Hey felix,
I had to jump in and tell you there's lots of people that like that hot tuna (and the old rock band too!).  Many families here in the upper Midwest had that as a standard comfort food going back a long time.  My wife and I both grew up with it, and still eat it all the time -- just last week, to be exact.

It's a different recipe now that they have reduced the tuna can size, but it used to be so simple -- one can of tuna, one of cream of celery soup, enough milk to make the soup into a sauce, and three or four hard-boiled eggs, chopped up.  Throw it all together and heat it up.  S&P as preferred.

It's different now that the cans are smaller, but we find we like plenty of tuna, and so now just use two cans, and like it fine.

But -- you are again eating our food, with the peas.  It must be peas, no other vegetable, for us with this dish -- the difference is my wife always wants them on top like you, and I like them on the side.

Also, we would use more peas than you are using.

Your plate looks good to me!

I just made it, too, after Felix posted her pic. I use cream of mushroom soup, but the rest is pretty much as you described it, easydoesit!

Yay! I love when my comfort food is also someone else's! I made it harder than it needed to be, though. No canned soup, and my mother vetoed the hard boiled eggs (her taste has been out of whack since her surgery).

It goes back to the fifties, doesn't it, Ann?  And from kids in Milwaukee, eastern Wisconsin, over to the west side, and across the Mississippi into Minnesota, we all had it...and maybe part of its appeal was the heavy Catholic concentration, and meatless Fridays...?

Fridays were different at our house.  My dad worked odd shifts on the railroad, and if he was home, Mom would fry fish for us, if we didn't go out.  And when he was working, she would make different things for us kids -- tuna on toast, and very often a simple meal of canned beans and fried eggs, which, darn it, is still a favorite to eat.  Cut up the egg and push it into the beans, and scoop it all up -- good stuff for a kid.  Followed by a nice bite of some good toast.

We still eat that too.  Sometimes with scrambled, but those fried eggs were the thing, and still are a favorite.

How about Chicken ala King?  Mom got the same response from me with it as she did when she made Tuna Noodle Casserole.  She also made a casserole we named Chicken Gick.

My mother never made tuna casserole or chicken a la king.  I guess my father just didn't like them.

I make a great tuna noodle casserole. That is, I used to make a great one. As lleechef doesn't like the idea I've not made it for us. But I use pappardelle for the noodles, marinara for the sauce, Parmigiano Reggiano and mozzarella for the cheese. Oh, and Italian tuna for the tuna.

Nope... no hot tuna.

We had some more of last night's dinner with steak. Please ignore the schmootz on the plate.  Somehow I missed it.

That makes my mouth water, mar!

I made some chicken and spinach alfredo lasagna rolls, and then discovered I did not buy a bag salad so I opened a can of green beans.

I make a skillet dinner that somehow over the years came to be called Tuna Surprise.  Sauté some onion, add tuna and cook a bit, add cream of mushroom soup and a little milk then I add a can of blue lake green beans.  I often season it with a wee bit of curry powder.  Serve over white rice.

This sounds good.  I think I will make it for dinner tonight!

I exhausted my creativity with the lasagna rolls, so tonight I made dinner from a box: frozen breaded cheddar-broccoli stuffed chicken breast, frozen broccoli in cheese sauce, and some chicken and broccoli Pasta Roni. Whatever.

I was so exhausted I went to Dinah's and picked up salads and fried chicken.  Didn't touch the salad.

When I visit my doctor, I also go to Andres to pick up some dinner.

I ALWAYS get myself the quarter chicken with spaghetti with mushroom sauce.  I always love it.

What possessed me to get the Wednesday special....  Eggplant Rollatini?

I tried eating it after I scraped off the tomato sauce.  There's a reason I get mushroom sauce on my spaghetti!
I ate about half.  I did not like it.  Breaded eggplant rolled around some broccoli, cheese and onion mixture.  Wish there weren't two of these rolls in the order.

Half:

We couldn't find and broccoli rabe yesterday so lleechef bought spinach. Then she made some wonderful polenta with hot Italian sausage and spinach sautéed in olive oil, garlic, and red pepper flakes.

We ran over to http://www.jgardellastavern.com/ between rehearsal and tonight's show for olive burgers with cheddar pretzel nuggets (dipped in Mrs. Dog's mustard) on the side. And split a giant plate of their homemade chips drizzled with malt vinegar, too, because we could. Totally forgot to take pictures, because I was starving.

Spinach and ricotta tortellini from Pennsylvania Macaroni Company in Pittsburgh in a sauce of my own canned tomatoes with a pretty good salad for winter.
