What's sooo bad about Waffle House Thu, 08/23/07 3:24 PM (permalink)
Hi,
We must be different from so many of you out there. My wife, kids and I love Waffle House. When we visit Lancaster, every trip must begin with breakfast at the local Waffle House on rt. 30.
Hey guys ,breakfast isn't that hard to make well. A good waffle is a good waffle..a good egg over easy, the same. And, at least this waffle house gives us good breakfasts for our buck,,,and VERY friendly service. Hashbrowns are great...and my wallet isn't damaged, so we can splurge on great Amish dinners. Let's be fair:Waffle House...because an Egg is an Egg!

Who done went and said it was bad? You'll find a lot of folks here who love waffle house.

They've been a staple of my life for as long as I can remember.

I think the Waffle House is good also. Just wish they would make the booths bigger. Sorry, I am a big guy and those booths are killers!

I'm certainly a Waffle House fan, but it is a chain and a franchise so it belongs in the proper section of this board.

bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with a double order of uncontaminated hashbrowns. I may change my mind about the naked hashbrowns if you could throw bacon into them. Big ups to Oceannaire.

They'll put bacon in. They already do ham, and they'll even do sausage.

Problem with WH is everything seems to be cooked swimming in the same oily substance. Hash browns, eggs, etc all tastes the same - like oily substance. We do stop by a few times/ yr, however, to have their country ham & eggs.

I'm a big fan of "oily substance." It works on movie theater popcorn, I often find it on pizza. If it's associated with so many good things, how can it be wrong.

I knew about the ham and sausage. Not the flavor I am going for. I'll stick with plain but for oily substance.

My very favorite breakfast place is the Waffle House. I have never had another meal there besides breakfast. Breakfast was always very very good.

The Waffel House needs to take credit cards. I don't care how cheap the place is. It is a national chain, and many of them are located off interstates. Credit/debit cards are not some strange concept anymore.

I don't have a problem when a mom and pop bbq stand in the mountains doesn't accept credit cards, but if McDonalds can afford the service charge on their dollar menu and value meals, I have to think Waffle House can adjust to the modern economy.

Most Waffle House restaurants do take credit cards, and most also have ATMs.

I have not been to a waffle house in about three years, so maybe they do now. They must have listened to my ranting and complaining.

The last three Waffle Houses that we went to (in 3 different states) take credit cards now.

Waffle House is a great breakfast stop for our family. The four year old (until just a few months ago) called it the Wapple House and delights in going there. Every time we would pass on on the highway and not stop she would shout out "Hey..........that's no fair". She also delights in watching them cook, It is a good and happy place to go for breakfast. As well as the cheery "Good Mornings" from the staff and the good food, one does not have to wade through oceans of gift shop junk in order to enjoy a meal.

They're like Truck Stops, compared to Denny's or IHOP's Homestyle Dining Rooms.

Also, there was a claim not too long ago about issues with the wait staff (racial and service).

However, people say they like them best for the food.

I'm a big Waffle house fan. I love the omelet. The way they mix it in the milk shake mixer makes it giant and fluffy. I like to have it with cheese and bacon.

All the ones I have been to lately (South Carolina and North Carolina) are taking credit cards.

For a chain, in my opinoin the Waffle House is the best. It is consistently mediocre and then on the plus side of that. The staff seems to be consistently very good. The taste is always the same. I truly enjoy their fresh cooked foods. Nothing is ever premade.

I could do their breakfast anytime of the day. I have never had any other meal there besides breakfast.

I know I am greatly in the minority here, but I am not a fan of Waffle House. But to be fair, I have only ever had one meal there. Is was near Duncan, SC and a buddy and I had breakfast before a Clemson football game. Our breakfasts were so greasy that we both had the runs the rest of the day. Not a fun experience! I have never gone back.

With so many people on these boards being Waffle House fans, maybe I should give them another try.

That is very important in my world. Still waiting for a Waffle House in Calif. Not holding my breath....

Is was near Duncan, SC and a buddy and I had breakfast before a Clemson football game. Our breakfasts were so greasy that we both had the runs the rest of the day. Not a fun experience! I have never gone back.

With so many people on these boards being Waffle House fans, maybe I should give them another try.

no no, you're not alone. I had several bad experiences at Waffle Houses in central NC. I often called them Awful Houses (both because the experience was poor and also because some of the places I went, the "W" wasn't lit)

I promised MH that I'd try a newer one in VA, but as of yet, I have not had the opportunity to give them a (possibly last) visit.

But, I have to agree, that in my experience everything was oily and lacked any disctinctive flavor. Not to mention the fact the the places were generally not very clean, especially the restroom. I had better breakfast experiences at Cracker Barrel.

Nevertheless, a promise is a promise and many of our fellow roadfoodies continue to give it proprs. So, I will try it again, once I'm actually near one for breakfast.

I indicated that Waffle House was the best chain in My Opinon that I have experienced.

I still feel that way. I know of no other chain that I personally enjoy as much.

Waffle House is mediocre but as chains go, it is the best.

                                                      No issue.

Waffle House is predominantly a "Southern" restaurant. Yes, you MAY find one the more northern regions, but usually, they are called "Steak and Waffle" or similar.

As I happen to live within 65 miles of a "Steak and Waffle", I would easily pass it up, and go on down another 100 miles to a "Waffle House".

The "Waffle House" has that Southern Flavor, that is missed in the Steak and Waffle.

Any time we drive to Florida, a few stops at a Waffle House, is mandated. My Kids Love the place. We really enjoy the hashbrowns, especially with added onions....

Their Sandwiches are great, their breakfasts too. Gotta love some Grits!!

The wife even loves their Coffee, Personally, I would like to see them Ditch the Coke, and serve Pepsi-Cola. I don't do coca-cola...bleh...

their tables do need a bit of an upgrade to be bigger.

Big Thumbs Up tho for Waffle House, it wont break the bank, and if you're not a fan of southern cooking and hospitality, you must be a Yankee!!! lol
