Ok, l2b, here ya go.  My two doubles and a rootbeer at Crabill's.

The beautiful signage at Henry's.

The restaurant bursting with atmosphere!

Banana cream and tart cherry.

And for the neighbors, blackberry and peach.

Today I went to one of my all time lunch favorite places, El Gaucho Meat Market in Manhattan Beach. They specialize in foods of Argentina and Brazil.

Fresh sausages at the meat counter.....

I placed my order at the small deli counter in the back, and a few minutes later, I had a fresh made choripan sausage sandwich:

I also picked up a beef milanesa sandwich:

and some empanadas, both beef and spinach:

They came with their house-made chimichurri sauce. I washed mine down with a Guarana Antartica Brazilian soda.
All of us had a feast!

I was in a mood. French toast (with real maple syrup), smoky links, and Asian-glazed watermelon.

I wasn't a fan...as it turns out, I don't like oyster sauce (I'd never used it before). But the idea was a good one, and I'll probably try it using a different option. What's funny is they named it "Honey Soy" and there is neither honey nor soy sauce in the recipe. I find myself wondering if instead of sugar and oyster sauce I used honey and soy sauce it would come out better.

Oh, it also makes a RIDICULOUS amount of sauce! I cut it in half, and used about 2 tablespoons out of the whole cup it made.

Pardon my ignorance but whats the difference between a "green" peanut and a "regular" peanut?

They look the same to me!

You're right--they do look the same!  They're fresh, harvested, unroasted peanuts, and their shells are more moist.  When boiled, the peanut is a lighter, creamier color than the roasted ones.

So are the "green" ones costlier?
They sound like they would be fairly bland tasting??

I have no idea what they cost.

They are wonderfully bland with just the right amount of saltiness when boiled properly.

A great snack when driving from Florida to South Carolina purchased from roadside stands.

I sometimes find boiled peanuts at Ranch 99 and they're flavored with star anise.  Not as good as the fresh but not awful.  You can also find them sometimes at Walmart.... canned.  I heat them up which makes them a little better.

These ran $2/lb.  I don't know if that's considered expensive or not, but for a fun snack it's not bad!

I like them just boiled with salt, but I see where some people have added cajun seasoning, too.

Mar - I heard that some of the peanut stands in the south open cans and stick em in those pots.   Boo on them!!!  And yes--sometimes I find them in Asian markets around here, too!  This was fun!!  I'd never found "green" ones before and had no idea I could get them around here.

They look the same to me!

"Green' does not refer to the color of the peanut. It just means it's a raw, unprocessed peanut. Green peanuts are regular peanuts until you do something to them. Green, raw and regular are synonyms.
The shells of a peanut after roasting are darker in color as a result of the heating process. The longer they roast, the darker they get.
Boiled Peanuts start as raw peanuts and are boiled in Heavily Salted water. After soaking, they too get darker.
Cajun Seasoning or red pepper is sometimes added to the water cooking boiled peanuts to spice them up.
When I lived in Pensacola, I used to get my "Bowled Peanuts" from a guy out on a secondary road going to the Florabama.
He had a rig that would make Rube Goldberg proud!

I found a completely different variety of peanuts at the market today and boiled them.  They're quite big and have purply skins inside. I love em.

Next time try mayo to spread on the top of the bread instead of butter!  Makes a big difference and is actually quite tasty!

Squeezing in a few games before the end of the season.  Got an Original Joe's single burger at the ballpark.  Glad I didn't order fries, it was so substantial.  Here's an article about it, then my pic.

(I requested the veggie additions--they don't come "standard.")
