Question courtesy of Tom Fitzmorris, food writer & critic in NOLA www.nomenu.com C'mon, you've all done it! What IS the most stolen item taken from restaurants? Take a guess. I'll post the answer a little later

I guess I shouldn't admit it but I probably haven't been to 5 places in my life that even had oyster forks :)

I wouldn't know an oyster fork if I saw one! The only thing I remember ever taking from a restaurant was in the early 1970's and my drunk friends and I took a squeeze bottle of horsey sauce from Arbys for use at home. We would return it and trade it for a fresh one from time to time! I still like horsey sauce when I get something from Arbys about every 2 years or so. They do have a good fish sandwich during Lent.

I would have guessed Splenda. Not because it's expensive, but because people who like it prefer it above all others, and many places only have pink and blue.

I know a LOT of those giant beer mugs disappeared from the Lum's in Gulfport, MS in the 1960's what with all those larcenous airmen at Keesler AFB. pb

Condiment packets...Salt, Pepper, Catsup, Mustard, Sugar. You name it, if it is laid out for use by the customers, it will disappear.

In ALL, Restaurants, I'd have to go with S and P......If it was just roadside or fast food type places, I'd bet on condiment packs

I recall a couple of decades back, Wendy's (at least in the New York metropolitan area) had to make their packets of hot sauce for their chili only available from the clerks; it is a pretty decent hot sauce, with a nice cumin top note, and they were being stolen in droves from the condiment counter.
