What's for dinner? Wed, 08/25/04 2:09 PM (permalink)
I saw asparagus on sale the other day so I think I'm gonna have fusilli in a white wine/garlic/hot pepper/cream sauce with asparagus and prosciutto. I also got some excellent Grana Padano (cheese) the other day at CostCo so that goes on top.

What about you?

I'm having Dinty Moore Beef Stew with confetti dumplings tonight. Grandson's request. Oh, and I like it too.

Lucky me, I'm going out to eat with a group of people I worked with 30 years ago. We get together twice a year to update each other and enjoy a good meal.

BT, we're having fusilli tonight too but with roasted garlic, tomatoes, asparagus and shrimp.

Crab cakes, roasted small red potato's, my own garden grown tomatoes with olive oil, garlic, sliced mozzarella and home grown basil on top. Home grown squash baked with Italian bread crumb's. Dessert will be home made apple pie (made with apples from my trees). It is a pain to peel them and core them, but the result is well worth it.

Grilled jerk chicken, fresh grilled corn and some of my own potatoes roasted with dijon mustard and thyme from the garden.

For dessert, I think ice cream is in order.

Leftover chicken paella. Although it was good, I ate it for lunch too. I'll do without and let the kid's finish it off, I won't be hungry. Tomorrow however, I have a boneless pork loin, rather large, that I will slice into nice size chops and grill.

BTW, chili in the summer?!?!? At least it has beans!

The Sundancer is having a tablespoon of peanut butter with a slug of rye. Trying to get rid of the three pounds I gained at the NHRA races at Brainerd where I overendulged with fried walleye.

I realize that this ain't exciting but it is what it is.

One year on the Atkins thing this September. Oh well, a habit is a habit.

I say we all head to axvawe's house! I love crab cakes but that tomato basil sounds wonderful. As hot as it is here that would be really nice and refreshing.

Took out ground lamb this morning. Gonna grill some "Lamburgers" tonight.......touch of curry on them is great!
And if I get energetic....since my daughter is home tonight.........some homemade ice cream. Nothing like a summer's eve!

I'm wondering how your boat trip went but I guess I'd better ask that elsewhere! Just one question, please?? Did you see green?

Trip was great, thank you.....I've been too swamped to post some pics in the last week. But awesome BBQ'd fresh albacore, steaks------plenty of good libations-----and perfect weather! Sailing was good too....I hated to come back!

Chicken thighs rolled in bread crumbs and butter, baked in the oven. Fresh corn on the cob.

Tropical fruit sherbet (pineapple, lime and orange) for dessert.

Good on a hot Colorado evening.

Supposed to be snow in the mountains this weekend. Summer is starting to fade.....

Ed Sails: I had a Hunter 27 that I did lake sailing around 1982. It was fun. I was a part of a racing club and the best I ever did was come in last. I had fun though. I assume you are in CA although I am not sure. If was in the LA area, I would enjoy the trip to the islands 26 miles out.

I am on the Tennessee river at mile marker 483 which means that I am that far from the Ohio River. I have travled downstream about 80 miles. It was not on a sail boat but a Sea Ray Sundancer 27 which Bushie has been on.

The boat is a great vessel to take you to resturants that are fun.

Paul.....For 10 years I owned a Hunter 25.5. In it I cruised from my homeport in Ventura to San Diego, Santa Barbara, Catalina and Santa Cruz Islands. I think Hunter makes a great boat---fast but still comfortable. Although I was a cruiser-----with a 3/4 Spinnaker I did OK in the races. I've also raced on an Olson 40 as well as a few Newport to Ensenada races on a Ron Holland 43. During my years on the docks I've been on many a Sea Ray----they are a great way to get to the islands quickly in comfort.
These days I share an Islander 36-----I hate to admit it, but I enjoy the comfort! It was very nice on my Catalina trip a few weeks ago---I do appreciate a real fridge and a microwave when anchored out!
I'm in Long Beach now----down the coast but still at the water. I have libations chilling for your visit in November.

Golly gee. You work in the Mission, live in the City and have a garden where you grow tomatoes, basil and APPLES? So is your real name Getty or Steele?

Chicken breast marinated in Zesty Italian salad dressing, then baked. Fresh zucchini and summer squash sliced and steamed. Dill-sour cream potato salad. Fresh blueberries tossed with a bit of sugar for dessert.

Veal chops marinated in olive oil, garlic and herbes de provence-----made in my cast iron grill pan. Salad with romaine, scallions and jicama. Fresh raspberries for dessert....yum!

And if I get energetic....since my daughter is home tonight.........some homemade ice cream. Nothing like a summer's eve!

I'm wondering how your boat trip went but I guess I'd better ask that elsewhere! Just one question, please?? Did you see green?

Nope.....we were on the inside. Sunset was nice, but over the tops of the hills on the island. Only green we saw was some of the tourists off the big boats in Avalon!

Tonight for me was a couple of Banh Mi from Saigon Sandwiches 'cause it was such a fabulous day (fog free, golden sun, not much wind, perfect temp) I didn't feel like cooking.

I've just decided to do breakfast for dinner tonight. Pancakes, bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast. I even have cranberry juice in the fridge.

I do that sometimes--for me, it's waffles and bacon.

For the first time, tonight I tried a 'Ball Park' pizza, with grilled veggies. Not bad at all... Of course, I had a very nice merlot - that didn't hurt matters at all.
