Bill---that has got to be the coolest thing I have ever seen!
OK all you Mac users out there, question for you: Did you start out as Apple people? Or did you make the switch. I am wondering just how diffucult and expensive it would be for to de-Gates my life and get in the Mac swing of things. That new G5 might just make me do it!
I started with an Apple II (remember those 5.25" floppies--that flopped?)
To answer your question, though, I don't think it would be as hard to switch as you might think. It depends on what software you consider critical. Most major software--including the major Microsoft packages--is available for both and, for example, the MSFT Word for Mac can use Word files created on a PC just fine as does anything created with the Office suite. Photos using the common formats (JPG, GIF etc) work on both platforms. MP3's are also common to both.
One difference is that MSFT has stopped updating Internet Explorer for Mac--the last version was 5.2. So Apple now has its own browser called Safari that still has minor compatability issues with a few web sites (seems to me that's mostly sites that make heavy use of Java). There is also an version of Netscape for Mac and I use that as my main browser.
If you are a game player, you might regret moving. It's a fact there's a lot more games and other "minor" software for PC. For example, I've been looking for a program to scan my computer for "spyware" and while there are numerous freeware and shareware programs available for PC, there's only one or two for Mac and they are commercial. Of course, that's likely to be because spyware and viruses are not nearly the problem on Macs that they are on PC's.
If you've got specfic concerns, ask away! Seems like there's enough Mac people here to help you.
As to the new iMac, I've been considering getting a laptop. Now I'm wondering if maybe a new iMac wouldn't meet my need. I'm not a road warrior. Don't need true portability--just easy "lugability", so if, for example, I go to visit relatives for a couple weeks I can stay "wired". This really complicates my life.
