What's A Burger Without Delicious Toppings? Nuthin!

Serious Eats explores the Wonderful World of Burger Toppings.
It's not just Tomato, Lettuce & Mayo any longer.
Some of these look Delicious, some a little crazy but all look good.
My favorite is the Poutine Burger!
What's Yours?????????

Plain burger on a quality toasted bun + a jar of this:

Spoon a little on your next intended bite.

I don't go too crazy. Sometimes just mustard, relish onion and ketchup. Other times, I do like grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, Swiss cheese, A1 Sauce or chili.

For much of my adolescence and youth, I ate my burgers naked.....nuthin' except maybe some salt.  Not even cheese. then someone gave me one with mayo...yummy......now I even sometimes add the rabbit stuff. And onions either raw or gilled and bacon are always welcomed.  Some of the more interesting things I've grown to like are Hoisin sauce, maybe with a lil hot sauce or splash of BBQ sauce.  Boars head makes a jar of Sweet Vidalia Onion spread that is a tasty treat if you can find it

Unless I'm fortunate enough to be eating a green chile cheeseburger I want my medium rare burgers to be cheeseburgers with grilled onions, and some mayonnaise. Sometimes, though, I'll go with mustard and relish in addition to the mayonnaise.

It depends on the day.  Being from New England, Cain's hamburger relish is a favorite.  Most times it's ketchup, mayo, tomato & raw onion.  I also like grilled or fried onions too.

It's interesting to note that most of the posters on here use pretty basic toppings for their burgers as compared to the more exotic ones in the Serious Eats article.

Of the ones listed in the article, I'd go for the Barbecue Bacon Burger.  In fact, I've had a very similar one:

I've also had something similar to the Reuben burger--mine had pastrami, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese (I skipped the dressing as I hate mayo).  It was really delicious.

I feel that burgers and pizza have at least one thing in common...the better the quality, then the fewer the toppings are needed.

I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 ........

I often have just a plain burger off the grill, but would probably like that Reuben burger.

I would never refuse a one-eyed Gus burger from The White Spot in Charlottseville, Va.

Ironic, isn't it.  Pile a load of toppings on a burger and people rave enthusiastically, but mix a little sauce into the barbecue and they start screaming that it's an effort to hide something.

If the burger is a good one, all you need is a buttered, toasted bun.  Plain and simple.

You know, we just happen to have 20 ounces of beautiful ground chuck in the refrigerator, along with cheese, lettuce, mayonnaise and pickles. And there are some beautiful tomatoes on the counter and six of those same buns. And then, of course, there are the roasted Hatch chiles in the freezer -- just in case.

Amen.  Give me a good quality bun, a burger cooked medium, a very small amount of mayo and mustard, a slice of sharp cheddar, and a garden-fresh slice of tomato.  Of course, if it's just the patty on a toasted bun, that's good eats too.

A friend that lives in Mexico says that in her area, they put soy-pickled chili peppers on them, I believe she said serranos. I'm very curious to try that.

I never put anything on my burgers.  When I order one, I say "with nothing on it." A buttered, grilled bun is all I want besides the meat.

...I agree with most here, the better the burger, the less topping. I want to taste the quality beef...Ever notice  a whopper or big mac tastes like a tomato and lettuce sandwich...the beef(???) is tasteless...don't believe me, take the beef out. The sandwich tastes the same. There , it is the topping that actually gives the sandwich taste. I'm eating a quality $5+ burger, I want to taste it...a bit of salt and pepper. That's it...no cheese either....as the meat quality goes down, the rate of toppings goes up!!!

Sighs......Lee, the more I eat burgers out, the more I agree with you.  Stopped in Roadhouse Texas or whatever it is called today (only place I thought I'd get a "simple" meal with some booze). Big Mistake.  The Smokehouse burger was way over packed with "stuff" and sloppy to eat - I finally had to cut it in half and then pick at it with a fork. The meat all by itself was pretty tasteless. The fries were soggy and barely warm. The glass of wine was ok, but I ended up leaving almost half the burger.

My mistake....next time forgo the booze for a milk shake somewhere else
