Mmmm... the description of eggplant rollatini sounds awesome.  Painted with pepperoni oil?!?  Wow.

That so doesn't look like anything Arby's would put out.

Edwards AFB--cool!  But maybe not in August.

It was as hot as blazes. Thankfully it does not get as hot in Tehachapi.

I was waiting for you to say "Ewww....mayonnaise!"

I used Columbus pepperoni out here. Yum!!

Yesterday I had a pepperoni pretzel from Wetzel's Pretzels...

If I can find the dough hook I'm gonna make some homemade pretzels tomorrow!

Oh yeah--eewww mayonnaise!

That pretzel looks awesome.  Take pics of your homemade pretzels and watch out for the curry powder.

I'll take pics! I'm using an Auntie Anne's recipe. Don't tell Wetzel!

I learned my lesson about watching out for the curry powder.

They are really good pretzels.

I'll be doing mine by-hand tomorrow. I'm left home alone...so at least I can curse out loud during the entire process.

Today I had an olive - mozzarella - feta flatbread (not pizza)...

CC pretzel time...

Rise for an hour. Drink some Sangria...

Look at this gorgeous pretzel. Sangria must be the key to baking...

Thank you thank you!

I've been researching pretzel recipes for a few months and had to adapt/modify some new techniques....because most of the pretzels looked a little anemic!

*White sangria only (for me)...otherwise with red sangria I'm NBT...nothin' but trouble.

The German bakery is not just magical for desserts. They bang out some extraordinary sandwiches. All of the components for this Reuben (but for the Swiss) are crafted in-house...

This is 1/2 of the sandwich...

Served with a generous yummy portion bread & butter pickles...

All that & a bag of chips (seriously) cost $7.95.

I almost forgot my oatmeal cookies!

I had frozen dough from the last batch of Bouchon and these cookies were just as scrumptious...

Maybe even more scrumptious since I didn't have to bust my ass from the start...today.

We went to Crabill's in Urbana for lunch.  Last time we were there was in the spring when we met buffetbuster and Mariton.  Their burgers are "sliders", MH had 3 double cheeseburgers with everything (onion, relish, mustard) and I had one double cheese with mustard.  We washed that down with Stewart's root beer.  Then we headed to Henry's in West Jefferson for pie.  Neither of us are big pie people, but we were in the area......so MH had banana cream and I had strawberry rhubarb.  They were sooooo good that MH got another piece of banana cream and ate it there, while I ordered a piece of coconut cream to bring home.

I took pictures of the burgers and the pies on my phone and sent them to bb.  We could hear him groaning all the way from Pittsburgh.

Well, I was hungry. I'd had just a small breakfast of a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich. Now, about that pie. I'm just a growing boy.

By the way, what's for dinner?

That looks like excellent ballpark food! The fries look glamorous. Mustard! Thatta girl!

I miss Chinese food and there are not many quality options around here. I have to take matters in my own hands.

Prep for lunch tomorrow...

Thank you!

I use pickled beet juice for color...and that also lends some wonderful flavor as well. Lean moist & meaty! They can be a little fatty dry & jerky depending on the Chinese restaurant.

That sounds good & fresh...CK!

Rice can really be sucky these days. I LOVE a good rice pudding but other than that...rice has become more miss than hit.

I don't think there's a day for that...and I can't find my favorite rice pudding recipe.

Re:What's For LUNCH...??? 2013/08/10 01:14:54 (permalink)
This is the rice pudding recipe my grandma, then my mom, always made. And now it's mine. Straight from the 1934 Watkins cookbook.

2 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups whole milk, scalded
1 1/4 cups cooked rice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Beat egg slightly; add sugar and salt and mix well.
Slowly add scalded milk to the egg mixture, stirring constantly.
Add the rice, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and raisins and stir to completely combine.
Pour into a greased 2-quart baking dish; set in pan of hot water and bake at 350F for 40-45 minutes, until set.

Not that you need to use my recipe, but now I have to.

Lunch for me today was crab salad on whole wheat with Dijon and cheddar, with a huge glass of sweet tea. It almost never occurs to me to take pictures of lunch.

Thanks for the recipe Felix!

I hope grandma mom & Watkins would approve of soaking the raisins in a little rum!
