.Anyone who cant get Vernors, let me know-I will send!!

Buffalo Rock was the distributor of 7UP in Northwest Florida, most of Alabama
& parts of west Mississippi until last Easter when they finally decided to
carry Pepsi's "home team brand" Sierra Mist. At first I thought 7UP would
have a very reduced presence or gradually disappear from the area, since they
were now on their own, but it's still here on the shelves, & the side benefit
has become the addition of the other brands (Squirt, Cheerwine, Big Red, Sun-
Drop, Vernors) that have arrived.

Not where I live. Of course, it's from here, so that might be why. Every gas station and convenience store around here sells 20 oz. bottles as well as 2L bottles.

Way back when, I use to deliver the Post in that area and worked the Sohio station in Sayler Park. I drove River Rd. every single day for years (and ate at Jim and Jacks 2-3 times a week).
