A cool, cloudy, fall day was perfect for trying out the Russian Family Restaurant in Redwood City, CA http://russianfamily.net/
We really enjoyed their hearty, stick-to-your-ribs comfort food.
Here's their Spring Green Soup, which can be served hot or cold.
I got their malt soda, which is probably more like non-alcoholic beer than anything. Definitely unusual!
We got these "patties" (Babushkiny Zrazy)
which had potatoes on the outside and ground beef on the inside, served with mushroom gravy. The pickles were like cornichons--very nice complement to this dish.
Here's what it looked like inside:
This is Georgian Chicken Stew (Chakhokhbily iz kuritsy)
which came with pita-style bread. The dish had Middle-eastern flavor to it, which makes sense when you look at the map--Georgia is next to Turkey and Iran.
