First things first:  leethebard - I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.  Losing a parent leaves such a big hole in your life, and those of us who've had to endure it, feel that with you and send our heartfelt sympathy.

Thanks to all for your kind comments!

Continuing in a somewhat Mediterranean theme I got a falafel wrap with eggplant.  I'd been craving one for a while, and even though this one wasn't great, and even had some "gringo" ingredients in it, it did the trick.  For now.

Tonight's dinner.  No butter involved.  Just a sprinkling of Old Bay.

I was hoping to see the crab dripping in $13 lb butter, while I sit here eating a Baloney sandwich..........

Mar: When I had the Pastrami at Katz's Deli in NYC, the fat was as good as the meat was on the pastrami on rye. To me thats what makes good pastrami..............GEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ !!!! now I want Pastrami..

L2B, it looks good! It will just make you seek out a better one next time.

leethebard, I am so sorry for your loss.

L2B, that is one fabulous looking salad! And the wrap ain't bad, either.

Mar, that crab is making my mouth water!

Tonight I made chicken n' dumplings, loosely based on the Loveless Cafe's recipe but adapted with more stuff and in the crock pot instead of on the stove. I was pretty darn pleased with the results, although the dumplings didn't cook as well as they would have on the stove.

Looks great!  When are you getting that new stovetop???  When the snow melts?  You might have to wait a loooooong time.

I asked about the stove tonight, and was told, "Hopefully next week there will be a day where the weather isn't too bad so I can drive to the shop to talk to them." I pointed out this newfangled technology called the phone, but she insists she has to talk to them in person. Luckily, I don't have to make Thanksgiving dinner since I'll be at work.

Costco pizza for us tonight!  I have never eaten one before and have to admit.........its the best pizza I have ever tasted!
Multi layered and FULL of meat and cheese.  Costco is about 1 1/2 minutes from the house so next time I want pizza.......Costco it is.
This was the small and easily fed 2 people for only $7.00 and the larges were only $10.00
Usually the crust on most pizzas is rock hard and I end up tossing it but the crust on this altho it was thick melted in your mouth!

Not knowing if the pizza would be enough to eat she also bought a frozen chicken Ziti filled with super tender strips of chicken.  I had some of that too but plenty left over for tomorrow.

Wait a minute.  "Drive to the shop and talk to them."  WHAT?  You're not in Alaska!  You're not even in the UP!  Good thing this didn't happen to me (who constantly cooks) because I would've been VERY irate.

thanks mar.  I sometimes forget about the many ways I've cooked things in the past 30 years of cheffing.  I had a butternut squash from the farm and wanted to use it........and then I remembered about this way.  It was very good......I enjoyed the Savoy cabbage and the squash more than the pork!

That's what I'm doing for Sunday, kale in place of cabbage. I like to glaze my squash with agave at the end.

iluvcfood, Costco pizza, huh? I have to admit it looks pretty good; maybe next time my sister is going I'll tag along and grab one.

So it's not just me? Thursday we were at my office, which is approximately four blocks from the shop she prefers for appliances. But the roads were "too bad", so instead of going there while I was at my meeting she sat in the parking lot of the office and waited for me. I still don't know why the phone doesn't work. The only saving grace to working 60-70 hours a week is I've only had to cook I think 4 times since it broke...Which for those of you following the saga was one month ago tomorrow.

That squash looks amazing! And it reminded me I have some in the fridge from the other day, which sounds like a midnight snack to me.
