Hi shanklemsw, Back in 1961-1963 I was often at that 'Whataburger' in a black 57 Chevy convertible (red interior). Wow! what fun. I thought those days would last forever. And they did - in my mind, Scarlett

I am THRILLED to announce that Gainesville, FL will be having a Whataburger opening VERY soon, it's right on my way home and I can't wait. We had one years ago and I was too little to tell you if it was any good or not. I'm very anxious to try them again, in fact it's causing quite a stir here in G'ville.

Haven't done the Sonic thing yet although I've eaten at Sonic's before. My husband on the other hand works close so he hits it quite regularly. I'm partial to the cherry lime slushy thing!

I guess I'm going to have to try the What-a-Burger. There's one in Shreveport, but I've never stopped there. My wife & I swear by Sonic: it's just a hamburger, fixed the way you want it. No fancy sauces or anything. And I ate often at the very first Lotaburger anywhere. It was the early '50s in Albuquerque, on SE San Mateo, I believe. Onions & mayo only ( I didn't know any better), with mayo on the fries.

This is my first post I remember reading an article in the Tallahassee Democrat a few months back that Whataburger was planning a major expansion in the Big Bend: now if they would only give Panama City a second chance! robert

Adjudicator, the old (and only) Whataburger in PC was on 15th Street past all the car lots going west. I think Captain D's is in that location now. Popeye's is in Lynn Haven (at the site of what was "Big Sam's Fried Chicken" - check my post in the Misc. section under "Welcome, New Posters"). When was the last time you were in PC? Have you heard about the Breakers on the beach being sold to make way for condos? Robert: Chipley HS class of 1980 (next year 25?!)

quote:Originally posted by Michael Hoffman I got my only Whataburger in Austin in 1953 or 1954. It was the first hamburger I ever saw that came with lettuce, tomato and onion. And it was shredded lettuce at that. I tossed it away without tasting it. Lettuce on a hamburger, indeed. And I say "AMEN"! The thought of anything hot combined on a plate or sandwich with fresh lettuce is pretty gross.

I thought Whataburger was much better in the 70's, at least the one located in Oak Cliff (Dallas) off of Westmoreland Road.

Last week in Houston was the first time I was able to avail myself of this FINE burger. I am now bummed that I had been passing up the chance. This is one of the best fast food burgers I have ever had. I believed that my order was prepared fresh, from scratch, and the meat tasted like ground beef -- something I don't think I can say about BK, McDs and the like. I am bummed that there are no locations in Florida (that I know of), but will make it a point to stop whenever I am in TX. This week's stop -- Austin..... Steve

HELLO? I am surely not going to argue, but I have not been fortunate enough to run into one. I live in Melbourne, where the first Starbuck's only opened a few months back (and may well have been washed away by Jeanne). We get stuff a little later than the rest of the country. But, if the Whataburger folks are listening, I would gladly support a Melbourne location....perhaps, singlehandedly! Steve

Steve Steve, I know it's been quite awhile since you posted this, but most of the Florida Whataburgers appear to be in north FL. I think the closest to you is Gainesville near the U of FL. By the way I would gladly join you in supporting them further south in the state. You could support them on the east coast and I'd take the SW coast. So who do we need to talk to? Now I kinda feel foolish, I didn't realize whataburger was a franchise. One opened here recently by WalMart and I was told it was owned by a jaguars player I suppose I should have realized it wasn't a start from scratch operation but I heard foolball and immediately dismissed any further thoughts of it

It is kind of on the other side of town from where I live, so I don't get that way too often. I have only stopped once, and it was definitely getting some of the kinks out of the new operation, but the burger was pretty darn good.

My wife and I visited my mother-in-law in Fort Worth TX, and I passed a Whataburger on the main drag everyday for a week. It looked kind of run down, but there were plenty of customers all the time. I wish I would have stopped once after reading this whole thread (I couldnt tear myself away from the Bodacious BBQ joint).

As I mentioned above, we got one here in Melbourne. I think the expansion is moving southward, as I was told by someone who lives in (I think) Gainesville that they were coming my way. Keep your fingers crossed. Steve
