First it rained, then it snowed a little.  Good day to bake bread.  We're having this with left over "gumboots soup", followed by a cheese platter.

I got to sort of sneak a slice or two. With butter -- great. Dunked in some red wine  -- even better.

Is he still in business?

Yes, and when it comes to Chinese food there's no one that "can" do it like him!

I hear that "La Choy" is the Chinese translation of "Boyardee".

Not true. It's Chinese for Potted Meat.

I think I heard somewhere that bread does not rise well when baked on rainy days. Is it true?
I bet the house smelled great though!
Nothing beats the smell of bread baking!

We had an old Galloping Gourmet recipe, Chicken Gismondo: breaded chicken cutlet on a bed of spinach topped with mushrooms in a butter and sherry wine sauce. We love this dish!!!!

Foodbme,
About baking bread (or any yeast dough) on a rainy day.........it's the best time.  Low barometric pressure and high humidity soften the dough.  Seems to not affect pie dough or puff pastry but rainy days are bad for candy making.

And pecan pie filling. It'll never come out right if it's raining.

I bought some Patton's hot sausage (local), which would be sooo good on that smaller loaf, with just a little mynaise.

Dumbest Mardi Gras I've spent in a while... Got vetoed on making beignets, couldn't do real food, can't go out because I'm having surgery in less than 48 hours. At least I got my pazcki for breakfast!

Cheater chicken and smoked sausage jambalaya, closest I could come.

Thanks, Mar! This one isn't that big a deal, I'm just having the screws removed from my right foot because they're bugging the heck out of me. 45-minute outpatient procedure, about 10 days off work. But they have to put me under for it, so I've been given rules.

Cooked up a mess of crawdads........sucked the heads, peeled and ate the tails......for the first course.

Followed by shrimp and Andouille sausage gumbo.

Laissez le bon temps rouler!!!!!

And they were rollin' all over the place. I hadn't had crawfish (except soft craws for bait when smallmouth fishing on Lake Erie) in years -- so sweet. And lleechef's gumbo is -- the only word that fits -- magnificent.
